Thermoplastic segmented polyurethane and polyurea copolymers whose monodisperse hard segments are based on only a single diisocyanate molecule are discussed. The solid-state structure-property behavior of these materials demonstrates that a proper selection of the level of symmetry and/or cohesiveness of the hard microdomains may allow elimination of the traditional requirement of chain extension to obtain melt processable segmented urethanes, and more specifically, urea copolymers with useful structural properties. 相似文献
Poly(ethylene aspartate) [PEA] was synthesized by the melt condensation of D,L-aspartic acid and ethylene glycol. PEA containing pendent amino and carbonyl groups in its repeating chain was used as the polymeric ligand for complexation with transition metal ions, viz. Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Mn(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Ca(II), Mg(II), Pb(II) and Hg(II). Complexation was found to be most effective in DMSO. The resulting polyester-metal complexes were solid coloured materials which have been characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The thermal stability of the polyester-metal complexes was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). On the basis of the physico-chemical studies, an oxygen and nitrogen coordinated structure for the polyester-metal complexes is proposed. 相似文献
Due to technology scaling and increasing clock frequency, problems due to noise effects lead to an increase in design/debugging efforts and a decrease in circuit performance. This paper addresses the problem of efficiently and accurately generating two-vector tests for crosstalk induced effects, such as pulses, signal speedup and slowdown, in digital combinational circuits. These noise effects can propagate through a circuit and create a logic error in a latch or at a primary output. We have developed a mixed-signal test generator, called XGEN, that incorporates classical static values as well as dynamic signals such as transitions and pulses, and timing information such as signal arrival times, rise/fall times, and gate delay. In this paper we first discuss the general framework of the test generation algorithm followed by computational results. Comparison of results with SPICE simulations confirms the accuracy of this approach. 相似文献
Many companies, organizations and communities are providing wireless hotspots that provide networking access using 802.11b wireless networks. Since wireless networks are more sensitive to variations
in bandwidth and environmental interference than wired networks, most networks support a number of transmission rates that
have different error and bandwidth properties. Access points can communicate with multiple clients running at different rates,
but this leads to unfair bandwidth allocation. If an access point communicates with a mix of clients using both 1 Mb/s and
11 Mb/s transmission rates, the faster clients are effectively throttled to 1 Mb/s as well. This happens because the 802.11
MAC protocol approximate “station fairness”, with each station given an equal chance to access the media. We provide a solution
to provide “rate proportional fairness”, where the 11 Mb/s stations receive more bandwidth than the 1 Mb/s stations. Unlike
previous solutions to this problem, our mechanism is easy to implement, works with common operating systems and requires no
change to the MAC protocol or the stations.

Michael Neufeld received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder in December of 2004, having previously received
an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2000 and an A.B. in Computer Science from Princeton
University in 1993. His research interests are in the general area of computer system, specifically concentrating on wireless
networking, software defind/cognitive radio, and streerable antennas. He is currently a postdoc in the Computer Science department
at the University of Calorado at Boulder pursuing research related to software defined radio and new MAC protocols for steerable
phase array antennas.
Anmol Sheth is a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He received his B.S. in Computer Science
from the University of Pune, India in 2001. He has been co-leading the development of the MANTIS operating system. He has
co-authored three papers include MAC layer protocol design, energy-efficient wireless communication, and adapting communications
to mobility.
Dirk Grunwald received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1989 and joined the University of Colorado the same year. His work
addresses research and teaching in the broad area of “computer systems”, which includes computer architecture, operating systems,
networks, and storage systems. His interests also include issues in pervasive computing, novel computing models, and enjoying
the mountains. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and in Electrical and Computer
Engineering and is also the Director of the Colorado Center for Information Storage.
John Bennett is a Professor of Computer Science with a joint appointment in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Colorado
at Boulder. He also serves as Associate Dean for Education in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. He joined the
CU-Boulder faculty in 2000, after serving on the faculty of Rice University for 11 years. While at Rice, Bennett pioneered
a course in engineering design for both engineering and non-engineering students that has been emulated at several universities
and high schools. In addition to other teaching awards, Bennett received the Keck Foundation National Award for Engineering
Teaching Excellence for his work on this course. Bennett received his Ph.D. in 1988 from the University of Washington. Prior
to completing his doctoral studies, he was a U.S. Naval Officer for several years and founded and served as President of Pacific
Mountain Research, Inc., where he supervised the design and development of a number of commercial computing systems. Bennett's
primary research interests are broadly focused in the area of distributed systems, and more narrowly in distributed information

INTRODUCTION: Phacoemulsification and falls are both common in the elderly population. We present a case of acquired total aniridia and vitreous haemorrhage occurring as a result of trauma in a pseudophakic eye. METHODS: Interventional case report with history, clinical photograph and discussion with literature review. RESULTS: A previously healthy 74-year-old Caucasian female was referred with a painful left eye and poor vision following a fall and trauma to the left side of her face. Initial examination confirmed visual acuity of perception of light with total hyphaema and vitreous haemorrhage. Subsequent examination revealed complete aniridia with an intact capsular bag and well-centred posterior chamber intraocular lens and attached retina. Final visual acuity after treatment was 6/9. CONCLUSIONS: Blunt trauma may cause total iris disinsertion in and expulsion from pseudophakic eyes. This relatively novel injury may present increasingly commonly to casualty departments and ophthalmologists. 相似文献
Prostaglandins act through specific receptors to stimulate cyclic AMP formation which inhibits platelet activation and relaxes vascular smooth muscle. We have used RT-PCR combined with Southern blot analysis to determine the subtypes of prostaglandin receptor on platelets. Platelets expressed the EP4 rather than the EP2 prostaglandin EP receptor subtype, whereas vascular smooth muscle cells predominantly expressed the EP2 receptor. The IP receptor, which binds prostacyclin and couples to stimulation of adenylyl cyclase, and three isoforms of the inhibitory EP3 receptor were equally expressed in platelets, HEL cells and umbilical artery smooth muscle cells. The EP3-II isoform showed variation in level of expression among the three cell types. As a positive control for the presence of platelet RNA, PCR was performed using primers specific for the alpha chain of the platelet membrane glycoprotein Ib. As a negative control for the absence of T and B cell contamination in the platelet RNA, PCR was performed using primers specific for the cell specific cluster determinants CD2 (a T-cell marker) and CD20 (a B-cell marker). The finding that platelets express both stimulatory and inhibitory prostaglandin receptors provides confirmation of a homeostatic model of regulation of platelet adenylyl cyclase previously proposed. 相似文献

This is one of the most prominent objective functions that has been studied with respect to clustering. D2-sampling (Arthur and Vassilvitskii, Proceedings of the Eighteenth Annual ACM-SIAM Symposium on Discrete Algorithms, SODA’07, pp. 1027–1035, SIAM, Philadelphia, 2007) is a simple non-uniform sampling technique for choosing points from a set of points. It works as follows: given a set of points \(P \subset\mathbb{R}^{d}\), the first point is chosen uniformly at random from P. Subsequently, a point from P is chosen as the next sample with probability proportional to the square of the distance of this point to the nearest previously sampled point. D2-sampling has been shown to have nice properties with respect to the k-means clustering problem. Arthur and Vassilvitskii (Proceedings of the Eighteenth Annual ACM-SIAM Symposium on Discrete Algorithms, SODA’07, pp. 1027–1035, SIAM, Philadelphia, 2007) show that k points chosen as centers from P using D2-sampling give an O(logk) approximation in expectation. The established analysis for the study of oxidation using powder specimens is based on the assumption of monosized particles. The experiments, however, are conducted on powders with a distributed particle size. Here we present a statistical approach for the calculation of the rate constant for oxidation. The results of the analysis are applied to new data on oxidation studies of dense powders of silicon carbonitride amorphous ceramics. The monosized model requires a wide range of values for the rate constant to fit the short term and the long-term data, leading to considerable ambiguity in the estimate of the parabolic rate constant, k p, for oxidation. In contrast the statistical model fits over the entire range of data, yielding a much more reliable value for k p. For example, the monosized approach gave a value in the range 19.7 × 10−18 < k p < 2.7 × 10−18 m2/s. In contrast, the statistical model yields a specific value of 4.5 × 10−18 m2/s. 相似文献
Biometric applications are very sensitive to the process because of its complexity in presenting unstructured input to the processing. The existing applications of image processing are based on the implementation of different programing segments such as image acquisition, segmentation, extraction, and final output. The proposed model is designed with 2 convolution layers and 3 dense layers. We examined the module with 5 datasets including 3 benchmark datasets, namely CASIA, UBIRIS, MMU, random dataset, and the live video. We calculated the FPR, FNR, Precision, Recall, and accuracy of each dataset. The calculated accuracy of CASIA using the proposed system is 82.8%, for UBIRIS is 86%, MMU is 84%, and the random dataset is 84%. On live video with low resolution, calculated accuracy is 72.4%. The proposed system achieved better accuracy compared to existing state-of-the-art systems.
Water or acid soaking surface treatments have been shown to increase the mechanical strength of soda-lime silicate (SLS) glasses. This increase in strength has traditionally been attributed to effects related to residual stress or changes in fracture resistance. In this work, we report experimental data that cannot be explained based on the existing knowledge of glass surface mechanics. In dry environments, annealed and acid-leached SLS surfaces have comparable crack initiation stress and fracture stress as measured by Hertzian indentation and biaxial bending tests, respectively. Yet, in the presence of humidity, acid-leached surfaces have higher failure stress than the annealed surfaces. This apparent enhancement in the crack resistance of the acid-leached surface of SLS glass in humid environments supports the hypothesis that acid-leached surface chemistry can lower the transport kinetics of molecular water to critical flaws. 相似文献
