Formation of the complex oxide NaNdTiO<Subscript>4</Subscript>

The processes of phase formation in the Na₂CO₃-TiO₂ and Na₂CO₃-TiO₂-Nd₂O₃ systems are investigated in the temperature range 600–900°C. The high-temperature solid-phase reactions underlying the process of formation of complex oxide NaNdTiO4 are studied. It is established that the synthesis of the NaNdTiO₄ compound occurs through the reaction of the intermediate product Na₈Ti₅O₁₄ with neodymium oxide in the temperature range 720–780°C. The optimum method is proposed for synthesizing NaNdTiO₄, which makes it possible to reduce the temperature of the synthesis, to avoid the formation of impurities, and to obtain the product in a finely dispersed state.     

Formation of cube texture in nickel-palladium alloys for epitaxial substrates for deposition of high-temperature superconductors

The texture, structure, and magnetic and mechanical properties of thin ribbons of nickel-palladium alloys have been studied. It has been demonstrated that in Ni₉₄Pd₆ and Ni_92.5Pd₅W_2.5 alloys, a sharp cube texture can be formed that is stable up to rather high annealing temperatures. Segregation of palladium atoms to surface layers of ribbons has been found, which gives additional advantages for using these ribbons as substrates for epitaxial deposition of high-temperature superconductors.     

Effect of plastic deformation on the electrical resistivity of metals

Results from measurements of the electrical resistivity of copper and aluminum conductors under the action of a plane shock wave, and also analysis of the relationship between the electrical resistivity and the hydrostatic pressure and of the theoretical temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity, has made it possible to elucidate the role of defect formation due to the plastic deformation of the metal and to determine its contribution to the increase in electrical resisitivity of the metal. Enhancement of bending strength of heat-resistant steel by ion carbonitriding

The heat-resistant steel 20Kh3MVF-Sh is used for toothed gears employed in pumps of turbojet engines. In service, the working surface of the gears is subjected to intensive wear. Using gas-phase carburizing to case-harden such gears has proven to be insufficiently effective. In this work we have investigated the structure, the chemical composition, and the wear resistance of 20Kh3MVF-Sh steel after ion carbonitriding. We have obtained regression equations relating the wear resistance characteristics to the carbon and nitrogen concentration and the hardness of the diffusion layer.
