The effect of tensile prestraining-induced residual stress on the fatigue life of notched steel parts was investigated. The study was performed on AISI 4140 steel. Rotating bending fatigue tests were carried out on semicircular notched specimens with different notch radii in the as-quenched and tempered conditions. Metallography of the specimens was performed by means of light optical microscopy. The finite-element method was used to evaluate the residual stress distribution near the notch region. Fatigue tests revealed fatigue life improvement for notched specimens, which changes depending on the notch radii and applied stress. Scanning electron microscopy was used to examine the fracture surfaces of the specimens.  相似文献

In particulate flow devices particles acquire electric charge through triboelectric charging, and resulting electrostatic forces can alter hydrodynamics. To capture this effect, the electrostatic force acting on individual particles in the device should be computed accurately. Electrostatic force is calculated using a hybrid approach consisting of: (1) long‐range contributions from an Eulerian electric field solved using the Poisson equation (2) short‐range contributions calculated using a truncated pairwise sum and (3) a correction to avoid double counting. Euler‐Lagrange simulation of flows incorporating this hybrid approach reveals that bed height oscillations in small fluidized beds of particles with monopolar charge decreases with increasing charge level, which is related to lateral segregation of particles. A ring‐like layer of particles, reported in experimental studies, forms at modestly high charge levels. Beds with equal amounts of positively and negatively charged particles are fluidized in a manner similar to uncharged particles. © 2016 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 62: 2282–2295, 2016  相似文献

Cobalt-doped willemite is a promising blue ceramic pigment, but some important aspects concerning crystal structure, optical properties and technological behaviour are still undisclosed. In order to get new insight on these features, willemite pigments (Zn2?xCoxSiO4, 0 < x < 0.3) were synthesized by the ceramic route and characterized from the structural (XRPD with Rietveld refinement), optical (DRS and colorimetry), microstructural (SEM, STEM, TEM, EDX, EELS) and technological (simulation of the ceramic process) viewpoints. The incorporation of cobalt in the willemite lattice, taking preferentially place in the Zn1 tetrahedral site, induces an increase of unit-cell parameters, metal–oxygen distances, and inter-tetrahedral tilting. It causes shifting and enhanced splitting of spin-allowed bands of Co2+ in tetrahedral coordination, implying slight changes of crystal field strength Dq and Racah B parameter, but increasing spin-orbit coupling parameter λ. Willemite pigments impart deep blue hue to ceramic glazes and glassy coatings with a colouring performance better than commercial Co-bearing colorants in the 800–1200 °C range. Detailed SEM-TEM investigation and microanalysis proved that no diffusion phenomena occur at the pigment–glassy coating interface and that willemite pigments are chemically inert during firing at 1050 °C.  相似文献

Black iron-chromium (Fe-Cr) bearing oxide pigments are generally utilised as effective colourants in a wide variety of applications. However, in the case of their use within ZnO-containing glazes, they yield an undesirable brown colour instead of expected black colour. In order to understand the colour change in this system, we report the use of focused ion beam (FIB) sample preparation technique followed by the use of analytical transmission electron microscopy (TEM) characterisation techniques. According to the results, the formation of a reaction layer between the pigment and glaze was identified with an average composition of Zn0.48Fe0.79Cr1.32O4. Additionally, the valance of Fe was determined as 3+ in the pigment grain, whereas 2+ in the reaction layer and the glaze, respectively. Therefore, it was concluded that the colour change is occurring as result of the valence variation of Fe, the formation of Zn0.48Fe0.79Cr1.32O4 compound and the outward diffusion of Fe into the glaze.  相似文献

Polydimethyl siloxane (PDMS)–glass microchip has a very strong surface effect on polymerase chain reaction (PCR), leading to a very poor PCR yield. In the work reported here, practical dynamic passivation of surfaces of PDMS–glass microchip using polyethylene glycol (PEG) or polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was achieved using a conventional thermocycler. The passivation procedure was cost‐effective and easy to conduct. The effects of polymer molecular weight and polymer concentration on tube PCR efficiency were investigated primarily to prescreen out suitable polymers and polymer concentrations in the PCR mixture. The result from tube PCR indicated that both PEG and PVP could affect the performance of Taq polymerase. A final concentration of 0.025% (w/v) or 0.4% (w/v) polymer in the PCR mixture can enhance the tube PCR, while 1% (w/v) polymer was found to inhibit the reaction. PEG was more effective in tube PCR, although PVP performed better in chip PCR. Instead of employing the polymer directly in the PCR mixture, i.e. the conventional in situ passivation approach, another approach of dynamic passivation by pre‐injecting polymers into the microchip achieved better performance. The efficiency of pre‐passivation was found to follow the order: PVP10000>PVP55000, PEG8000> PEG10000>PEG400. After pre‐passivation with PVP10000, PVP55000 and PEG8000, the PCR efficiency can recover to 93%, 86% and 83%, respectively, of that obtained from tube PCR. To investigate the interplay between particle charging and hydrodynamics in fluidized beds, models for triboelectric charging and electrostatic forces were built into a computational fluid dynamics‐discrete element method model. Charge transfer was governed by the difference in effective work function between contacting materials as well as the electric field at the point of contact. Monodisperse particles were fluidized with an effective work function difference between the particles and the conducting walls. For smaller work function differences, hydrodynamics were not changed significantly as compared with an uncharged case. In these simulations, the average charge saturated at a value much lower than the value anticipated based on the work function difference, and a unimodal distribution of charges was observed. For larger work function differences, particles stuck to walls and bed height oscillations due to slugging were less pronounced.
