Examined the relationship between aphasia type and lesion site in 80 subcortical stroke patients. Ss were classified as affected by aphasia, dysarthria, and nonaphasia, nondysarthria. Sites of lesions were identified by means of computerized tomography (CT) scan. No correlation between site of lesions and category group was found. Lesions of the same subcortical structures yielded different neurolinguistic impairment, whereas comparable linguistic patterns were observed with lesions of different deep areas. Centrifugal casting is a technology used for manufacturing hybrid rocket paraffin grains. This technology helps avoiding voids formation inside the solid paraffin as it cools. Voids are formed because of air bubbles being entrapped while pouring and because the liquid wax shrinks by 17–19% upon cooling. In this work, the centrifugal casting process for the manufacturing of paraffin cylinders was prototyped at two different scales considering critical casting issues. The effects of process parameters (rotational speed, melt temperature, and flow rate) on the tensile properties of the manufactured grains were analyzed. The results of the optimization conducted at the lower scale (2.5?kg) were up scaled to manufacture 25?kg grains. The resulting mechanical properties complied with the design specifications, and they were better than those characterized from the gravity cast wax. A numerical model of growth and dissolution of bubbles during the process was then developed to predict the quality of the castings. The numerical results showed how increasing the mold rotational speed up to 1800?rpm reduced the removal time. However, compared to grains solidification time, the predicted removal times were much shorter, proving the advantage of centrifugal casting in counteracting voids formation.  相似文献

Clogging of venting slots in injection molds is a common maintenance problem caused by the degradation and the accumulation of gaseous and volatiles by-products of polymer melting. In this work, the effect of laser-induced periodic surface structures on the self-cleaning properties of venting slots is investigated. The degradation of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) over different surfaces is characterized by reproducing the mechanisms that occurs in mold cavities when the air is pushed through the venting channel. An imaging technique is developed for the quantification of the sediment that deposits on sample surfaces due to condensation of by-products of PET melting. The experimental results indicate that the use of a multiscale texture minimizes the deposition of residues on the vent surface reducing it from 17.2 to 3.1%. A linear dependency between contact angle and clogging ratio indicates the efficacy of the model that explains vent self-cleaning properties considering their wetting properties.  相似文献

Micro injection molding enables the manufacture of micro-scale features with good accuracy at high production rates. However, the replication of complex micro and nano features is still challenging hindering the development of new functional surface topographies. The marked thermal gradient between injected polymer and mold surface and the reduced dimensions promote a rapid drop of melt temperature that causes the incomplete filling of the micro features. This study aims to investigate the combined effects of vacuum venting and mold wettability on the replication of micro-structured surfaces. A low-viscosity polystyrene and a cyclic olefin copolymer were selected and their wetting properties were evaluated. The results showed that a polymer with high wetting properties and an elevated viscosity dependence on temperature improves the replication of the micro features. Moreover, high interfacial effects can be exploited to significantly enhance the filling ratio when applying vacuum venting.

Studied the relations of age, sex, and lesion site to aphasia type in 270 stroke patients (aged 18–93 yrs). No relation was found between either age and lesion site or age and aphasia type in a subsample of 63 aphasics with left anterior or posterior lesion. Ss with atypical aphasia (i.e., anterior-damaged Ss with global or fluent aphasia and posterior-damaged Ss with global or nonfluent aphasia) were significantly older than Ss with classical aphasia. This finding points to a lesser specification of the expressive and receptive functions with age. Sex was not related to aphasia type, but it influenced the site of the lesion. We studied two sets of identical twins with keratoconus. The first 21-year-old pair had bilateral fully developed keratoconus and the second 35-year-old pair presented with early bilateral keratoconus detected by videokeratography. To our knowledge, these are the seventh and eighth sets of identical twins with keratoconus reported in the literature. They support the evidence of heredity as a factor in the etiology of keratoconus. Videokeratography proved to be a valuable adjunct for the detection of early keratoconus in a cornea with normal slit-lamp microscopy and photokeratoscopy results. Radial keratotomy in one eye produced an unstable refraction.  相似文献

In a group of 13 patients with severe heart failure, both forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) significantly improved after intensive medical therapy (FVC: from 77 +/- 17 to 92 +/- 20%, p < 0.001; FEV1: from 65 +/- 15 to 81 +/- 15%, p < 0.001) in the absence of change in M-mode echo cardiac dimension and left ventricular systolic function; on the other hand, a change of indices of left ventricular filling by Doppler transmitral flow was documented (E/A ratio: from 3.6 +/- 1.2 to 1.65 +/- 1.5, p < 0.01; early filling deceleration time: from 94 +/- 39 to 178 +/- 78 ms, p < 0.01), indicating a reduction of pulmonary capillary pressure; this probably positively affected pulmonary interstitial edema and bronchial wall congestion, thus enhancing pulmonary function.  相似文献

Voluntary eye movements and following movements have been assessed on a 3 point scale in 33 cerebrovascular patients, examined immediately after the stroke and in 52 patients examined 6-9 days after the stroke. The two types of movements were found to be impaired to the same extent in the majority of patients, especially those with severe neurological deficits. The "agreement index" between them, though high, was significantly inferior to 1. This suggests that voluntary and following movements are subserved by adjacent, but not identical neuronal structures. The available neuro-radiological evidence points to the parieto-temporal cortex as the area critically involved in eye movement disorders.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate echographically anatomic and functional features of the left ventricle in adult patients with valvular aortic stenosis according to the presence or absence of congestive heart failure and the level of ventricular performance. Fifty-six adult patients with moderate-to-severe aortic stenosis underwent echocardiographic Doppler examination in order to evaluate left ventricular mass and dimensions, systolic function and filling dynamics. Twenty-seven patients had no heart failure and were symptomatic for angina (5), syncope (4) or were symptom-free (group I); the other 29 had heart failure (group II): 16 with normal left ventricular systolic performance (fractional shortening > 25%, group IIa) and 13 with systolic dysfunction (fractional shortening < or = 25%, group IIb). Despite a similar left ventricular mass, compared to group IIa, group IIb showed a significant left ventricular dilatation (end-diastolic diameter: 61 +/- 6.5 vs. 45.5 +/- 6.1 mm, p < 0.001) and mild or no increase in wall thickness (11.5 +/- 1.6 vs. 14.9 +/- 2 mm, p < 0.001). Indices of left ventricular filling on Doppler transmitral flow were also significantly different between the two groups, with a higher early-to-late filling ratio and a shorter deceleration time of early filling in group IIb (2.8 +/- 1.9 vs. 1.2 +/- 0.85, p < 0.01, and 122 +/- 66 vs. 190 +/- 87 ms, p < 0.05, respectively), both indirectly indicating higher left atrial pressure. Finally, heart failure was generally more severe in group IIb patients. In some patients with aortic stenosis, symptoms of heart failure may be present despite a normal left ventricular systolic function and seem to depend on abnormalities of diastolic function. The presence of systolic or isolated diastolic dysfunction appears to be related to a different geometric adaptation of the left ventricle to chronic pressure overload.  相似文献
