•  Iceland is like a black hole in the study of FDI from the Nordic countries; there is a gap in the literature about FDI from Iceland. This paper is the first empirical study that addresses the outward foreign direct investment of Icelandic firms. The purpose is to demonstrate how Icelandic companies have invested abroad through foreign direct investments.
•  The overall objective of this paper is to describe the key characteristics of Icelandic multinational corporations (MNCs) and to gain a deeper understanding of the internationalization processes of firms with a small domestic base.
•  Many Icelandic companies have been investing heavily abroad over the last six years. Some have acquired companies that are relatively larger than themselves, at least in terms of the number of employees. The main motive for this increase in foreign direct investments is access to a new market. The Icelandic market is simply not large enough for companies to be categorized as medium or large companies in the global environment. What also supports this is that, as mentioned above, the outflow of FDI from Iceland was very low in the last century.

We present a General-purpose computing on graphics processing units (GPGPU) based computational program and framework for the electronic dynamics of atomic systems under intense laser fields. We present our results using the case of hydrogen, however the code is trivially extensible to tackle problems within the single-active electron (SAE) approximation. Building on our previous work, we introduce the first available GPGPU based implementation of the Taylor, Runge–Kutta and Lanczos based methods created with strong field ab-initio simulations specifically in mind; CLTDSE. The code makes use of finite difference methods and the OpenCL framework for GPU acceleration. The specific example system used is the classic test system; Hydrogen. After introducing the standard theory, and specific quantities which are calculated, the code, including installation and usage, is discussed in-depth. This is followed by some examples and a short benchmark between an 8 hardware thread (i.e. logical core) Intel Xeon CPU and an AMD 6970 GPU, where the parallel algorithm runs 10 times faster on the GPU than the CPU.  相似文献

The authors report a new case of cardiac sarcoma treated by cardiac transplantation. This treatment has been proposed for these malignant tumours of poor prognosis when simple excision is impossible, with variable results. This patient is in good general condition 20 months after transplantation. Transplantation is a therapeutic procedure which should be considered in malignant tumours limited to the heart.  相似文献

Understanding issues of trust and deception are key to designing robust, reliable multi-agent systems. This paper builds on previous work which examined the use of auctions as a model for exploring the concept of deception in such systems. We have previously described two forms of deceptive behaviour which can occur in a simulated repeated English auction. The first of these types of deception involves sniping or late bidding, which not only allows an agent to conceal its true valuation for an item, but also potentially allows it to win an item for which it may not possess the highest valuation. The second deceptive strategy involves the placing of false bids which are designed to reduce an opponent’s potential profit. In this work we examine the potential shortcomings of those two strategies and investigate whether or not their individual strengths can be combined to produce a successful hybrid deceptive strategy.  相似文献

Open Computing Language (OpenCL) is a parallel processing language that is ideally suited for running parallel algorithms on Graphical Processing Units (GPUs). In the present work we report on the development of a generic parallel single-GPU code for the numerical solution of a system of first-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs) based on the OpenCL model. We have applied the code in the case of the Time-Dependent Schrödinger Equation of atomic hydrogen in a strong laser field and studied its performance on NVIDIA and AMD GPUs against the serial performance on a CPU. We found excellent scalability and a significant speedup of the GPU over the CPU device. The speedup in the benchmark tended towards a value of about 40 with significant speedups expected against multi-core CPUs. Furthermore, though we do not present the detailed benchmarks here, we also have achieved speedup values of around 75 by performing a slight optimization of the described algorithm.  相似文献

Search-based software engineering (SBSE) solutions are still not scalable enough to handle high-dimensional objectives space. The majority of existing work treats software engineering problems from a single or bi-objective point of view, where the main goal is to maximize or minimize one or two objectives. However, most software engineering problems are naturally complex in which many conflicting objectives need to be optimized. Software refactoring is one of these problems involving finding a compromise between several quality attributes to improve the quality of the system while preserving the behavior. To this end, we propose a novel representation of the refactoring problem as a many-objective one where every quality attribute to improve is considered as an independent objective to be optimized. In our approach based on the recent NSGA-III algorithm, the refactoring solutions are evaluated using a set of 8 distinct objectives. We evaluated this approach on one industrial project and seven open source systems. We compared our findings to: several other many-objective techniques (IBEA, MOEA/D, GrEA, and DBEA-Eps), an existing multi-objective approach a mono-objective technique and an existing refactoring technique not based on heuristic search. Statistical analysis of our experiments over 31 runs shows the efficiency of our approach.  相似文献

In spite of several decades of software metrics research and practice, there is little understanding of how software metrics relate to one another, nor is there any established methodology for comparing them. We propose a novel experimental technique, based on search-based refactoring, to ‘animate’ metrics and observe their behaviour in a practical setting. Our aim is to promote metrics to the level of active, opinionated objects that can be compared experimentally to uncover where they conflict, and to understand better the underlying cause of the conflict. Our experimental approaches include semi-random refactoring, refactoring for increased metric agreement/disagreement, refactoring to increase/decrease the gap between a pair of metrics, and targeted hypothesis testing. We apply our approach to five popular cohesion metrics using ten real-world Java systems, involving 330,000 lines of code and the application of over 78,000 refactorings. Our results demonstrate that cohesion metrics disagree with each other in a remarkable 55 % of cases, that Low-level Similarity-based Class Cohesion (LSCC) is the best representative of the set of metrics we investigate while Sensitive Class Cohesion (SCOM) is the least representative, and we discover several hitherto unknown differences between the examined metrics. We also use our approach to investigate the impact of including inheritance in a cohesion metric definition and find that doing so dramatically changes the metric.  相似文献
