ABSTRACT

Cadmium as a highly toxic metal is released into the environment through paper production, metal processing, phosphate fertilizers, insecticides, and treatment of wastewater. Cadmium also inhibits the body activities and is very toxic for kidney and other organisms. In the current study, zinc-based metal–organic framework, zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF)-8, was synthesized and modified by dimethylethylenediamine (ZIF-8-mmen) for the removal of cadmium. To optimize the experiments, response surface methodology was applied with three variables including pH, adsorbent dosage, and contact time using central composite design. The optimum conditions for pH, dosage, and time were 2, 0.1 g, and 89 min, respectively, with removal efficiency of 85.38%. The Langmuir isotherm (q m = 1000 mg/g) indicates the monolayer adsorption. The kinetic studies reveal that the Lagergren model was predominant and cadmium was not chemisorbed. Thermodynamic parameters show spontaneous, endothermic, and physisorption processes.  相似文献

The performance of several noise reduction algorithms intended for wideband telephony was evaluated both subjectively and objectively. The chosen algorithms were based on statistical modeling, spectral subtraction, Wiener filtering, or subspace modelling principles. A customized wideband noise reduction database containing speech samples corrupted by three types of background noises at three SNR levels, along with their enhanced versions was created. The overall quality of the speech samples in the database was subsequently rated by a group of listeners with normal hearing capabilities. Comprehensive statistical analyses were performed to assess the reliability of the subjective data, and to assess the performance of noise reduction algorithms across varied noisy conditions. The subjective quality ratings were then used to investigate the performance of several auditory model-based objective quality metrics. Key results from these investigations include: (a) there was a high degree of inter- and intra-subject reliability in the subjective ratings, (b) noise reduction algorithms enhance speech quality for only a subset of the noise conditions, and (c) auditory model-based metrics perform similarly in predicting speech quality ratings, when speech quality scores pertaining to a particular noise condition were averaged.  相似文献

Abstract— The development of a flexible, rewritable, non‐volatile memory (NVM) that is implemented on a standard, low‐temperature a‐Si:H process without additional mask steps is reported. This NVM is a part of a flexible‐display system. Each NVM cell is composed of differentially configured thin‐film‐transistors (TFTs). The cell reads out one of two stable states depending on the relative threshold voltages of the differentially configured TFTs. Information is stored in each cell by increasing the threshold voltage of one differential TFT or the other, utilizing the well‐known electrical‐stress degradation intrinsic to a‐Si:H TFTs. The stored information is retained indefinitely with no applied power. A test array of individually addressable NVM cells has been successfully fabricated and tested on flexible stainless‐steel substrates. Read and write operation, as well as preliminary reliability measurements, are described. The design is readily scalable to large memory arrays.  相似文献

In recent years, grid technology has had such a fast growth that it has been used in many scientific experiments and research centers. A large number of storage elements and computational resources are combined to generate a grid which gives us shared access to extra computing power. In particular, data grid deals with data intensive applications and provides intensive resources across widely distributed communities. Data replication is an efficient way for distributing replicas among the data grids, making it possible to access similar data in different locations of the data grid. Replication reduces data access time and improves the performance of the system. In this paper, we propose a new dynamic data replication algorithm named PDDRA that optimizes the traditional algorithms. Our proposed algorithm is based on an assumption: members in a VO (Virtual Organization) have similar interests in files. Based on this assumption and also file access history, PDDRA predicts future needs of grid sites and pre-fetches a sequence of files to the requester grid site, so the next time that this site needs a file, it will be locally available. This will considerably reduce access latency, response time and bandwidth consumption. PDDRA consists of three phases: storing file access patterns, requesting a file and performing replication and pre-fetching and replacement. The algorithm was tested using a grid simulator, OptorSim developed by European Data Grid projects. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithm has better performance in comparison with other algorithms in terms of job execution time, effective network usage, total number of replications, hit ratio and percentage of storage filled.  相似文献

In the reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) model, the mean values of uncertain variables are usually applied as design variables, and the cost is optimized subject to prescribed probabilistic constraints as defined by a nonlinear mathematical programming problem. Therefore, an RBDO solution that reduces the structural weight in non-critical regions provides not only an improved design, but also a higher level of confidence in the design. Solving such nested optimization problems is extremely expensive for large-scale multidisciplinary systems that are likewise computationally intensive. This article focuses on the study of a particular problem representing the failure mode of structural vibration analysis. A new method is proposed, called safest point, that can efficiently give the reliability-based optimum solution under frequency constraints, and then several probability distributions are developed, which are mathematically nonlinear functions, for the proposed method. Finally, the efficiency of the extended approach is demonstrated for probability distributions such as log-normal and uniform distributions, and its applicability to the design of structures undergoing fluid–structure interaction phenomena, especially the design process of aeroelastic structures, is also demonstrated.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to suggest and examine a PI–fuzzy path planner and associated low-level control system for a linear discrete dynamic model of omni-directional mobile robots to obtain optimal inputs for drivers. Velocity and acceleration filtering is also implemented in the path planner to satisfy planning prerequisites and prevent slippage. Regulated drivers’ rotational velocities and torques greatly affect the ability of these robots to perform trajectory planner tasks. These regulated values are examined in this research by setting up an optimal controller. Introducing optimal controllers such as linear quadratic tracking for multi-input–multi-output control systems in acceleration and deceleration is one of the essential subjects for motion control of omni-directional mobile robots. The main topics presented and discussed in this article are improvements in the presented discrete-time linear quadratic tracking approach such as the low-level controller and combined PI–fuzzy path planner with appropriate speed monitoring algorithm such as the high-level one in conditions both with and without external disturbance. The low-level tracking controller presented in this article provides an optimal solution to minimize the differences between the reference trajectory and the system output. The efficiency of this approach is also compared with that of previous PID controllers which employ kinematic modeling. Utilizing the new approach in trajectory-planning controller design results in more precise and appropriate outputs for the motion of four-wheeled omni-directional mobile robots, and the modeling and experimental results confirm this issue.  相似文献

There is a paucity of data in respect of the nutritional quality of complementary foods for infants and young children aged between 6 and 12 months. The primary objective of this study was to examine nutritive values of such complementary infant food on the UK market in order to ascertain their suitability relative to dietary guidelines for the 6–9 months age group. Quantitative analyses were conducted on eight different products representing four popular brands (meat and vegetable based) currently on sale in the UK. Eight major mineral and trace elements, namely: calcium, copper, magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium, sodium and selenium were measured by ICP–OES and ICP–MS. The results of these studies were referenced to the Recommended Nutrient Intake (RNI) values for 6–9 months old children, and a menu of entire daily intake of minerals and trace elements was composed taking into consideration the nutrient and energy intake from milk consumption. Based on these comparisons, all the food samples studied in this work contained less essential minerals than expected from the RNI values except for potassium in meat and vegetable based recipes. These results suggest that commercial complementary infant foods on the UK market may not contain the minimum levels of minerals required for the labelling declaration of micronutrient content (Commission Directive 2006/125/EC). This provides opportunities and scope for product optimisation to improve their nutritive value.  相似文献

Iron‐oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) have been widely favoured due to their biodegradable, low cytotoxic effects and having reactive surface which can be altered with biocompatible coatings. Considering various medical applications of IONPs, the authors were encouraged to study whether IONPs could be effective against fungal infections caused by Candida species. In this study, IONPs were characterised by scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer. The goal of this study was to evaluate the antifungal activity of IONPs against different Candida spp. compared with fluconazole (FLC). IONPs were spherical with the size of 30–40 nm. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) values of IONPs ranged from 62.5 to 500 µg/ml and 500 to 1000 μg/ml, respectively. The MIC and MFC of FLC were in range of 16–128 μg/ml and 64–512 μg/ml, respectively. The growth inhibition value indicated that Candida tropicalis, Candida albicans and Candida glabrata spp. were most susceptible to IONPs.
