We present a process to automatically generate three-dimensional mesh representations of the complex, arborized cell membrane surface of cortical neurons (the principal information processing cells of the brain) from nonuniform morphological measurements. Starting from manually sampled morphological points (3D points and diameters) from neurons in a brain slice preparation, we construct a polygonal mesh representation that realistically represents the continuous membrane surface, closely matching the original experimental data. A mapping between the original morphological points and the newly generated mesh enables simulations of electrophysiolgical activity to be visualized on this new membrane representation. We compare the new mesh representation with the state of the art and present a series of use cases and applications of this technique to visualize simulations of single neurons and networks of multiple neurons.  相似文献

This paper describes a spherical near-field facility set up at the Centre d'Etudes de Gramat (CEG) to perform low-power microwave coupling assessments. Specifically, this facility has been designed to determine the coupling cross section of a complex object. However, it can also be used for the characterization of any radiating system in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) or high-power microwave (HPM) environments. The near-field approach is shown to be complementary and to offer increased flexibility when compared to other more conventional measurement techniques. More particularly, the use of a probe array in the upper part of the frequency band significantly speeds up the near-field measurement process. Consequently, broadband and multiparameter acquisitions can be performed within acceptable duration. The examples given in this paper provide a broad illustration of the capabilities of near-field techniques for EMC and HPM applications  相似文献

Fatigue tests were performed on a spheroidal graphite cast iron in four point plane bending under constant stress amplitude and block loading conditions. The microstructure of this material has a ll's eyes' appearance, i.e. the spheroids of graphite are surrounded by ferrite and these nodules and ferrite zones are included in a pearlitic matrix. Scanning electronic microscope observations were carried out at different fractions of life for constant stress amplitude loadings above and below the conventional endurance limit. Non-propagating micro-cracks were observed at a stress level equal to the conventional endurance limit. These observations showed that another limit can be defined below the conventional endurance one, i.e. one below which micro-cracks were not observed to initiate in the matrix. These cracks were found to arrest at the ferrite/pearlite interface when the material was tested below this new limit. This concept was used to rationalize fatigue results from tests with loading in blocks above and below the conventional endurance limit.  相似文献

We consider open-loop solutions of linear stochastic optimal control problems with constraints on control variables and probabilistic constraints on state variables. It is shown that this problem reduces to an equivalent linear deterministic optimal control problem with similar constraints and with a new criterion to minimize. Concavity or convexity is preserved. Hence, the machinery available for solving deterministic optimal control problems can be used to get an open-loop solution of the stochastic problem. The convex case is investigated and a bound on the difference between closed-loop and open-loop optimal costs is given.  相似文献

Four diets which differed in fatty acid composition were provided for five months each to a group of 24 healthy nun volunteers. The diets contained 54% carbohydrates, 16% proteins and 30% lipids. One-third of the lipid part remained unchanged during the whole study, and two-thirds were modified during each period. For this latter portion, one of the following dietary fats was used: sunflower oil, peanut oil, low erucic acid rapeseed (LEAR) oil or milk fats. This procedure allowed an evaluation of the effects of various amounts of dietary linoleic acid (C18∶2ω6) and alpha-linolenic acid (C18∶3ω3) on the serum level of their metabolites. A diet providing a large amount of linoleic acid (14% of the total caloric intake) resulted in low levels of dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (C20∶3ω6) and arachidonic acid (C20∶4ω6) in serum phospholipids and cholesteryl esters. A diet providing a small amount of linoleic acid (0.6% to 1.3% of the total caloric intake) induced high levels of ω6 fatty acid derivatives. Intermediate serum levels of C20∶3ω6 and C20∶4ω6 were found with a linoleic acid supply of about 6.5% of the total caloric intake. Serum levels of ω6 metabolites were not different after two diets providing a similar supply of C18∶2ω6 (4.5% to 6.5% of the total caloric intake), although in one of them the supply of C18∶3ω3 was higher (1.5% for LEAR oil versus 0.13% for peanut oil). Under our experimental conditions (healthy human adults fed on a normo-caloric diet with 30% lipids), we tried to determine PUFA (linoleic and linolenic acid) allowances which should be recommended for adults. The aim of the study was to obtain a hypocholesterolemic or normocholesterolemic effect while keeping normal 20∶3ω6 and 20∶4ω6 serum levels which would evidence a normal linoleic acid metabolism. The amounts recommended are: linoleic acid 5 to 6% of the total calories; alpha-linolenic acid 0.5 to 1% of the total calories.  相似文献

In this paper, we model crack discontinuities in two‐dimensional linear elastic continua using the extended finite element method without the need to partition an enriched element into a collection of triangles or quadrilaterals. For crack modeling in the extended finite element, the standard finite element approximation is enriched with a discontinuous function and the near‐tip crack functions. Each element that is fully cut by the crack is decomposed into two simple (convex or nonconvex) polygons, whereas the element that contains the crack tip is treated as a nonconvex polygon. On using Euler's homogeneous function theorem and Stokes's theorem to numerically integrate homogeneous functions on convex and nonconvex polygons, the exact contributions to the stiffness matrix from discontinuous enriched basis functions are computed. For contributions to the stiffness matrix from weakly singular integrals (because of enrichment with asymptotic crack‐tip functions), we only require a one‐dimensional quadrature rule along the edges of a polygon. Hence, neither element‐partitioning on either side of the crack discontinuity nor use of any cubature rule within an enriched element are needed. Structured finite element meshes consisting of rectangular elements, as well as unstructured triangular meshes, are used.
