Hydrocarbon impurities in SiF<Subscript>4</Subscript> and SiH<Subscript>4</Subscript> prepared from it

Using gas chromatography and high-resolution Fourier-transform IR spectroscopy, we have determined the concentrations of C₁–C₄ hydrocarbon impurities in isotopically unmodified silicon tetrafluoride before and after fine purification and in ²⁸Si-enriched SiF₄. The concentrations of C₁–C₄ hydrocarbon impurities in silicon tetrafluoride for SiH₄ synthesis have been shown to correlate with those in the synthesized silane.     

Thermochemical properties of solid solutions in the goethite — diaspore series

Thermochemical constants for specimens of alumogoethite and alumohematite are determined. Limited miscibility of solid solutions and their thermodynamic stability are shown. Determination of impurities in germanium tetrafluoride by IR spectroscopy and gas chromatography

Using high-resolution Fourier-transform IR spectroscopy and gas chromatography, we have identified more than 20 impurity species, in concentrations from 10⁻¹ to 10⁻⁵ vol %, in GeF₄ samples of different isotopic compositions. The germanium tetrafluoride samples are shown to contain C₁–C₄ hydrocarbons; hydrogen, carbon, silicon, and sulfur fluorides; fluorogermanes; fluorosilanes; and carbon and nitrogen oxides.     

Isotope-modified silicon layers obtained by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition from gaseous silicon tetrafluoride

Layers of silicon with an isotope composition that differs from the native composition have been obtained by the method of plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition from gaseous silicon tetrafluoride. The deposited layers possess an amorphous structure and high oxygen content. The Raman spectra and the spectra of optical transmission in the IR range are presented. The in-depth distribution of Si isotopes has been determined using the second ion mass spectrometry techniques.     

Clays of the Kholm deposit

A sample of Kholm clay was tested, and its composition and properties were determined. Laboratory and workability tests were carried out, and it was demonstrated that the clay is suitable for the manufacture of clay brick and tile. Obtaining gunite-bodies with the additions of the waste products of the aluminum industry

Conclusions We studied the possibility of using the waste products of the aluminum industry as additives for obtaining gunite-bodies. In order to carry out guniting of the electrolytic cells, we suggested the application of the lining-slag type systems and the systems based on corundum for improving the service life of the refractory lining of these units.Translated from Ogneupory, No. 1, pp. 8–10, January, 1990.     

Low-temperature bonding mortars

Several bonding mortars composed predominantly of Na₂O?B₂O₃?SiO₂ and Na₂O?Al₂O₃?SiO₂ were investigated. They serve to join refractories used in structures that operate cyclically at 900–1000°C, as in tunnel-kiln cars for the bisque firing of porcelain ware.     

Ultrapurification of <Superscript>76</Superscript>Ge-enriched GeH<Subscript>4</Subscript> by distillation

⁷⁶Ge-enriched germane has been ultrapurified by low-temperature distillation. The nature and concentration of molecular impurities in the germane samples were determined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, high-resolution Fourier transform IR spectroscopy, and gas chromatography. The distillate contains no more than 10⁻⁵ mol % hydrocarbons, 10⁻⁴ mol % carbon dioxide, 10⁻³ to 10⁻¹ mol % digermane and trigermane, and <3 × 10⁻⁵ mol % other impurities. A distinctive feature of the impurity composition of the isotopically enriched germane samples is the presence of silicon tetrafluoride and sulfur hexafluoride impurities.
