The goal of the GUARDS project is to design and develop a generic fault-tolerant computer architecture that can be built from predefined standardised components. The architecture favours the use of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and software components. However, the assessment and selection of COTS components is a non-trivial task as it requires balancing a myriad of requirements from end-users and the preliminary architecture design. In this paper, we present the requirements and assessment criteria for a specific COTS software component, the operating system kernel. As an interface specification constitutes a major compatibility criterion for the selection of COTS components in GUARDS, a particular emphasis is placed on operating system conformance to the POSIX 1003.1 standard. We discuss the general lessons learned from the assessment process and raise a number of questions relevant to the assessment of any COTS software component.  相似文献

Due to the widespread use of wood-plastic composites (WPCs), high-density polyethylene-wood flour composites (HDPE/WF) were studied in order to determine their stability in different application conditions. UV degradation and periodic absorption/desorption of moisture cause damaging changes to material during WPCs’ exterior application, so it is necessary to ensure WPCs’ durability against atmospheric influences. Samples were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in order to study the degradation after simulated weathering. The degree of water absorption was also determined. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used for the determination of composites’ thermal properties. Results show that the stability of the HDPE/WF composites to UV treatment highly depends on stabilizer content and its dispersion in the polymer matrix. Incompatibility of HDPE and wood particles is a major problem that should be solved to achieve good durability and satisfying properties in use.  相似文献

Fish, cephalopods and shellfish provide a healthy source of high-quality proteins, essential vitamins, minerals and polyunsaturated fatty acids. The beneficial effects of fish consumption on human health such as protection against coronary heart disease and certain cancer may be offset by fish decomposition and the formation of chemical contaminants such as biogenic amines. There are several toxicological effects of biogenic amines on humans, especially histamine. It is the causative agent of histamine or scombroid fish poisoning which is a significant public health problem. In individuals with diminished histamine detoxification, ingestion of even a low or moderate histamine- or tyramine-containing fish may lead to food intolerance. Biogenic amines such as putrescine, tyramine and cadaverine can potentiate histamine toxicity. Furthermore, dietary polyamine intake should be minimised in some cancer patients. Besides their potential toxicity, biogenic amines are used for the evaluation of hygienic quality of different marine and freshwater species. Spoilage pattern and biogenic amine formation are species specific. Histamine has been traditionally used as an indicator of the quality of histidine-rich fish (dark-muscle fish). On the other hand, putrescine and cadaverine are the most objective indicators of quality of histidine-poor fish (white-muscle fish), shellfish and fermented seafood products.  相似文献

The properties of styrene–acrylonitrile (SAN) and ethylene–propylene–diene (EPDM) blends containing different types of calcium carbonate filler were studied. The influence of mixing type process on the blend properties was also studied. Two different mixing processes were used. The first one includes mixing of all components together. The other process is a two‐step mixing procedure: masterbatch (MB; EPDM/SAN/filler blend) was prepared and then it was mixed with previously prepared polymer blend. Surface energy of samples was determined to predict the strength of interactions between polymer blend components and used fillers. The phase morphology of blends and their thermal and mechanical properties were studied. From the results, it can be concluded that the type of mixing process has a strong influence on the morphological, thermal, and mechanical properties of blends. The two‐step mixing process causes better dispersion of fillers in blends as well as better dispersion of EPDM in SAN matrix, and therefore, the finest morphology and improved properties are observed in blends with MB. It can be concluded that the type of mixing process and carefully chosen compatibilizer are the important factors for obtaining the improved compatibility of SAN/EPDM blends. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Whole Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus), sardine (Sardina pilchardus) and Mediterranean hake (Merluccius merluccius) from the Croatian Adriatic were stored at 22 °C and changes in histamine, putrescine, tyramine and cadaverine levels were monitored in relation to bacterial endotoxin. After 12 h, histamine levels in sardine were above the legal limit of 50 mg kg?1, set by the US Food and Drug Administration, and an increase in putrescine content preceded the increase in histamine. After 24 h, histamine contents in mackerel and sardine reached 1090 ± 101 and 577 ± 275 mg kg?1, respectively, which exceeded the toxic threshold of 500 mg kg?1. At the same time, the putrescine content was also high in both fish (353–420 mg kg?1). The time-course of endotoxin production was similar in all fish species stored at 22 °C. A high correlation was found between endotoxin and histamine, and between endotoxin and putrescine in mackerel and sardine. On the other hand, high endotoxin levels in hake, after 24 h, were associated with the low histamine and putrescine content (40–60 mg kg?1).  相似文献

Seeds of common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) were soaked in water, sodium selenate (5, 10 or 20 mg SeVI/L), or sodium selenite (10 or 20 mg SeIV/L) solutions. Plants grown from soaked seeds were exposed to reduced UV-B radiation, ambient, or enhanced UV-B. The mass fraction of selenium in leaves was much higher in plants obtained from seeds soaked with selenate (up to 185 ng/g) in comparison to selenite (up to 103 ng/g). In plants obtained from seeds soaked in water, regardless of UV-B levels, the highest concentration of selenium was found in leaves, where the values were between 45 and 66 ng Se/g. In buckwheat leaves 44.5–63.6 mg/100 g d.m. of fagopyrin was found, and in stems 14.3–26.4 mg/100 g d.m.; here no influence of seed soaking solution or UV-B exposure was found. The content of total flavonoids in leaves was 7.8–15.9% and in stems 1.4–4.1%.  相似文献

The influence of the initial reactant concentrations on the composition of the solid phases formed in the precipitation system MgCl(2)-NH(4)H(2)PO(4)-NaOH-H(2)O was investigated. The precipitation diagram constructed shows the approximate concentration regions within which struvite, newberyite, and their mixtures exist at 25 degrees C and an aging time of 60 min. It was found that immediately after mixing the reactant solutions, struvite (MgNH(4)PO(4).6H(2)O) precipitated in nearly the whole concentration area, while newberyite (MgHPO(4).3H(2)O) appeared mostly within the region of the excess of magnesium concentration. It was also found that after aging time of 60 min the precipitation domain of struvite alone is much broader than that of newberyite or the domain of their coexistence, and shows that struvite is more abundant in the systems in which the initial concentration of ammonium phosphate is higher than that of magnesium. The kinetics of struvite to newberyite transformation (conversion) was systematically studied under the conditions of different initial reactant concentrations and different initial pH in the systems in which a mixture of both phases precipitated spontaneously. The struvite to newberyite conversion period was found to be strongly related to the ratio of initial supersaturations, S(N)/S(S), rather than to the any particular physical quantity that can describe and predict the behavior of the precipitation system. Experimental data suggest a solution-mediated process as a most possible transformation mechanism. Along with a continuous monitoring of the changes in the liquid phase, the content of struvite in the solid phase was estimated by means of a Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) method, developed for this particular precipitation system.  相似文献

Crown ethers are of enormous interest and importance in chemistry, biochemistry, materials science, catalysis, separation, transport and encapsulated processes, as well as in the design and synthesis of various synthetic systems with specific properties, diverse capabilities, and programmable functions. Classical crown ethers are macrocyclic polyethers that contain 3-20 oxygen atoms separated from each other by two or more carbon atoms. They are exceptionally versatile in selectively binding a range of metal ions and a variety of organic neutral and ionic species. Crown ethers are currently being studied and used in a variety of applications beyond their traditional place in chemistry. This review presents additional applications and the ever-increasing biomedical potentials of these intriguing compounds, with particular emphasis on the prospects of their relevance as anticancer agents. We believe that further research in this direction should be encouraged, as crown compounds could either induce toxicities that are different from those of conventional antitumor drugs, or complement drugs in current use, thereby providing a valuable adjunct to therapy.  相似文献

The influence of Zn-dopant on the precipitation of α-FeOOH in highly alkaline media was monitored by X-ray diffraction (XRD), 57Fe Mössbauer and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopies and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE SEM). Acicular and monodisperse α-FeOOH particles were precipitated at a very high pH by adding a tetramethylammonium hydroxide solution to an aqueous solution of FeCl3. The XRD analysis of the samples precipitated in the presence of Zn2+ ions showed the formation of solid solutions of α-(Fe, Zn)OOH up to a concentration ratio r = [Zn]/([Zn] + [Fe]) = 0.0909. ZnFe2O4 was additionally formed in the precipitate for r = 0.1111, whereas the three phases α-FeOOH, α-Fe2O3 and ZnFe2O4 were formed for r = 0.1304. In the corresponding FT-IR spectra, the FeOH and FeO stretching bands were sensitive to the Zn2+ substitution, whereas the FeOH bending bands of α-FeOOH at 892 and 796 cm−1 were almost insensitive. The Mössbauer spectra showed a high sensitivity to the formation of α-(Fe, Zn)OOH solid solutions which were monitored on the basis of a decrease in Bhf values in dependence on Zn-doping. A strictly linear decrease in Bhf for α-FeOOH doped with Zn2+ ions was measured up to r = 0.0291, whereas for r = 0.0476 and higher there was a deviation from linearity. The presence of α-(Fe, Zn)OOH, α-Fe2O3 and ZnFe2O4 phases in the samples was determined quantitatively by Mössbauer spectroscopy. Likewise, Mössbauer spectroscopy did not show any formation of the solid solutions of α-Fe2O3 with Zn2+ ions. FE SEM showed a strong effect of Zn-doping on the elongation of acicular α-FeOOH particles (500–700 nm in length) up to r = 0.1111. For r = 0.1304 the sizes of ZnFe2O4 particles were around 30–50 nm, and those of α-Fe2O3 particles were around 500 nm, whereas a relatively small number of very elongated α-(Fe, Zn)OOH particles was observed. A possible mechanism of the formation of α-(Fe, Zn)OOH, α-Fe2O3 and ZnFe2O4 particles was suggested.  相似文献

Requirements for adequate permeability of polymeric materials to gases and vapors, good barrier and mechanical properties of polymers have boosted interest in developing new strategies to improve these properties. Research and development in polymeric materials coupled with appropriate filler, matrix-filler interaction and new formulation strategies to develop composites have potential applications in various types of packaging (agricultural produce, dried food, frozen food etc.). In this study, LDPE composites containing various types of fillers (zeolite TMAZ 7, nanoclay Cloisite 20A and precipitated calcium carbonate, CaCO3) were prepared using extrusion/injection molding. The microstructural and morphological changes as well as mechanical features of samples were characterized by scanning electronic microscopy and by tensile tests. The thermal degradation of LDPE composites was studied using thermogravimetric analysis. Barrier properties (permeability, the diffusion and the solubility constant) in modified LDPE samples were determined. It is found that used minor clay concentration is already very effective for achievement of good morphology. In the presence of nanoparticles, at lower content, the value of oxygen permeability of LDPE decreases. Also, the results have revealed that the samples containing fillers have increased thermal stability in comparison to pure LDPE.  相似文献
