Influence of Whey Protein Addition and Feed Moisture Content on Chosen Physicochemical Properties of Directly Expanded Corn Extrudates

Production of extrudates from cereals is an often-used technological process in today’s world food industry. Extrudates from corn flour produced using the twin-screw extrusion process and enriched with whey protein concentrate represent high-quality source of proteins and fats. Whey protein concentrate (WPC) as a valuable source of proteins and minerals is one of the highest-quality components for possible extrudate enrichment. In this paper, the influence of various WPC addition and some extrusion process parameters such as feed moisture content ( Q_{\textH\text2 \textO} Q_{{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}} ) on physicochemical properties of directly expanded corn flour extrudates manufactured in twin-screw co-rotating extruder was investigated. Whey protein concentrate was added in the following ratios 7.5%, 15% and 22.5% and water in 10.08, 12.18 and 14.28 L/h. Final composition of products is determined with measuring of protein, fat and water shares, water absorption index (WAI) and water solubility index (WSI). With added WPC and with increase of water volume flow, there was a significant rise in total protein, fat and water content in final products, as well as lowering of WSI and rising of WAI indexes. The statistical analysis of the obtained data shows that the lowest WSI and the highest WAI had samples with the largest share of WPC (22.5%) and water volume flow of 14.28 L/h. Colour is measured for each sample, and results were represented with hue angle (H), chroma (C) and lightness (L) values. Process parameters, WPC and Q_{\textH\text2 \textO} Q_{{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}} influence the increase of saturation of C and lightness of L colour value, while H value stays unchanged. Mean value of H was 90.14 ± 1.06, which corresponds to dominance of yellow colour of samples.     

Perceptions of stranger and acquaintance rape: The role of benevolent and hostile sexism in victim blame and rape proclivity.

In Studies 1 and 2, after reading an acquaintance-rape but not a stranger-rape scenario, higher benevolent sexist but not hostile sexist participants blamed the victim significantly more. In Study 2, higher hostile sexist but not benevolent sexist male participants showed significantly greater proclivity to commit acquaintance (but not stranger) rape. Studies 3 and 4 supported the hypothesis that the effects of benevolent sexism and hostile sexism are mediated by different perceptions of the victim, as behaving inappropriately and as really wanting sex with the rapist. These findings show that benevolent sexism and hostile sexism underpin different assumptions about women that generate sexist reactions toward rape victims. Reliability assessment of a stand-alone wind-hydrogen energy conversion system based on thermal analysis

Due to the stochastic behavior of the wind speed, accessing the wind energy would be problematic in some critical moments. One feasible solution lies in the use of wind turbines to produce hydrogen through an electrolyzer and by using wind-hydrogen hybrid systems. However, many of the issues related to these systems should be investigated to make landmark decisions about their performance. For instance, there is a lack of study on the reliability assessment of the wind-hydrogen systems; for this purpose, the main objective of this study is to evaluate the reliability of a stand-alone wind-hydrogen energy conversion system unconnected to the grid. The proposed system consists of two major parts: the rectifier and the buck converter. The primary task of the rectifier is to rectify the wind turbine output voltage to a constant DC voltage. Additionally, the buck converter is responsible to reduce the voltage level to a 48 V voltage, which meets the voltage requirement of the 3.6 kW electrolyzer. The results of the performed simulations showed that the rectifier is under more thermal stresses than the buck converter. The predicted mean time to failure (MTTF) of the hybrid system is approximately 7.6 years, and this estimation can affect the maintenance and refurbishment costs.

This paper provides a perspective on the increasingly critical role that systems analysis and process control play in bioprocess development today. This is of particular importance to the manufacturers of biotech therapeutics since the product quality is critical and depends on the process and its control. Because a large number of process variables and raw materials can influence the overall outcome of a bioprocess, the correct determination of the process trajectory is often an intensive exercise. A follow‐up involving design of a suitable process control strategy for implementation of process conditions would be logical. However, such an exercise can no longer consider each unit operation one at a time but rather requires holistic inclusion of all upstream and downstream unit operations for successfully meeting the global standards laid down by various regulatory agencies by exploring the potential of process analytical technology (PAT) to achieve bigger objectives.
