A high-performance tensile-strained InGaAs multi-quantum-well semiconductor optical amplifier (MQW-SOA) gate developed for wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) applications is reported. The -0.47% InGaAs-strained SOA gate has a very low polarization dependence of 0.3 dB over a driving current between 30 and 60 mA and a wide-input signal wavelength range from 1530 to 1580 nm. The fabrication tolerance of the mesa stripe width is very large, ranging from 1.0 to 1.75 μm. The MQW-SOA gate has an extinction ratio of more than 40 dB. The fiber-to-fiber lossless operation current is less than 50 mA over the fiber-amplifier gain band. The gating speed is less than 1 ns 相似文献

Ganglioside GT1b and, to a lesser extent, GD3, enhanced phosphorylation of a 36 kDa protein (the substrate of protein kinase
C) in the particulate fraction from bovine mammary gland. Sialic acids, asialogangliosides, and GM3 were without effect, and
GD1a conversely inhibited phosphorylation of the 36 kDa protein. The enhanced phosphorylation by GT1b required the simultaneous
presence of phosphatidylserine (PS) and Ca2+. The 36 kDa protein reacted with anti-annexin I in Western blot analysis. Addition of purified annexin I to the reaction
mixture containing the particulate fraction increased the extent of phosphorylated 36 kDa protein, and the phosphorylation
was further enhanced by GT1b. The enhanced phosphorylation of annexin I by GT1b was also dependent on PS and Ca2+. When annexin I was phosphorylated by purified protein kinase C, GT1b inhibited the annexin I phosphorylation. Addition of
epidermal growth factor or insulin to the particulate fraction had little effect on the enhancement. These results suggest
that an enzyme or enzymes other than protein kinase C, epidermal growth factor receptor kinase, or insulin receptor kinase

To objectively evaluate the parenchymal echo pattern of cirrhotic liver and chronic hepatitis, the authors applied an image analyzing system (IAS) using a neural network. Autopsy specimens in a water tank (n=13) were used to examine the relationship between the diameter of the regenerative nodule and the coarse score (CS) calculated by IAS. An elastic half plane with an oblique edge crack is considered in this paper. A pair of concentrated forces or point dislocations is assumed to act at an arbitrary point in the half plane. The half plane with an edge crack is first mapped into a unit circle by a rational mapping function so that the following analysis can be carried out on the mapped plane analytically. Then the complex stress functions are derived by separating the whole problem into two parts; one is the principal part corresponding to the infinite plane acted on by concentrated forces or dislocations, the other is the holomorphic part, which can be determined by making use of the property of regularity of complex stress functions. The stress intensity factors of the crack can be calculated with different inclined angles of the crack, and the displacement and stress components at an arbitrary position in the half plane can be expressed explicitly. 相似文献

The molecular basis for a hereditary type I protein S (PS) deficiency was investigated. DNA sequence analysis in the proband showed a novel missense mutation substituting Cys (TGT) for Arg474 (CGT) that is a highly conserved amino acid residue among the related proteins. This missense mutation cosegregated with the type I PS deficiency in this family. Transient expression studies showed that the secretion of the recombinant Cys-mutant PS was markedly decreased compared with that of the recombinant wild-type PS, reproducing the observed phenotype of type I deficiency. Stable expression and pulse-chase experiments demonstrated an intracellular degradation and an impaired secretion of the recombinant Cys-mutant PS. Furthermore, the substitution of Arg474 by Ala or Glu, but not by Lys, markedly reduced the secretion of the recombinant PS mutants in transient expression studies, suggesting that a positively charged basic amino acid might be needed at residue 474 and might play a key role in the protein structure and conformation of the sex hormone binding globulin-homology domain of the PS molecule. We postulate that the loss of the highly conserved Arg474 might be responsible for the type I PS deficiency inherited in this family. 相似文献

Platelet-activating factor (PAF) is a potent inflammatory mediator which is released by various inflammatory cells and produced
by certain tissues, including the kidney. PAF has been shown to increase glomerular permeability to protein and to decrease
glomerular filtration rate (GFR) by contracting mesangium. On the basis of these observations, it has been suspected that
PAF may play a role as mediator of glomerular damage in glomerular nephritis. To examine this possibility, we studied the
effects of a specific PAF antagonist, R-75,317, on the development of an experimental model of anti-glomerular basement membrane
(anti-GBM) glomerulonephritis. Glomerulonephritis was initiated by injecting rabbit anti-rat GBM serum into rats. Proteinuria
gradually developed after serum injection, plateaued at week 2, and remained at the high level of week 2 throughout the experimental
period (6 wk). Chronic treatment with R-75,317 (10 mg/kg/day i.p.) tended to delay the onset of proteinuria and significantly
accelerated the recovery phase. Creatinine clearance (Ccr) fell to 40% at week 3. R-75,317 treatment completely prevented
this decline of Ccr. Histological changes in this model (glomerular hypertrophy, proliferation of mesangial matrix and interstitial
fibrosis) were also ameliorated by the R-75,317 treatment. The results suggest that PAF may play a role in the development
of glomerulonephritis and that PAF antagonists could be used in the treatment of human renal disease.

The objectives of this study were 1) to evaluate interleukin-8 concentrations in cervical secretions in predicting preterm delivery, microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity and histologic chorioamnionitis in patients with preterm labor and intact membranes and 2) to compare the diagnostic value of interleukin-8 with fetal fibronectin determinations in predicting preterm delivery, microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity and histologic chorioamnionitis in patients with preterm labor and intact membranes. Interleukin-8 and fetal fibronectin were assayed in cervical secretions in 106 patients with singleton pregnancies and intact membranes admitted for preterm labor. Amniotic fluid obtained by amniocentesis was cultured and placentas (No = 43) analyzed for the presence of chorioamnionitis. The prevalence of pregnancies delivered preterm was 46.2% (49/106) and 15.09% (16/106) of amniotic fluid cultures were positive. Interleukin-8 levels in cervical secretions were significantly increased in patients who delivered preterm (p < or = 0.0001), in presence of positive amniotic fluid culture (p = 0.0016) and histological chorioamnionitis (p = 0.008) than in patients with negative findings. Receiver-operator characteristics curve analysis showed that an interleukin-8 value > 450 pg/ml is comparable to that of a fetal fibronectin value > 50 ng/ml in predicting preterm delivery (p = 0.247). Among patients who delivered preterm interleukin-8 concentrations > 860 pg/ml predicted a positive amniotic fluid culture with a sensitivity of 81.2% and a specificity 66.6%. Further, in patients who delivered preterm and had a negative amniotic fluid culture, IL-8 concentrations > 480 pg/ml predicted histological chorioamnionitis with a sensitivity 78.5% and specificity 61.5%. A positive fetal fibronectin > 50 ng/ml was not predictve of either a positive amniotic fluid culture or the presence of histological chorioamnionitis. In conclusion, increased concentrations of interleukin-8 and fetal fibronectin are associated with impending delivery and their diagnostic value seems comparable. However, interleukin-8 concentrations identify patients at risk of a positive amniotic fluid culture and the presence of histological chorioamnionitis. Measurement of interleukin-8 in cervical secretion is a non-invasive method to identify patients at risk for both preterm delivery and intrauterine infection. 相似文献

In this study, a series of synthetic oligonucleotide duplexes are tested as a substrate for esperamicin. The duplexes contain a typical binding sequence of esperamicin, 5'-GGA/TCC, but have different flexibilities in helix structure from each other. When cleavage activities of these oligonucleotides by esperamicin were estimated by using DNA sequencing method, a substantial increase of the cleavage at 3'-NAGG was observed with increasing the helix flexibility. Recognition of hand drawn shapes is beneficial in drawing packages and automated sketch entry in handheld computers. In this paper, we propose a new approach to on-line geometric shape recognition with incremental training function, which utilizes a heuristic function to reduce noise and a neural network for classification and on-line training. Instead of recognizing segments of a drawing and then performing syntactical analysis to match with a predefined shape, which is weak in terms of generalization and dealing with noise, we examine the shape as a whole. The main concept of the recognition method is derived from the fact that internal angles are very important in the perceived shape of outlines. Our application's aim is to recognize elliptic, rectangular, and triangular shapes in a way similar to human cognition of these shapes. Human beings recognize such basic shapes regardless of the variations in size, noise on the shape border, rotation and in the case of triangles, regardless of the type of the triangle. The key concept is that the neural network learns the relationships between the internal angles of a shape and its classification, therefore only a few training samples which represent the class of the shape are sufficient. Fast meremental training, which is performed on-line, is accomplished by the use of the Binary Synaptic Weights algorithm, a one pass, feedforward neural network training algorithm. Incremental training offers the advantage of adjusting the recognition capability of the system to the user's drawings. the results are very successful, such that the neural network correctly classified shapes that did not have any resemblance to the shapes in the initial training set. 相似文献

Stationary projectors mainly used in system applications have recently gained a wider application range, including general presentations in halls and large conference rooms and being used, for example, in digital signage and for monitoring purposes. Consequently, they are required to meet new market demands for durability, reliability, and flexibility in installation in addition to their conventional basic performance such as especially high brightness. To achieve especially high brightness, a new optical system with two lamps is proposed; the profile of the cover glass that prevents the glass from scattering is made aspherical, the profile of the beam‐combining mirror is improved with its position optimized, and the size of the incident plane of the integrator rod is made larger (1.1 times). These measures resulted in an optical system of an even higher efficiency with 7000 lm, which is the highest in its class (according to a June 2010 investigation). Also, the arrangement of two parallel lamps completely eliminated the effect of heat passing from one lamp to the other, which helped secure durability, reliability, and flexibility in installation. Furthermore, the combined use of the unique non‐telecentric optical system, adopted from the conventional single‐lamp model, helps maintain the class‐highest contrast ratio.1,2 相似文献
