In the first part, the present paper presents a quantitative analysis of physics publications in the domain of experimental particle physics, before the Second World War in the field of cosmic rays physics and for the modern times in the field of accelerator and collision rings experiments. In the second part, a more general study is made on publications in the various fields of physics separating contributions from experiment, theory and techniques. For a given $\theta \in (a,b)$ , we investigate the question whether there exists a positive quadrature formula with maximal degree of precision which has the prescribed abscissa $\theta $ plus possibly $a$ and/or $b$ , the endpoints of the interval of integration. This study relies on recent results on the location of roots of quasi-orthogonal polynomials. The event detection problem, which is closely related to clustering, has gained a lot of attentions within event detection for textual documents. However, although image clustering is a problem that has been treated extensively in both Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) and Text-Based Image Retrieval (TBIR) systems, event detection within image management is a relatively new area. Having this in mind, we propose a novel approach for event extraction and clustering of images, taking into account textual annotations, time and geographical positions. Our goal is to develop a clustering method based on the fact that an image may belong to an event cluster. Here, we stress the necessity of having an event clustering and cluster extraction algorithm that are both scalable and allow online applications. To achieve this, we extend a well-known clustering algorithm called Suffix Tree Clustering (STC), originally developed to cluster text documents using document snippets. The idea is that we consider an image along with its annotation as a document. Further, we extend it to also include time and geographical position so that we can capture the contextual information from each image during the clustering process. This has appeared to be particularly useful on images gathered from online photo-sharing applications such as Flickr. Hence, our STC-based approach is aimed at dealing with the challenges induced by capturing contextual information from Flickr images and extracting related events. We evaluate our algorithm using different annotated datasets mainly gathered from Flickr. As part of this evaluation we investigate the effects of using different parameters, such as time and space granularities, and compare these effects. In addition, we evaluate the performance of our algorithm with respect to mining events from image collections. Our experimental results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of our STC-based algorithm in extracting and clustering events.  相似文献

In static scenarios, binaural sound localization is fundamentally limited by front-back ambiguity and distance non-observability. Over the past few years, “active” schemes have been shown to overcome these shortcomings, by combining spatial binaural cues with the motor commands of the sensor. In this context, given a Gaussian prior on the relative position to a source, this paper determines an admissible motion of a binaural head which leads, on average, to the one-step-ahead most informative audio-motor localization. To this aim, a constrained optimization problem is set up, which consists in maximizing the entropy of the next predicted measurement probability density function over a cylindric admissible set. The method is appraised through geometrical arguments, and validated in simulations and on real-life robotic experiments.  相似文献

Pomegranate peels and seeds are industrial residues considered interesting sources of punicalagin (PU) and punicic acid (PA), respectively. To optimise their extraction process and protect them against environmental factors, pomegranate residues were extracted with supercritical CO2 (SC‐CO2) using a Box–Behnken design and then optimal extracts encapsulated by spray‐drying applying a 22 central composite design. Peel extracts showed a PU content of 0.4–9.5% with optimal extraction conditions of 400 bar, 43 °C and 20% ethanol. On the other hand, SC‐CO2 seed extracts showed a PA content of 65.1–78.4% with 450 bar, 48 °C and 10% ethanol as optimal extraction parameters. Otherwise, the encapsulation efficiency of SC‐CO2 extracts was significantly affected by core/wall material ratio and its quadratic effect. This parameter ranged from 35.1% to 72.4% for peel extracts and from 68.2% to 92.7% for seed extracts. Results showed that the proposed technologies are a feasible approach to the integral utilisation of residues from the pomegranate industry.  相似文献

The mammalian prefrontal cortex receives a dense cholinergic innervation from subcortical regions. We previously have shown that cholinergic stimulation of layer V pyramidal neurons of the rat prefrontal cortex results in a depolarization and the appearance of a slow afterdepolarization (sADP). In the current report we examine the mechanism underlying the sADP with the use of sharp microelectrode and whole cell recording techniques in in vitro brain slices. The ability of acetylcholine (ACh) and carbachol to induce the appearance of an sADP in pyramidal cells of layer V of prefrontal cortex is antagonized in a surmountable manner by atropine and is mimicked by application of muscarine or oxotremorine. These results indicate that ACh acts on muscarinic receptors to induce the sADP. In many cell types afterpotentials are triggered by calcium influx into the cell. Therefore we examined the possibility that calcium influx might be the trigger for the generation of the sADP. Consistent with this possibility, buffering intracellular calcium reduced or abolished the sADP but had little effect on the direct muscarinic receptor-induced depolarization also seen in these cells. These results, coupled to the previous observation that calcium channel blockers inhibit the sADP, indicated that the sADP results from a rise in intracellular calcium secondary to calcium influx into the cell. The ionic basis for the current underlying the sADP (IsADP) was examined with the use of ion substitution experiments. The amplitude of IsADP was found to be reduced in a graded fashion by replacement of extracellular sodium with N-methyl-D-glucamine (NMDG). In contrast no clear evidence for the involvement of potassium or chloride channels in the generation of the sADP or IsADP could be found. This result indicated that IsADP is carried by sodium ions flowing into the cell. However, the dependence of IsADP on extracellular sodium was less pronounced than expected for a pure sodium current. We interpret these results to indicate that the sADP is most likely mediated by nonselective cation channels. Examination of the current underlying the sADP at different voltages indicated that this current was also voltage dependent, turning off with hyperpolarization. We conclude that the sADP elicited by muscarinic receptor activation in rat cortex is mediated predominantly by a calcium- and voltage-sensitive nonselective cation current. This current could represent an important mechanism through which ACh can regulate neuronal excitability in prefrontal cortex.  相似文献

A method for imaging biological samples by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) is presented. There are two main difficulties in imaging biological samples by STM: (1) the low conductivity of biological material and (2) finding a method of reliably depositing the sample on a flat conducting surface. The first of these difficulties was solved by coating the samples with a thin film of platinum-carbon. The deposition problem was solved by a method similar to a procedure used to deposit biological molecules onto field ion microscope (FIM) tips. STM images of bacteriophage T7 and filamentous phage fd are shown. The substrate on which the samples were absorbed was atomically flat gold. The images do not show molecular detail due to the metal coating, but the gross dimensions and morphology are correct for each type of virus. Also, the surface density of virus particles increases and decreases in the way expected when the conditions of deposition are changed. These methods allow reliable and reproducible STM imaging of biological samples.  相似文献
