The solar thermochemical production of H2 and CO (syngas) from H2O and CO2 is examined via a two‐step cycle based on Zn/ZnO redox reactions. The first, endothermic step is the thermolysis of the ZnO driven by concentrated solar energy. The second, nonsolar step is the exothermic reaction of Zn with a mixture of H2O and CO2 yielding syngas and ZnO; the latter is recycled to the first step. A series of experimental runs of the second step was carried out in a packed‐bed reactor where ZnO particles provided an effective inert support for preventing sintering and enabling simple and complete recycling to the first, solar step. Experimentation was performed for Zn mass fractions in the range of 33–67 wt % Zn‐ZnO, and inlet gas concentrations in the range 0–75% H2O–CO2, yielding molar Zn‐to‐ZnO conversions up to 91%. A 25 wt % Zn‐ZnO sample mixture produced from the solar thermolysis of ZnO was tested in the same reactor setup and exhibited high reactivity and conversions up to 96%. © 2011 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2012  相似文献

The convective heat transfer characteristics of ice slurries flowing vertically upward in a rectangular channel have been experimentally investigated. At steady state, the local heat transfer coefficients were obtained during convective melting, and the effects of ice fraction, Reynolds number and wall heat flux were determined. To gain more insights into the flow properties, local measurements of the axial mixture velocity, temperature and ice fraction distributions were also made near a heated wall. Four main factors were shown to enhance the convective heat transfer coefficient of ice slurries relative to single-phase flow: (1) the ice fraction, (2) thermally and/or hydrodynamically developing flow conditions, (3) mixed-convection and (4) non-Newtonian effects experienced at Re < 4000. Two new and simple heat transfer correlations are also proposed for the practical design of compact heat exchangers involving phase change ice slurries.  相似文献

Local measurements of the axial mixture velocity and ice fraction profiles were conducted for the vertically, upward adiabatic ice slurry flow in a 0.305-m (W) × 0.61-m (L) × 0.025-m (gap) rectangular channel using a hot film anemometer (HFA) and an on-line ice slurry sampling/calorimetry technique. Experiments were performed at area-averaged ice fractions and mean velocities up to 16 vol% and 0.15 m s−1, respectively. The ice fraction distributions systematically displayed slight peaking near the adiabatic walls for average ice fractions less than 8%; however, at higher ice fractions, the ice fraction distributions became flatter. For average ice fractions greater than 2%, the velocity distributions displayed flatter profiles than in single-phase flow, which indicates the non-Newtonian flow characteristics of ice slurries.  相似文献

We developed a method to identify maternal deaths (deaths to women within 365 days of delivery) by linking Tennessee vital records. A computerized algorithm compared personal identifiers from the death certificates of reproductive-aged women to maternal identifiers on birth and fetal death certificates. For each decedent record which met the study criteria, the algorithm calculated a "match score" by comparing common elements in both files. The algorithm awarded full credit for data elements that agree exactly, partial credit for elements in partial agreement, and subtracted credit for information that mismatched. Match scores ranged from 0 to 35 for the 9,009 deaths in women 10-55 years of age during the three study years, with the majority of scores (96.3%) being 0 for "no match." Match scores of 1 to 8 were obtained by 153 (1.7%) of decedent records, while scores greater than 9 were obtained by 184 (2.0%) of decedent records. We used nurse-abstracted hospital, autopsy, and coroner records as our standard to verify the linkages. Manual review of personal identifiers showed that scores of 12 or less were not a match while scores of 13 or more indicated "true" matches. Based on this cutoff, the linkage algorithm yielded 130 maternal deaths. Of these, 32 (25%) were classified as truly pregnancy-related upon medical record review by an obstetrician. The remaining 98 deaths were associated only temporally with pregnancy. During the same time period, 16 individuals were identified to the State Health Department on their death certificates as dying from pregnancy-related causes, including one not identified by the linkage process.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Minced pork samples (n = 150) obtained from butchers' shops and supermarkets in Greece, during summer (n = 75) and winter (n = 75), were subjected to microbiological analysis. Microbial counts (log CFU/g) for the parameters tested were: total viable count (TVC), 6.8 ± 1.0; Pseudomonas spp., 6.4 ± 1.2; Brochothrix thermosphacta, 5.9 ± 1.1; lactic acid bacteria, 5.3 ± 1.0; yeasts and moulds, 4.6 ± 0.7; hydrogen sulfide (H(2)S)-producing bacteria, 4.3 ± 1.3; Enterobacteriaceae, 3.6 ± 1.2; total coliforms, 2.9 ± 1.1; Escherichia coli, 1.4 ± 0.7; Staphylococcus spp., 4.3 ± 1.0; S. aureus, 2.4 ± 0.9, and Listeria spp., 1.4 ± 0.6. The highest correlations were between TVC and pseudomonads, B. thermosphacta and H(2)S-producing bacteria, while the lowest were between total coliforms and all other groups of microorganisms except Enterobacteriaceae. The type of retail outlet and the seasonality of sampling did not have any significant effects (p>0.05) on minced pork meat quality. Interrelationships between (i) meat quality and shelf life, (ii) hygienic conditions during mince preparation and (iii) personnel hygiene were revealed.  相似文献

We consider the generation of prime-order elliptic curves (ECs) over a prime field \mathbbFp\mathbb{F}_{p} using the Complex Multiplication (CM) method. A crucial step of this method is to compute the roots of a special type of class field polynomials with the most commonly used being the Hilbert and Weber ones. These polynomials are uniquely determined by the CM discriminant D. In this paper, we consider a variant of the CM method for constructing elliptic curves (ECs) of prime order using Weber polynomials. In attempting to construct prime-order ECs using Weber polynomials, two difficulties arise (in addition to the necessary transformations of the roots of such polynomials to those of their Hilbert counterparts). The first one is that the requirement of prime order necessitates that D≡3mod8), which gives Weber polynomials with degree three times larger than the degree of their corresponding Hilbert polynomials (a fact that could affect efficiency). The second difficulty is that these Weber polynomials do not have roots in \mathbbFp\mathbb{F}_{p} .  相似文献

We have shown previously that the 5-lipoxygenase product 5-oxo-6,8, 11,14-eicosatetraenoic acid (5-oxo-ETE) is a highly potent eosinophil chemoattractant in vitro. To determine whether this substance can induce pulmonary eosinophil infiltration in vivo, it was administered to Brown Norway rats by tracheal insufflation. Eosinophils were then counted in lung sections that had been immunostained with an antibody to eosinophil major basic protein. 5-Oxo-ETE induced a dramatic increase in the numbers of eosinophils (ED50, 2.5 microg) around the walls of the airways, which reached maximal levels (five times control levels) between 15 and 24 h after administration, and then declined. LTB4 also induced pulmonary eosinophil infiltration with a similar ED50 but appeared to be somewhat less effective. In contrast, LTD4 and LTE4 were inactive. 5-Oxo-ETE-induced eosinophilia was unaffected by the LTB4 and PAF antagonists LY255283 and WEB 2170, respectively. However, it was inhibited by approximately 75% by monoclonal antibodies to CD49d (VLA-4) or CD11a (LFA-1) but was not significantly affected by an antibody to CD11b (Mac-1). In conclusion, 5-oxo-ETE induces pulmonary eosinophilia in Brown Norway rats, raising the possibility that it may be a physiological mediator of inflammation in asthma.  相似文献

In many cryptographic applications it is necessary to generate elliptic curves (ECs) whose order possesses certain properties. The method that is usually employed for the generation of such ECs is the so-called Complex Multiplication method. This method requires the use of the roots of certain class field polynomials defined on a specific parameter called the discriminant. The most commonly used polynomials are the Hilbert and Weber ones. The former can be used to generate directly the EC, but they are characterized by high computational demands. The latter have usually much lower computational requirements, but they do not directly construct the desired EC. This can be achieved if transformations of their roots to the roots of the corresponding (generated by the same discriminant) Hilbert polynomials are provided. In this paper we present a variant of the Complex Multiplication method that generates ECs of cryptographically strong order. Our variant is based on the computation of Weber polynomials. We present in a simple and unifying manner a complete set of transformations of the roots of a Weber polynomial to the roots of its corresponding Hilbert polynomial for all values of the discriminant. In addition, we prove a theoretical estimate of the precision required for the computation of Weber polynomials for all values of the discriminant. We present an extensive experimental assessment of the computational efficiency of the Hilbert and Weber polynomials along with their precision requirements for various discriminant values and we compare them with the theoretical estimates. We further investigate the time efficiency of the new Complex Multiplication variant under different implementations of a crucial step of the variant. Our results can serve as useful guidelines to potential implementers of EC cryptosystems involving generation of ECs of a desirable order on resource limited hardware devices or in systems operating under strict timing response constraints. The ice slurry medium type used in a refrigeration application could influence the performance of an ice slurry system. For this reason and depending on the refrigeration application, the user has to usually carry out a judgemental selection of the ice slurry mixture type, which should take into account the solute type and its concentration. This article compares the performance of several commonly used organic and inorganic ice slurry secondary refrigerants. This study was based on thermophysical assessments carried out at different operating temperatures. The calculation method that was used to determine the ice slurry properties is first presented. Then, in order to describe the thermophysical efficiency of mixtures at various operating temperatures (−5, −20 and −35 °C), three performance criteria were compared, namely, the volume enthalpy drop, the temperature at the inlet of the application and the relative viscosity of the ice slurry. The results showed that inorganic mixtures are good selection candidates, except for situations where low temperatures and high ice concentrations are encountered at the inlet of the application. Methyl alcohol came out as a good performance candidate for all refrigeration applications, although NH3 was the best choice based on the current thermo-physical property assessments.  相似文献
