Presents a dialog between an advocate of traditional psychoanalytic psychotherapy and a proponent of some newer therapeutic modalities: encounter groups, behavior modification, and primal (scream) therapy. The 2 speakers begin by agreeing on various important sources of mutual prejudice that might color their discussion. From their respective vantage points, they then raise issues concerning the nature of the relationship between patient and therapist; the techniques employed; the role of abreaction; the importance of diagnosis; and the place of thought and feeling, and of action and experience. They point out that their dialogue, at times, turns into a debate, and they end by agreeing on the need for integration of their different viewpoints. Proposes a systematic way of thinking about communication problems between providers and consumers of psychological information. The specific focus is on the assessment situation, but the applicability of the principles and issues discussed to nonclinical areas is emphasized. In particular, problems in communication are viewed as diagnostic issues to be understood rather than as unfortunate irritants. Such difficulties can be due to the dynamics of the client (be it a person, an organization, or a segment of the public), differences in training and viewpoint between provider and consumer, and confusion and mistaken assumptions about the role of the psychologist. The need for psychologists to include as part of their tasks an internal re-creation of both the client's and the consumer-colleague's inner experience is stressed. Suggests that psychotherapy is an ongoing process that is independent of treatment duration. According to this unfolding perspective, therapy is a process set in motion that aims toward helping patients learn a method, a different way of thinking and feeling about themselves and their distress and even about future life issues, rather than only resolving a problem or providing a solution. In this way, therapy restarts a growth process and becomes a special form of education rather than a circumscribed treatment. It is argued that a key dimension for all psychotherapy might be the definiteness or indefiniteness of the termination point, not the length of treatment per se; reframing termination may ease its pain. Packet reordering is not pathological network behavior   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
It is a widely held belief that packet reordering in the Internet is a pathological behavior, or more precisely, that it is an uncommon behavior caused by incorrect or malfunctioning network components. Some studies of Internet traffic have reported seeing occasional packet reordering events and ascribed these events to “route fluttering”, router “pauses” or simply to broken equipment. We have found, however, that parallelism in Internet components and links is causing packet reordering under normal operation and that the incidence of packet reordering appears to be substantially higher than previously reported. More importantly, we observe that in the presence of massive packet reordering transmission control protocol (TCP) performance can be profoundly effected. Perhaps the most disturbing observation about TCP's behavior is that large scale and largely random reordering on the part of the network can lead to self-reinforcingly poor performance from TCP  相似文献
