ABSTRACT: Cumin (Cuminum cyminum) is one of the commonly used spices in food preparations. It is also used in traditional medicine as a stimulant, a carminative, and an astringent. In this study, we characterized the antimicrobial, antioxidant, and cytotoxic activities of cumin. E. coli, S. aureus, and S. faecalis were sensitive to various oil dilutions. The total phenol content of the essential oil was estimated to be 33.43 μg GAE/mg of the oil. The oil showed higher antioxidant activity compared with that of BHT and BHA. The cumin essential oil exhibited a dose-dependent scavenging of DPPH radicals and 5.4 μg of the oil was sufficient to scavenge 50% of DPPH radicals/mL. At a concentration of 0.1 μL/mL, oil destructed Hela cells by 79%. The antioxidant activity of cumin essential oil might contribute to its cytotoxic activity. Acute and subchronic toxicity was studied in a 30-d oral toxicity study by administration to Wistar rats of the essential oil. A 17.38% decrease in WBCs count, and 25.77%, 14.24%, and 108.81% increase in hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit, and platelet count, respectively, were noted. LDL/HDL ratio was reduced to half, which adds to the nutritional effects of cumin. Thus, cumin with a high phenolic content and good antioxidant activity can be supplemented for both nutritional purposes and preservation of foods.  相似文献

Emergence of multidrug resistance (MDR) has limited the success of chemotherapeutic agents. Reversal of drugs efflux systems through combination therapy has got wider attention for increasing anticancer drugs efficacy. This study aims at co-encapsulation of Paclitaxel with Naringin in mixed polymeric micelles for enhanced anticancer activity of the drug. Drug-loaded micelles were prepared using two different amphiphilic block co-polymers and were characterized for morphology, size, zeta potential, drug encapsulation, in vitro release and stability using atomic force microscope (AFM), zetasizer, UV spectrophotometer, and FT-IR. MTT assay and fluorescence microscopy were used for in vitro cytotoxicity and cellular uptake studies. Nano-size micelles with spherical morphology and negative charge encapsulated 76.52?±?0.94% and 32.87 0.61% Paclitaxel and Naringin, respectively. The micelles were thermally stable and retained 87.05?±?0.69% and 92.88?±?2.17% Paclitaxel and Naringin upon one-month storage. Maximum drug release was achieved at fourth hour of the study for both the loaded drugs. Paclitaxel co-encapsulation with Naringin synergistically improved its intracellular uptake and 65% in vitro cytotoxicity against breast cancer cells was achieved at its lower dose of 15?µg/mL. Results suggest that co-encapsulation of Paclitaxel with Naringin in mixed micelles is an effective strategy for achieving its higher anticancer activity.  相似文献

The objective of this paper is to solve the timefractional Schr?dinger and coupled Schr?dinger differential equations (TFSE) with appropriate initial conditions by using the Haar wavelet approximation. For the most part, this endeavor is made to enlarge the pertinence of the Haar wavelet method to solve a coupled system of time-fractional partial differential equations. As a general rule, piecewise constant approximation of a function at different resolutions is presentational characteristic of Haar wavelet method through which it converts the differential equation into the Sylvester equation that can be further simplified easily. Study of the TFSE is theoretical and experimental research and it also helps in the development of automation science, physics, and engineering as well. Illustratively, several test problems are discussed to draw an effective conclusion, supported by the graphical and tabulated results of included examples, to reveal the proficiency and adaptability of the method.   相似文献

Approximate triple modular redundancy (ATMR) is sought for logic masking of soft errors while effectuating lower area overhead than conventional TMR through the introduction of approximate modules. However, the use of approximate modules instigates reduced fault coverage in ATMR. In this work, we target better design tradeoffs in ATMR by proposing a heuristic method that effectively utilizes a threshold for unprotected input vectors to generate good enough combinations of approximate modules for ATMR, which accomplishes higher fault coverage and reduced area overhead compared with previously proposed approaches. The key concept is to employ logic optimization techniques of prime implicant (PI) expansion and reduction for successively obtaining approximate modules such that the combination of three approximate modules appropriately functions as an ATMR. For an ATMR to function appropriately, blocking is used to ensure that at each input vector, through the prime implicant (PI) expansion and reduction technique, only one approximate module differ from the original circuit. For large circuits, clustering is utilized and comparative analysis indicates that higher fault coverage is attained through the proposed ATMR scheme while preserving the characteristic feature of reduced area overhead. With a small percentage of unprotected input vectors, we achieved substantial decrease in transistor count and greater fault detection, i.e., an improvement of up to 26.1% and 42.1%, respectively.  相似文献
