Phase Equilibrium in the System CrO2-Cr2O3

The CrO₂-Cr, O₃ equilibrium curve has been determined up to 35 kbars and 1400° C with a piston-cylinder apparatus. The phases were determined by magnetic, X-ray, and microscopic examination. The phase boundary can be represented by a straight line log P versus 1/T plot, where log P = 5.3 - 1400/ T. These results can be extrapolated to agree reasonably well with the results of previous investigations using gas pressure techniques.

Phase Equilibrium in the System MgO-H2O at High Temperatures and Very High Pressures

Phase equilibrium in the system MgO-H₂O was investigated from 500° to 1450° C at 5 to 40 kbars by a quenching technique using a piston-cylinder apparatus. Brucite decomposed to periclase plus vapor at 810° and 10 kbars, 945° and 20 kbars, 1000° and 32 kbars, and 975°C and 40 kbars. The slope of the decomposition P-T curve became steeper with increasing pressure, infinite at 32^- kbars and 1000C, and then negative above 32 kbars. The extrapolation of this curve to lower pressures agrees well with data of other workers who used hydrothermal techniques.     

Complex Permittivity Spectra of Various Insulating Polymers at Ultrawide‐Band Frequencies

Nowadays, trials to use even higher frequencies are pursued to realize high‐speed wireless communications. In order to respond to such a trend, dielectric properties of insulating polymers at high frequencies have to be clarified, although the importance of clarifying low‐frequency properties is still very high, especially for use as high‐voltage insulators. In this regard, complex permittivity spectra from 10 mHz to 4.0 THz were obtained for various insulating polymers. The spectra obtained in the very wide frequency range are important, because they can be a valuable database and they provide various pieces of important information on dielectric characteristics.     

日本开放式设备系统网络的现状与推广普及iopeNet的建议

在本刊特辑中我们介绍了“iopeNet”的相关技术以及应用系统,本文以日本开放式业务流程为基础提出方向性建议。具体来讲,是建议设立iopeNet推进中心以及尽早成立以此为目的的筹备委员会。     

Stabilization of a large‐capacity,long‐distance transmission system by an adjustable‐speed flywheel generator

An adjustable‐speed flywheel generator (FWG) can control both active power and reactive power rapidly. We have studied the effect of FWG installation on a large‐ capacity, long‐distance transmission system, especially when the system includes loops. In this paper, we describe the selection of FWG location, the selection of stabilizing control input signal, and the required quantities of FWG. FWG location is selected by a PQ‐sensitivity method, calculation of which is simple and permits easy understanding of the effect of both FWG's active and reactive power. As a stabilizing control input signal, we use bus voltage frequency instead of power flow because the flow changes stepwise by opening three‐phase single‐circuit. Additionally, we clarify the FWG quantities that must be designed, such as FWG's active power and reactive power. We considered FWG's slip to determine the quantity because the capacity of the exciter depends on slip. © 1999 Scripta Technica, Electr Eng Jpn, 127(2): 32–41, 1999

在本文当中,分别对以下两点进行了概述,一是“监测型”,即在建筑物机电设备中,以对节能措施实施计测、计量的结果为基础来改善应用;另一种是“控制型”,即对各类设备实施协调联动控制。此外,本文还就开放式通信协议对实现上述技术的重要性进行了论述。     

Solution-stirring method improves crystal quality of human triosephosphate isomerase

We examined the effect of a solution-stirring method on human triosephosphate isomerase crystallization. The crystals diffracted to more than 1.4 A resolution, whereas those obtained by the normal vapour-diffusion technique diffracted to 2.8 A. These results clearly show that the solution-stirring method is valuable and useful for protein crystallization because of its effectiveness and simplicity.
