The distribution of fracture intensities occurring during compression of puffed corn meal extrudates was described using an exponential function, and parameters from that analysis were used as fracturability indices. Since “jagged” or oscillating stress-strain functions are typical for porous and brittle materials, fracture intensities were determined by measuring the abrupt, sequential reductions in stress produced during compression. Both distribution exponent and cumulative fracture stress correlated strongly with fracturability measured by other techniques, including fractal and Fourier analysis of stress-strain functions. Distribution parameters also indicated textural differences due to process parameters (structural modification through addition of different levels of sucrose) and storage conditions (equilibration at various relative humidities).  相似文献

A study has been made of the electrochemical reduction of pentachlorophenol (PCP) on a lead electrode in both water and propylene carbonate. A combination of voltammetric measurements and analysis of reaction products by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) have established that the reduction of PCP in propylene carbonate occurs by two different pathways, depending upon the electrode potential. At -1.9V vs SCE, reduction is mediated by adsorbed hydrogen, whereas at -2.3V vs SCE direct reduction of PCP also occurs. A similar approach has established that the reduction of PCP in water follows only one reaction pathway, namely, direct electron transfer from lead to PCP.  相似文献

An integrated design procedure is developed for a modified Smith predictor and associated controller for linear time-delay systems having transfer functions of the form k 1, A exp (—sT)/B, where A and B are monic polynomials in s of degree nl and n, respectively. A is Hurwitz and B has a single right-half-plane root at s = λ. For l=1,2,3, an augmented PI controller guarantees asymptotic stability for λT less than an l-dependent limit. The procedure for l = 3 is extended to l = 4 with the introduction of derivative action into the controller. Design arguments are on root locus topology, and on Nyquist analysis applied to an auxiliary system.  相似文献

A common step in pharmaceutical development is the formation of a quantitative structure-activity relationship *(QSAR) to model an exploratory series of compounds. A QSAR generalizes how the structure (shape) of a compound relates to its biological activity. A comparative study was carried out of six artificial intelligence and traditional algorithms for modeling QSAR's: GOLEM, CART, and MS from symbolic machine learning; back-propagation from neural networks; and linear regression and nearest-neighbor from traditional statistics. Two test case problems were studied: the inhibition of Escherichia coli dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) by pyrimidines, and the inhibition of ratlmouse tumor DHFR by triazines. It was found that there was no significant statistical difference between the methods in terms of their ability to rank unseen compounds by activity. However, symbolic machine learning methods, in particular relational ones, were found to generate rules that provided insight into the stereochemistry of compound receptor interactions.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper presents a method for improving heuristics using a triangulation technique. Instead of using a heuristic to directly estimate distance (X1, X2) between nodes X1 and X2, the proposed technique selects a reference node Ri applies the heuristic to (X1,Ri) and (X2,Ri), and uses the Euclidean distance formula to calculate a new heuristic value. If two nodes are close to each other, then they should also be approximately equidistant to a third reference node. Utilizing a set of many such reference nodes, node expansions can be reduced for a large class of heuristics. Very early results for this method, referred to as multi-dimensional heuristics, showed that fewer node expansions were needed when using the triangulation technique. New results in this paper include the development of a new learning procedure for selecting reference nodes, experimentation on reusing reference node sets for multiple goal instances, a comparison of multi-dimensional heuristics with weighting and how they dynamically weight states near the goal, and some observations which help explain how and why this technique improves heuristics.  相似文献

Analytical canopy reflectance (CR) models have reached the level of adequacy that makes it possible to estimate vegetation parameters by inversion of such models. The growing efficiency of algorithms and the increasing power of computers urge the development of procedures for the estimation of vegetation phytometrical parameters on large areas using satellite data and inversion of theoretical CR models. In this article, clusterization of a Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) quarter scene is performed in the space of spectral signatures, and the CR model is inverted for these clusters. Optical parameters of the atmosphere which are needed for the atmospheric correction are estimated on the same image. The estimated Leaf Area Index (LAI) pattern is in good accordance to the land use map. Estimated LAI and chlorophyll content of forests are systematically biased.  相似文献

Compositional data from California early-, mid-, and late-season navel orange juice, concentrate and two-stage pulpwash were analyzed by various statistical techniques (ratios, regression, chi-square, Linear combination, and discriminant analysis) for detecting adulteration. These techniques were evaluated according to applicability for detecting three types of adulteration: (1) addition of sugar and/or citric acid, (2) addition of excess or unauthorized pulpwash, and (3) addition of other constituents intended to mask the dilution. Most parameters were significantly affected by time of harvest following commercial maturity. Two-stage pulpwash showed small but significant differences from corresponding single strength juice. Product differences were of about the same magnitude as the differences due to harvest date.  相似文献
