The oxidation of two Fe–Nb alloys containing 15 and 30 wt.% Nb has been studied at 600–800°C under low oxygen pressures, similar to those prevailing in environments of the coal-gasification type. The reaction produced only an internal oxidation of niobium to form two niobium oxides (NbO2 and Nb2O5) and in some cases a double Fe–Nb oxide. The kinetics of this reaction were very slow at 600°C but rather fast at 700 and 800°C. A peculiar feature of the internal oxidation of these alloys is that the distribution of the internal oxides follows closely that of the Nb-rich phase in the original two-phase alloys. This behavior, as well as the lack of formation of external scales of niobium oxides, is mainly a result of the limited solubility of niobium in iron and of the consequent presence of two metal phases in the alloys.  相似文献

This study aims to explore how people behave when they have to find a location within a complex building and are confronted with situations where directional signage (i.e., explicit information) is in opposition to environmental affordances that naturally direct users towards a specific path, creating a situation with conflicting information (e.g., a brighter corridor vs. a darker corridor but with a directional sign indicating to follow the darker one). A virtual reality–based methodology was used and a between‐subject design was considered. Thus, participants were given the tasks of finding three publicly accessible central points in a virtual hotel and confronted with a two forced‐choice task of local scenes in which environmental variables (i.e., corridor width and brightness) and signage varied systematically, in two experimental conditions (i.e., neutral and signage). For the signage condition, signs were inserted to explicitly point in the opposite direction than that implicitly suggested by the environmental affordances, creating situations with conflicting information. Results indicate that environmental variables were able to direct people indoors acting as environmental affordances. Users preferred to follow the wider and brighter paths. However, when directional signage pointed in the opposite direction of the paths preferred by the participants, most of them complied with signage.  相似文献

Aluminum (Al) is one of the most abundant elements on Earth, and its high extraction rate and industrial use make human exposure very common. As Al may be a human toxicant, it is important to investigate the effects of Al exposure, mainly at low doses and for prolonged periods, by simulating human exposure. This work aimed to study the effects of low-dose exposure to chloride aluminum (AlCl3) on the oxidative biochemistry, proteomic profile, and morphology of the major salivary glands. Wistar male rats were exposed to 8.3 mg/kg/day of AlCl3 via intragastric gavage for 60 days. Then, the parotid and submandibular glands were subjected to biochemical assays, proteomic evaluation, and histological analysis. Al caused oxidative imbalance in both salivary glands. Dysregulation of protein expression, mainly of those related to cytoarchitecture, energy metabolism and glandular function, was detected in both salivary glands. Al also promoted histological alterations, such as acinar atrophy and an increase in parenchymal tissue. Prolonged exposure to Al, even at low doses, was able to modulate molecular alterations associated with morphological impairments in the salivary glands of rats. From this perspective, prolonged Al exposure may be a risk to exposed populations and their oral health.  相似文献

A comparative study of the antioxidant capacity and polyphenols content of Douro wines by chemical (ABTS and Folin–Ciocalteau) and electrochemical methods (cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry) was performed. A non-linear correlation between cyclic voltammetric results and ABTS or Folin–Ciocalteau data was obtained if all types of wines (white, muscatel, ruby, tawny and red wines) are grouped together in the same correlation plot. In contrast, a very good linear correlation was observed between the electrochemical antioxidant capacity determined by differential pulse voltammetry and the radical scavenging activity of ABTS. It was also found that the antioxidant capacity of wines evaluated by the electrochemical methods (expressed as gallic acid equivalents) depend on background electrolyte of the gallic acid standards, type of electrochemical signal (current or charge) and electrochemical technique.  相似文献

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were functionalized with a variety of chemical groups by reaction of p-substituted anilines (R–Ph–NH2) in the presence and absence of isopentyl nitrite used for the in situ generation of diazonium species. All materials were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermogravimetry and infrared spectroscopy.In the presence of isopentyl nitrite, the extent of functionalization was high and nearly independent on the amount of isopentyl nitrite and on the aniline substituents (R = F, Cl, I, NH2, NO2, OH, COOH, COOEt and Et). Unexpectedly, the functionalization of MWCNT with anilines bearing electron withdrawing groups was also observed in the absence of isopentyl nitrite. In the case of OH–Ph–NH2, the reaction leads to MWCNT with the highest degree of functionalization and this can be considered as a new and efficient methodology for CNT functionalization with phenol groups. The overall reaction mechanism is discussed for both reaction conditions: confirmation of a radical chain mechanism was obtained for the reaction performed in the presence of isopentyl nitrite, while the formation of stabilized dipolar intermediate species seems to be involved in the absence of isopentyl nitrite. The materials with the highest degree of functionalization showed very good dispersions in acetonitrile even after 1 month.  相似文献

Functional organosilanes were appended, in aprotic and anhydrous conditions, onto multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) previously submitted to three different oxidative treatments: acid, acid with subsequent thermal treatment at 400 °C and 5% O2/N2 treatment at 500 °C. The materials were characterised by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, elemental analysis, temperature programmed desorption, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, nitrogen adsorption isotherms at −196 °C and scanning electron microscopy. The techniques provided a correlation between the type and oxygen contents present in the oxidised MWCNTs and the silylation reaction efficiency, leading to a comprehensive overview of the reaction mechanism and materials structure/composition. The highest silylation reaction efficiencies were achieved with the aminosilane in all the oxidised materials and with mercaptosilane in the acid oxidised MWCNTs with nearly 4% Si insertion, whereas for the other organosilanes values lower than 2% were observed. The silylation mechanism was found to proceed through reaction of the alkoxy moieties from the organosilane with phenol surface groups from the MWCNTs; in the case of aminosilane for all MWCNTs and mercaptosilane in acid oxidised MWCNTs, it also occurred by reaction with the carbonyl surface groups. Furthermore, for these latter materials a polymerisation side-reaction was proposed as a parallel functionalisation pathway.  相似文献

This study examined the relative influence of environmental variables (corridor width and brightness) and signage (directional and exit signs), when presented in competition, on participants' route-choices in two situational variables (everyday vs. emergency), during indoor wayfinding in virtual environments. A virtual reality-based methodology was used. Thus, participants attempted to find a room (everyday situation) in a virtual hotel, followed by a fire-related emergency egress (emergency situation). Different behaviours were observed. In the everyday situation, for no-signs condition, participants choose mostly the wider and brighter corridors, suggesting a heavy reliance on the environmental affordances. Conversely, for signs condition, participants mostly complied with signage, suggesting a greater reliance on the signs rather than on the environmental cues. During emergency, without signage, reliance on environmental affordances seems to be affected by the intersection type. In the sign condition, the reliance on environmental affordances that started strong decreases along the egress route.  相似文献
