The medial division of the medial geniculate body (MGm) projects to the lateral amygdala and the upper layer of the auditory cortex and develops physiological plasticity rapidly during classical conditioning. The effects of learning on frequency receptive fields (RFs) in the MGm of the guinea pig have been determined. Classical conditioning (tone–footshock), as indexed by rapid development of conditioned bradycardia, produced conditioned stimulus (CS)–frequency specific RF plasticity: increased response at the CS frequency with decreased responses at other frequencies, both immediately and after a 1-hr retention period. Sensitization training produced only general changes in RFs. These findings are considered with reference to both the elicitation of amygdala-mediated, fear-conditioned responses and the mechanism of retrieval of information stored in the auditory cortex during acquisition. Previous NMR microimaging studies at 360 MHz have demonstrated a clear differentiation between the nucleus and cytoplasm in isolated single neurons. In particular, theT 2 of the cell nucleus is 2.5 times larger than that of the cytoplasm. In order to determine the magnitude of possibleT 2 * influences on these observations, images of single cells have been obtained at 500 MHz using spin-echo and line-narrowing sequences. Comparison of the images acquired by the two sequences, and of the spin-echo images at 360 and 500 MHz, imply that anyT 2 * contributions are relatively small. Consequently, the measuredT 2 differences in spin-echo imaging represent a true difference in theT 2 relaxation in the two cellular compartments.  相似文献

Conceptually, there should be a brief interval in time when newly secreted proteins "pile up" at secretory sites just outside the membrane of ameloblasts. Indeed, previous cytochemical studies have suggested that glycosylated and/or sulfated glycoproteins accumulate at enamel growth sites. Colloidal gold lectin cytochemistry and immunocytochemistry with antibodies to enamel proteins and phosphoserine, combined with cycloheximide and brefeldin A to inhibit protein synthesis and secretion, were applied to characterize the distribution of newly formed proteins at enamel interrod and rod growth sites. Although enamel growth sites show a "rarefied" appearance, the results indicate that one or more subclasses of enamel proteins accumulate near the cell surface at sites where elongation of enamel crystallites contributes to thickening of the enamel layer. These proteins are glycosylated and/or phosphorylated and, at least in the case of the glycosylated ones, are rapidly processed after they are released extracellularly. In contrast, immunolabeling for amelogenins is generally weaker near the cell surface and more intense at a short distance away from the site where crystallites elongate. The data suggest that the enamel proteins accumulating at growth sites likely belong to the non-amelogenin category and play a transient role in promoting the lengthening of crystallites. It is concluded that areas near the ameloblast membrane where certain enamel proteins accumulate in fact constitute the equivalent of a mineralization front.  相似文献

The present study examined whether traditional gender role expectations (Eagly, 1987) influence behaviors in non-traditional contexts such as online virtual environments. Participants were 352 Second Life users who reported their activities and experiences in Second Life. Results indicated that men and women differed in the types of activities they engaged in a manner predicted by social role theory. Specifically, as compared to women, men were more likely to report building things (e.g. objects), to own and work on their own virtual property, and were less likely to change their avatar’s appearance. Women, as compared to men, were more likely to meet people, shop, regularly change their avatar’s appearance, and buy clothes/objects for their avatar. The present study adds to our understanding of how traditional gender role expectations may carry over to online virtual worlds and influence online behavior.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a novel algorithm for multi-task learning with boosted decision trees. We learn several different learning tasks with a joint model, explicitly addressing their commonalities through shared parameters and their differences with task-specific ones. This enables implicit data sharing and regularization. Our algorithm is derived using the relationship between ? 1-regularization and boosting. We evaluate our learning method on web-search ranking data sets from several countries. Here, multi-task learning is particularly helpful as data sets from different countries vary largely in size because of the cost of editorial judgments. Further, the proposed method obtains state-of-the-art results on a publicly available multi-task dataset. Our experiments validate that learning various tasks jointly can lead to significant improvements in performance with surprising reliability.  相似文献
