We present the case of a patient in whom hypotension, sudden cardiopulmonary arrest, and coma developed after a massive dose of a seemingly harmless cathartic agent. The diagnosis of hypermagnesemia was made 9 hours after the patient's admission, when the serum magnesium concentration was 21.7 mg/dL (8.9 mmol/L). The patient's condition improved with IV calcium, saline solution infusion, and cardiorespiratory support. The elimination half-life of magnesium in this case was 27.7 hours. Few cases have been reported in which patients have survived with serum levels greater than 18 mg/dL (7.4 mmol/L). This case provides evidence that hypermagnesemia may occur in patients with normal kidney function. The diagnosis of hypermagnesemia should be considered in patients who present with symptoms of hyporeflexia, lethargy, refractory hypotension, shock, prolonged QT interval, respiratory depression, or cardiac arrest. 相似文献

The Gram stain method was applied to the photometric characterization of aquatic bacterial populations with a charge-coupled device camera and an image analyzer. Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis were used as standards of typical gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, respectively. A mounting agent to obtain clear images of Gram-stained bacteria on Nuclepore membrane filters was developed. The bacterial stainability by the Gram stain was indicated by the Gram stain index (GSI), which was applicable not only to the dichotomous classification of bacteria but also to the characterization of cell wall structure. The GSI spectra of natural bacterial populations in water with various levels of eutrophication showed a distinct profile, suggesting possible staining specificity that indicates the presence of a particular bacterial population in the aquatic environment. 相似文献

The influence of base metal grain size on isothermal solidification during transient liquid-phase brazing with Ni-11 wt% P filler metal has been investigated. Single-crystal, coarse-grained and fine-grained nickel base metal were brazed at 1150C for various holding times. The eutectic width decreased linearly with the square-root of the brazing time in single-crystal, coarse-grained and fine-grained nickel base metals. The completion time for isothermal solidification decreased in the order single-crystal, coarse-grained and fine-grained nickel base metal. The difference in isothermal solidification rates produced when brazing the different base metals is explained qualitatively by the influence of base metal grain boundaries on the apparent mean diffusion coefficient of phosphorus in solid nickel. 相似文献

The constitutive modeling of cyclic plasticity of soils has made great progress, especially in the area of sands liquefaction modeling. Nowadays, the problem of rutting of flexible pavements linked to permanent deformations occurring in the unbound layers is taken into account only by empirical formulas. This paper presents an elastoplastic model with both isotropic and kinematic hardening. The yield surface, plastic potential, and isotropic hardening are based on a model for sands, which takes into account the influence of the initial void ratio and of the mean stress on the mechanical behavior. A kinematic hardening has been added in order to take into account the mechanical behavior of the material for large cycle numbers. A complete model is then developed, simulations are presented, and comparisons with repeated load triaxial tests carried out on a subgrade soil (clayey sand), have been made. These comparisons underline the capabilities of the model to take into account the monotonic, cyclic, and ratchetting behavior of unbound materials for roads. 相似文献

Most populations and some species of ticks of the genera Boophilus (5 spp.) and Rhipicephalus (ca. 75 spp.) cannot be distinguished phenotypically. Moreover, there is doubt about the validity of species in these genera. I studied the entire second internal transcribed spacer (ITS 2) rRNA of 16 populations of rhipicephaline ticks to address these problems: Boophilus microplus from Australia, Kenya, South Africa and Brazil (4 populations); Boophilus decoloratus from Kenya; Rhipicephalus appendiculatus from Kenya, Zimbabwe and Zambia (7 populations); Rhipicephalus zambesiensis from Zimbabwe (3 populations); and Rhipicephalus evertsi from Kenya. Each of the 16 populations had a unique ITS 2, but most of the nucleotide variation occurred among species and genera. ITS 2 rRNA can be used to distinguish the populations and species of Boophilus and Rhipicephalus studied here. Little support was found for the hypothesis that B. microplus from Australia and South Africa are different species. ITS 2 appears useful for phylogenetic inference in the Rhipicephalinae because in genetic distance, maximum likelihood, and maximum parsimony analyses, most branches leading to species had >95% bootstrap support. Rhipicephalus appendiculatus and R. zambeziensis are closely related, yet their ITS 2 sequences could be distinguished unambiguously. This lends weight to a previous proposal that Rhipicephcalus sanguineus and Rhipicephalus turanicus, and Rhipicephalus pumilio and Rhipicephalus camicasi, respectively, are conspecific, because each of these pairs of species had identical sequences for ca. 250 bp of ITS 2 rRNA. 相似文献

A current measurement method through magnetic field detection by magnetic force microscopy was proposed and demonstrated. We observed the magnetic field induced by an AC below 2.2 μA around a GaAs/AlGaAs mesa stripe. To achieve high sensitivity in magnetic field detection, we tuned the AC bias frequency to the torsional resonant frequency of the cantilever. As a result, the sensitivity of the magnetic field detection was much improved and specific features of the magnetic field around the mesa stripe were clearly observed at a current in sub-μA range. 相似文献

With the rapid progress of technology in a wide variety of industries, such as aerospace, IT, civil engineering/construction, energy, etc., the metals used in these fields have recently seen increasingly stringent requirements being imposed on their strength, toughness, corrosion resistance, durability, etc. A capability for resource- and energy-saving as well as good recyclability are also being increasingly sought to counter a number of progressively more serious problems facing the global environment.
