A mechanism of formation of copper nanoparticles is proposed for alkaline etching of a sputtering-deposited Al-30 at.%Cu alloy, simulating the equilibrium θ phase of 2000 series aluminium alloys. Their formation involves enrichment of copper in the alloy beneath a thin alumina film, clustering of copper atoms, and occlusion of the clusters, due to growth of alumina around the clusters, to form nanoparticles. The proposed mechanism is supported by medium energy ion scattering, Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy of the alloy following immersion in the sodium hydroxide solution, which disclose the enrichment of copper and the generation of the nanoparticles in the etching product of hydrated alumina. The generation of the nanoparticles is dependent upon the enrichment of copper in the alloy in a layer of a few nanometres thickness, with no requirement for bulk de-alloying of the alloy.  相似文献

The hafnium and silicon precursors, Hf(NMe2)4 and ButMe2SiOH, have been investigated for the MOCVD of high-κ hafnium silicate, (HfO2)1–x –(SiO2) x films for gate dielectric applications. Control of the silica concentration in the hafnium silicate can be achieved by varying the relative precursor ratios up to a saturation level of 35–40% SiO2. The thermal stability of the resulting hafnium silicate films in air has been investigated using medium energy ion scattering. Internal oxidation of the underlying silicon substrate is discernable when the films are annealed in dry air for 15 min over the temperature range 800–1000 °C.  相似文献

The ability to visualize cell motility occurring deep in the context of opaque tissues will allow many currently intractable issues in developmental biology and organogenesis to be addressed. In this study, we compare two-photon excitation with laser scanning confocal and conventional digital deconvolution fluorescence microscopy, using the same optical configuration, for their ability to resolve cell shape deep in Xenopus gastrula and neurula tissues. The two-photon microscope offers better depth penetration and less autofluorescence compared to confocal and conventional deconvolution imaging. Both two-photon excitation and confocal microscopy also provide improved rejection of "out-of-focus" noise and better lateral and axial resolution than conventional digital deconvolution microscopy. Deep Xenopus cells are best resolved by applying the digital deconvolution method on the two-photon images. We have also found that the two-photon has better depth penetration without any degradation in the image quality of interior sections compared to the other two techniques. Also, we have demonstrated that the quality of the image changes at different depths for various excitation powers.  相似文献

For quality verification, an X-ray inspection process is commonly being used for evaluating obscured and defective solder joints in surface-mount technologies, such as ball grid arrays and flip chips. Integrated circuits subjected to any form of radiation, i.e., ionizing or nonionizing, may incur some amount of damage depending on the absorbed dose. Though most X-ray inspections for high-quality imaging require ionizing dose amounts that are considered inconsequential for device failure or non-functionality, the degree of latent damage must be carefully considered. This paper discusses X-ray-induced vulnerabilities of high-density dynamic random access memory exposed to low ionizing radiation levels typical in X-ray inspection systems. We look at critical parameters and their sensitivity in relation to varying dose amounts of X-ray irradiation. In consideration of different methodologies of reducing radiation dose amounts and limiting device exposure, we propose a procedure for attenuating potentially harmful X-ray radiation levels while preserving quality images.  相似文献

Anodizing of InSb at 5 mA cm−2 in sodium tungstate electrolyte is shown to produce barrier-type amorphous oxide at relatively low voltages, to about 40 V, and porous-type amorphous oxide at increased voltages. The barrier-type amorphous oxide, consisting of units of In2O3 and Sb2O3, distributed relatively uniformly throughout the film, develops at a formation ratio of 2.2 ± 0.2 nm V−1. The outer 15–20% of the film also contains tungsten species. The relatively high efficiency of barrier film growth reduces significantly with transition to porous oxide, which is associated additionally with generation of oxygen at the film surface. The final oxide, at 65 V, comprises pores, of typical diameter 80 nm, orientated approximately normal to the substrate and extending from a barrier region to the film surface.  相似文献

Airborne microorganisms in hospitals have been associated with several hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), and various measures of indoor air quality (IAQ) parameters such as temperature, relative humidity, carbon dioxide (CO2), particle mass concentration, and particle size have been linked to pathogen survival or mitigation of pathogen spread. To investigate whether there are quantitative relationships between the concentration of airborne microorganisms and the IAQ in the hospital environment. Web of Science, Scopus and PubMed databases were searched for studies reporting airborne microbial levels and any IAQ parameter(s) in hospital environments, from database inception to October 2020. Pooled effect estimates were determined via random-effects models. Seventeen of 654 studies were eligible for the meta-analysis. The concentration of airborne microbial measured as aerobic colony count (ACC) was significantly correlated with temperature (r = 0.25 [95% CI = 0.06–0.42], p = 0.01), CO2 concentration (r = 0.53 [95% CI = 0.40–0.64], p ˂ 0.001), particle mass concentration (≤5 µg/m3; r = 0.40 [95% CI = 0.04–0.66], p = 0.03), and particle size (≤5 and ˃5 µm), (r = 0.51 [95% CI = 0.12–0.77], p = 0.01 and r = 0.55 [95% CI = 0.20–0.78], p = 0.003), respectively, while not being significantly correlated with relative humidity or particulate matter of size >5 µm. Conversely, airborne total fungi (TF) were not significantly correlated with temperature, relative humidity, or CO2 level. However, there was a significant weak correlation between ACC and TF (r = 0.31 [95% CI = 0.07–0.52], p = 0.013). Although significant correlations exist between ACC and IAQ parameters, the relationship is not definitive; the IAQ parameters may affect the microorganisms but are not responsible for the presence of airborne microorganisms. Environmental parameters could be related to the generating source, survival, dispersion, and deposition rate of microorganisms. Future studies should record IAQ parameters and factors such as healthcare worker presence and the activities carried out such as cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfection protocols. Foot traffic would influence both the generation of microorganisms and their deposition rate onto surfaces in the hospital environment. These data would inform models to improve the understanding of the likely concentration of airborne microorganisms and provide an alternative approach for real-time monitoring of the healthcare environment.  相似文献

Few active fish spawning grounds have been found in channels connecting the Great Lakes. Here, we describe one near Belle Isle in the Detroit River, part of the channel connecting lakes Huron and Erie. There, in 2005, we collected 1,573 fish eggs, cultured them, and identified the hatched larvae as walleye (Sander vitreus) and white sucker (Catostomus commersoni). Walleye spawning peaked during the week of April 12–19; white sucker spawning peaked on May 10. Average areal rate of egg deposition by walleye and white sucker at this spawning ground in 2005 was 346 and 25 eggs/m2, respectively. Our environmental measurements showed that bottom substrates on this spawning ground were largely sand, not optimal for fish reproduction. We hypothesize that reproduction of these fish at this spawning ground could be enhanced by adding rock and gravel substrates for protection of deposited fish eggs and suggest that reproduction by walleye in the Detroit River may add resilience to production of walleye in western Lake Erie.  相似文献

With increasing human age (20-80 years), the electroencephalogram (EEG) dose requirement for the intravenous anesthetic thiopental decreases approximately 10% per decade of life. The goal of this study was to compare the dose required to attain isoelectric EEG in young (4-5 month) vs. aged (24-25-month) Fischer 344 rats. One second isoelectricity was found to be an endpoint where minimal cardiorespiratory depression occurred. The effects of age, infusion rate, and repeated administration were examined in nine young and nine old rodents. Thiopental dose requirement increased with increasing infusion rates. Repeated administration at two-day intervals did not demonstrate tolerance to thiopental. No difference in thiopental dose requirement was detected in the young vs. elderly rats. In a separate group of five young and five old rats, thiopental plasma, brain, heart, and CSF concentrations were measured when five seconds of EEG isoelectricity was achieved: no consistent differences were noted. The rat may not be an appropriate model to investigate acute age-related anesthetic effects in humans, because cardiovascular changes with age are dissimilar between species.  相似文献
