Three grain-shape parameters, f 1, f 2, and f 3, are defined to clarify the morphological effect of grains on the high-temperature creep resistance under the condition that no grain boundary cavitation occurs. The parameter f 1 is characteristic of complicated grain shapes, suggesting that it can be a measure of the interlocking grain structure. The parameter f 2 is an important parameter when torsional stresses are imposed on coiled wires, and f 3 is characteristic of the short-range roughness of grain boundaries only when f 1 is not greatly changed. The minimum creep rate decreases as the grain aspect ratio, R, increases for R <30, and the creep rate increases as R increases for R >30. The parameter f 1, as well as Raj and Ashby’s model, gives a satisfactory explanation for the former behavior. On the other hand, it is proven that their model must be modified using f 3 to explain the latter behavior because of the highly elongated grain configuration that is associated with R >30.  相似文献

A micro-space cell culture system was recently developed in which cells such as hepatocytes can be cultured and formed into a multicellular three-dimensional (3D) architecture. In this study, we assessed the performance of HepG2 cells cultured in this micro-space cell culture system in a drug toxicity test, and evaluated the effects of micro-space culture on their hepatocyte-specific functions. The micro-space cell culture facilitated the formation of 3D HepG2 cell architecture. HepG2 cells cultured in a micro-space culture plate exhibited increased albumin secretion and enhanced mRNA expression levels of cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzyme compared to those cultured in a monolayer culture. When the cells were exposed to acetaminophen, a hepatotoxic drug, the damage to the HepG2 cells grown in micro-space culture was greater than the damage to the HepG2 cells grown in monolayer culture. In addition, human primary hepatocytes grown in micro-space culture also exhibited increased albumin secretion, enhanced CYP mRNA expression levels and increased sensitivity to acetaminophen compared to those grown in monolayer culture. These results suggest that this micro-space culture method enhances the hepatocyte-specific functions of hepatocytes, including drug-metabolizing enzyme activities, making hepatocytes grown in the micro-space culture system a useful tool for evaluating drug toxicity in vitro.  相似文献

The 2005 Fukuoka-ken Seiho-oki earthquake caused damage to structures due to liquefaction, slope failure and strong shaking in Fukuoka City. One of the authors had conducted microzonation for liquefaction, slope failure and strong shaking about 17 years before the earthquake. After the earthquake, the authors compared the zoning map with the actual damage. The results showed that liquefied sites coincided fairly well with predicted zones in the reclaimed lands. However, they were slightly different in a big sand spit named Uminonakamichi. Failure occurred at several slopes inside the predicted areas, while damage to buildings occurred due to strong shaking along the Kego Fault. The damaged area was slightly different from the predicted area. Furthermore, a liquefaction analysis was conducted and the results of this analysis were compared with the results of microzonation in 1988. In this paper, the authors discuss the validity of microzonation based on this comparison.  相似文献

This study analyzes the effect of different screw rotating speeds on the clay dispersion and mechanical properties of nanocomposites prepared by melt compounding polylactic acid (PLA) with an organoclay in a co‐rotating twin screw extruder. Polyamide 12 (PA12) was used as an additive. Two different screw rotating speeds, 65 rpm and 150 rpm, were used in this study. According to the tensile strength data, the Young's modulus of the PLA/clay nanocomposites showed improvement at a screw rotating speed of 150 rpm. The Young's modulus improved with the addition of the organoclay to PLA matrix, but decreased when PA12 was added to the PLA matrix. The tensile strengths and elongations become small by adding organoclay to PLA matrix. The tensile strengths of the PLA/organoclay nanocomposites increased for the higher screw rotating speed (150 rpm). The d‐spacing of PLA/PA12/Clay nanocomposites was independent of the addition of PA12. The size of the clay aggregates in the PLA/PA12/Clay nanocomposites is smaller than that of PLA/Clay. Furthermore, the thermal stability of the PLA/Clay nanocomposite increases with addition of PA12, while on the whole, it had little influence on the tensile properties. POLYM. We have fabricated InGaP/GaAs double heterojunction bipolar transistors with a sidewall base contact structure. These transistors operate in both emitter-up and emitter-down modes. Symmetric characteristics of the cutoff frequency fT=68 GHz and the maximum oscillation frequency fmax=31 GHz were obtained at a base-collector bias VBC of 0 V. For emitter-down operation, f T was found to reach a maximum of 78 GHz when the base-collector junction was forward biased at 0.9 V. The product of f T for emitter-down operation and fT for emitter-up operation was 5.3×103 GHz2, which is about six times that of previously reported SiGe heterojunction bipolar transistors  相似文献

This study aimed to optimize the ratio of dioctyl 4‐cyclohexene‐1,2‐dicarboxylate (DOTH) and di‐isononyl‐cyclohexane‐1,2‐dicarboxylate (DINCH®) for use as plasticizers in poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) sheets. We also evaluated the biological safety of DOTH for its potential to be part of a safe PVC‐based blood container. The suppression of hemolysis in mannitol‐adenine‐phosphate / red cell concentrates (MAP/RCC) with DOTH/(DINCH®‐PVC) sheets and the elution of plasticizers from the sheets increased with higher DOTH compositions. The properties of the PVC sheet containing DOTH and DINCH® in the ratio of 25:33 parts against PVC 100 parts as a weight were almost identical to the PVC sheet made of di(2‐ethylhexyl) phthalate. From a subchronic toxicity test, DOTH did not show any adverse effects on all organs, including the testes, epididymis, liver, and kidneys. The no‐observed‐adverse‐effect level was 300 mg/kg body weight/day in a rat. These results suggest that DOTH/DINCH® (25:33) is a promising candidate for the replacement of di(2‐ethylhexyl) phthalate in blood containers. J. VINYL ADDIT. In previous studies, we reported the linear and nonlinear rheological properties of three‐component composites consisting of acrylic polymer (AP), epoxy resin (EP), and various SiO2 contents (AP/EP/SiO2) in the molten state. In this study, the dynamic mechanical properties of AP/EP/SiO2 composites with different particle sizes (0.5 and 8 μm) were investigated in the glass‐transition region. The EP consisted of three kinds of EP components. The α relaxation due to the glass transition shifted to a higher temperature with an increase in the volume fraction (?) for the AP/EP/SiO2 composites having a particle size of 0.5 μm, but the α relaxation scarcely shifted for the composite having a particle size of 8 μm as a general result. This result suggested that the SiO2 nanoparticles that were 0.5 μm in size adsorbed a lot of the low‐glass‐transition‐temperature (Tg) component because of their large surface area. The AP/SiO2 composites did not exhibit a shift in Tg; this indicated that the composite did not adsorb any component. The modulus in the glassy state (Eg) exhibited a very weak &phis; dependence for the AP/EP/SiO2 composites having particle sizes of 0.5 and 8 μm, although Eg of the AP/SiO2 composites increased with &phis;. The AP/EP/SiO2 composites exhibited a peculiar dynamic mechanical behavior, although the AP/SiO2 composites showed the behavior of general two‐component composites. Scanning electron microscopic observations indicated that some components in the EP were adsorbed on the surface of the SiO2 particles. We concluded that the peculiar behavior of the AP/EP/SiO2 composites was due to the selective adsorption of the EP component. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) was studied in a colony of 85 chimpanzees using assays for anti-HCV and HCV-RNA. Thirteen of the 85 sera were positive for anti-HCV, and 12 of the 13 were also positive for HCV-RNA. All of the anti-HCV positive sera except one were obtained from chimpanzees which had been inoculated with non-A, non-B hepatitis virus. On the other hand, only one of 63 sera of chimpanzees without history of experimental infection of the virus was positive for anti-HCV. Transmission to this chimpanzee was thought to be a needle contaminated with HCV. All 39 samples of chimpanzees born in the center were negative for both anti-HCV and HCV-RNA. Sixteen of their mothers had undergone experimental infection, and 6 of them were positive for both anti-HCV and HCV-RNA. These results suggest that nonpercutaneous transmission, including sexual and mother-to-infant transmissions, is not an important mode of transmission. If these findings apply to humans, definition of inapparent sources of the infection is needed.  相似文献

We discuss the viscoelastic flow of the matrix fluid in an Extensional Flow Mixer (EFM) obtained by a numerical simulation. The effect of the fluid viscoelasticity on the flow state in an EFM was considered by the comparison of the flow states of the purely viscous fluid and the viscoelastic fluid. The mixing performance of the EFM is also considered. The Phan‐Thien Tanner model was used as the constitutive equation of the viscoelastic fluid and the Carreau model was used as that of the purely viscous fluid. Results obtained are as follows: (1) Stagnation flows occur in the converging‐diverging plates (c‐d plates) in the case of viscoelastic fluid. The size of stagnation flow region becomes large when the fluid has a strain‐thickening elongational viscosity. (2) The absolute value of the extensional strain and the pressure drop in the c‐d region increase with fluid elasticity. Meanwhile, the residence time in the c‐d region decreases with that. (3) There is no stagnation region in the c‐d plates for a purely viscous fluid. The stagnation flow has an effect on the estimation value of EFM's performance. The prediction by the purely viscous fluid is not useful for the flow in an EFM because of extremely low accuracy.  相似文献

This paper presents an application of the idea called concept for realizing more appropriate representation of human preferences. In the previous study, we proposed the new information recommendation method. Concretely, items for recommendation were selected using the idea of concept, which are impressions of users on items inferred using tagging data of a folksonomy. In the method, characteristics of items were represented by concepts, and it is expected that preferences of users can be represented by concepts as well. However, accuracy of concepts is influential in this approach. In this study, we investigated the validity of the obtained concepts using the previous proposed method, and proposed the improved derivation method of concepts. The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified trough comparison experiments with the previous method.  相似文献
