The authors analyzed the mechanical behavior of the calf pericardium employed in the construction of valve leaflets for cardiac bioprostheses. Forty samples of pericardium were subjected to uniaxial tensile testing, 20 as controls and 20 exposed to loads increasing stepwise until rupture, with a return to zero load between each new increment. Another 20 samples were used similarly in biaxial tensile tests involving loads increasing stepwise until rupture, again returning to zero load between steps. The ultimate stresses in the uniaxial study were very similar and were not influenced by the region of pericardial tissue being tested or the increments in load to which the tissue was exposed. The mean stresses at rupture in the stepwise biaxial assays were significantly greater (p<0.01). Using morphological and mechanical criteria for sample selection, it was possible to obtain mathematical fits for the stress/strain relationship in both types of assays, with excellent coefficients of determination (R 2>0.90). In uniaxial tests in which the selection criteria were not applied, the correlation improved as the load increased, a phenomenon that did not occur in the biaxial studies. The values varied throughout the different cycles, adopting exponential forms when the strain was greatest. These variations, which demonstrate that the increase in the energy consumed is a function of the stress applied and of the strain produced, should be good parameters for assessing the changes in the collagen fiber architecture of pericardial tissue subjected to cyclic stress, and may help to detect early failure.  相似文献

We have fabricated and characterized Yba 2 Cu 3 O 7– -Ba 2 HoSbO 6 a realized high T c superconductor - ceramic insulator composite system in which particles of the superconductor and ceramic insulator could coexist with well defined separated phases left intact by stringent processing conditions. All the composites exhibit superconductivity at 92K. EDX analysis show that element% and atomic% of the composites are in a good agreement with those of their respective components. SEM studies show homogenous surface morphology and particle size distribution. There is no detectable interface interaction between component grains and Ba 2 HoSbO 6 grains are distinguishably distributed in the Yba 2 Cu 3 O 7– matrix.  相似文献

Escherichia coli O157:H7 is a foodborne pathogenic bacterium that can reside undetected in the gastrointestinal tract of cattle because colonization by this bacterium is asymptomatic. Recent research has indicated that swine can carry and transmit this pathogen as well. The development of more advanced and sensitive detection techniques has improved the limit of detection and increased sensitivity for this important pathogen. This study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of E. coli O157 in cattle and swine in Mexico with the more sensitive detection technique of immunomagnetic bead separation. Samples (n = 60 per farm) were taken from four cattle and four swine farms (n = 240 cattle samples, n = 240 swine samples) located throughout central Mexico in October 2001. The prevalence of E. coli O157 was found to be only 1.25% on cattle farms and 2.1% on swine farms. The prevalence in cattle in this study is lower than that reported in the United States and could be related to the lower reported prevalence of E. coli O157 in humans in Mexico. However, further research is needed to verify prevalence throughout other regions of Mexico, as well as prevalence during other seasons of the year.  相似文献

In this study, we investigated the activity of pre-sulfated 1%Pt–2%Sn/γ–Al2O3 on the catalytic abatement of the combustion emissions of three fuels: pure diesel E(0), pure bioethanol E(100) and bioethanol blended diesel containing 10% bioethanol E(10). The emissions generated, by each blend combustion, were conducted continuously to the catalyst sample. The catalytic activity was determined by following the evolution of the outflow emissions concentrations by FTIR gas spectroscopy as a function of the catalyst temperature. Results showed that the addition of bioethanol to diesel may be necessary to enhance the catalytic oxidation of diesel unburned hydrocarbons and particulate matter on pre-sulfated 1%Pt–2%Sn/γ–Al2O3.  相似文献

The propagation of a free-space optical communications signal through atmospheric turbulence experiences random fluctuations in intensity, including signal fades, which negatively impact the performance of the communications link. The gamma-gamma probability density function is commonly used to model the scintillation of a single beam. One proposed method to reduce the occurrence of scintillation-induced fades at the receiver plane involves the use of multiple beams propagating through independent paths, resulting in a sum of independent gamma-gamma random variables. Recently an analytical model for the probability distribution of irradiance from the sum of multiple independent beams was developed. Because truly independent beams are practically impossible to create, we present here a more general but approximate model for the distribution of beams traveling through partially correlated paths. This model compares favorably with wave-optics simulations and highlights the reduced scintillation as the number of transmitted beams is increased. Additionally, a pulse-position modulation scheme is used to reduce the impact of signal fades when they occur. Analytical and simulated results showed significantly improved performance when compared to fixed threshold on/off keying.  相似文献

This paper describes the test and the results of a first prototype solar powered gas turbine system, installed during 2002 in the CESA-1 tower facility at Plataforma Solar de Almería (PSA) in Spain. The main goals of the project were to develop a solar receiver cluster able to provide pressurized air of 1000 °C and solve the problems arising from the coupling of the receivers with a conventional gas turbine to demonstrate the operability of the system. The test set-up consists of the heliostat field of the CESA-1 facility providing the concentrated solar power, a pressurized solar receiver cluster of three modules of 400 kWth each which convert the solar power into heat, and a modified helicopter engine (OST3) with a generator coupled to the grid. The first test phase at PSA started in December 2002 with the goal to reach a temperature level of 800 °C at the combustor air inlet by the integration of solar energy. This objective was achieved by the end of this test phase in March 2003, and the system could be operated at 230 kWe power to grid without major problems. In the second test phase from June 2003 to August 2003 the temperature level was increased to almost 1000 °C. The paper describes the system configuration, the component efficiencies and the operation experiences of the first 100 h of solar operation of this very successful first test of a solar operated Brayton gas turbine system.  相似文献

We have measured haemodynamic responses to induction of anaesthesia, laryngoscopy and intubation in 103 mild-moderate hypertensive patients (83 patients (diastolic pressures < or = 110 mm Hg) currently receiving one of four monotherapies (ACE inhibitors, group A; beta adrenoceptor blocking drugs, group B; calcium channel antagonists, group C; diuretics, group D) and 24 were untreated hypertensive patients). Anaesthesia was induced with fentanyl 1.5-2.0 micrograms kg-1 and thiopentone 3-5 mg kg-1. Tracheal intubation was facilitated by vecuronium 0.1 mg kg-1 and anaesthesia maintained with enflurane and nitrous oxide in oxygen. Systolic and diastolic pressures (SAP, DAP) were measured at 1-min intervals by a non-invasive oscillometric method and cardiac output (CO) and stroke volume (SV) by thoracic bioimpedance. Induction of anaesthesia was associated with a decrease in SAP, DAP and CO in groups A-D (P < 0.05). Heart rate (HR) decreased in groups A and D (P < 0.01) and systemic vascular resistance (SVR) decreased in groups A and B (P < 0.05). SAP and HR increased in all groups after laryngoscopy and intubation (P < 0.01) as did SVR in groups A, B and D (P < 0.02). CO was unaltered. Similar changes occurred in the untreated hypertensive patients, although nine of 24 patients exhibited HR > or = 100 beat min-1 after laryngoscopy and intubation. Comparison of the changes in SAP, DAP, CO and SVR with time showed no differences in the five treatment groups; changes in HR were significantly less in group B compared with the other groups (P < 0.01).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
