Dual-fuel compression ignition (CI) engine operation with hydrogen is a promising method of using hydrogen gas in CI engines via high-cetane pilot fuel ignition. However, hydrogen dual-fuel operation with neat pilot fuels typically produce: high NOx emissions; and high combustion chamber pressure rise rates (leading to increased “Diesel knock” tendencies). While water-in-fuel emulsions have been used during normal CI engine operation to cool the charge and slow combustion rates in an effort to reduce NOx emissions, these water-in-fuel emulsions have not been tested as pilot fuels during hydrogen dual-fuel combustion. In this work two water-in-biodiesel emulsions are tested as pilot fuels during hydrogen dual-fuel operation. Hydrogen dual-fuel operation generally produces at best comparable thermal efficiencies compared with normal CI engine operation, while the emulsified biodiesel pilot fuels generally increase thermal efficiencies when compared with the neat biodiesel pilot fuel during dual-fuel operation. There is also a clear reduction in NOx emissions with emulsified pilot fuel use compared with the neat pilot fuel. The thermal efficiency increase is more apparent at higher engine speeds, while the NOx reduction is more apparent at lower speeds. This is due to two conflicting effects (exclusive to emulsified pilot fuel) that occur in tandem. The first is the cooling effect of water vapourisation on the charge, while the second is the microexplosion phenomenon which enhances fuel-air mixing. The NOx emission reduction is due to the emulsified pilot fuel lowering pressure rise rates compared with the neat pilot fuel, while the efficiency increase is due to a more homogeneous charge resulting from the violent microexplosion of the emulsified pilot fuel. Smoke, CO, HC and CO2 emissions remain comparable to neat pilot fuel tests. Overall, emulsified pilot fuels can reduce NOx emissions and increase thermal efficiencies, however not at the same instance and under different operating conditions. The general trends of reduced power output, reduced CO2 and increased water vapour emission during hydrogen dual-fuel operation (with neat pilot fuels) are also maintained.  相似文献

Alterations in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) subclass distribution, as well as in the activities of HDL-associated enzymes, have been associated with increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. HDL subclass distribution and the activities of HDL-associated enzymes remain unknown in prediabetic patients, a condition also associated with increased CVD risk. The aim of the present study was to assess any differences in HDL subclass distribution (using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis) and in activities of HDL-associated enzymes between prediabetic (impaired fasting glucose, IFG, n = 80) and non-prediabetic subjects (n = 105). Subjects with prediabetes had significantly increased waist circumference, blood pressure and triacylglycerol (TAG) levels compared with subjects with fasting glucose levels <100 mg/dL (all p < 0.05). The proportion of small HDL3 over HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) was significantly increased in prediabetic subjects compared with their controls (p < 0.05). The activity of the anti-atherogenic HDL-associated lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (HDL-LpPLA2) was significantly lower in subjects with prediabetes (p < 0.05), whereas the activity of paraoxonase 1 (using both paraoxon and phenyl acetate as substrates) did not significantly differ between subjects with or without prediabetes. In a stepwise linear regression analysis, the proportion of small HDL3 over HDL-C concentration was independently associated with the presence of prediabetes and with total cholesterol and TAG concentration (positively), as well as with HDL-C levels (negatively). We also observed a trend of increased small dense low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in prediabetic subjects compared with their controls. Subjects with IFG exhibit increased proportion of small HDL3 particles combined with decreased activity of the anti-atherogenic HDL-LpPLA2.  相似文献

This paper describes a method which performs these operations by examining pairs of boundary points of the various objects in the picture. Natural gas and hydrogen have been extensively tested in dual fuel mode in a compression ignition engine. Many studies conclude that the emissions, especially those oxides of nitrogen (NOx) are expected to form in the region around the pilot spray where high temperatures exist and the equivalence ratio is close to stoichiometric. The effect of changing the pilot fuel quantity has not been widely reported. This study investigates the effect of changing pilot fuel quantity, and type and the effect of this change on various combustion (ignition delay, in-cylinder pressure and rate of energy release) and emission (specific NOx and hydrocarbons) parameters. Dual fueling of natural gas and hydrogen exhibit an increased ignition delay compared to the ignition delay exhibited by the pilot fuel at similar operating conditions. For dual fueling cases, the ignition delay is reduced as the quantity of pilot fuel is increased.  相似文献

Natural gas is a fossil fuel that has been used and investigated extensively for use in spark-ignition (SI) and compression-ignition (CI) engines. Compared with conventional gasoline engines, SI engines using natural gas can run at higher compression ratios, thus producing higher thermal efficiencies but also increased nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, while producing lower emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), unburned hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO). These engines also produce relatively less power than gasoline-fueled engines because of the convergence of one or more of three factors: a reduction in volumetric efficiency due to natural-gas injection in the intake manifold; the lower stoichiometric fuel/air ratio of natural gas compared to gasoline; and the lower equivalence ratio at which these engines may be run in order to reduce NOx emissions. High NOx emissions, especially at high loads, reduce with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). However, EGR rates above a maximum value result in misfire and erratic engine operation. Hydrogen gas addition increases this EGR threshold significantly. In addition, hydrogen increases the flame speed of the natural gas-hydrogen mixture. Power levels can be increased with supercharging or turbocharging and intercooling. Natural gas is used to power CI engines via the dual-fuel mode, where a high-cetane fuel is injected along with the natural gas in order to provide a source of ignition for the charge. Thermal efficiency levels compared with normal diesel-fueled CI-engine operation are generally maintained with dual-fuel operation, and smoke levels are reduced significantly. At the same time, lower NOx and CO2 emissions, as well as higher HC and CO emissions compared with normal CI-engine operation at low and intermediate loads are recorded. These trends are caused by the low charge temperature and increased ignition delay, resulting in low combustion temperatures. Another factor is insufficient penetration and distribution of the pilot fuel in the charge, resulting in a lack of ignition centers. EGR admission at low and intermediate loads increases combustion temperatures, lowering unburned HC and CO emissions. Larger pilot fuel quantities at these load levels and hydrogen gas addition can also help increase combustion efficiency. Power output is lower at certain conditions than diesel-fueled engines, for reasons similar to those affecting power output of SI engines. In both cases the power output can be maintained with direct injection. Overall, natural gas can be used in both engine types; however further refinement and optimization of engines and fuel-injection systems is needed.  相似文献

Metasurfaces based on quasi-bound states in the continuum (quasi-BICs) constitute an emerging toolkit in nanophotonic sensing as they sustain high quality factor resonances and substantial near-field enhancements. It is demonstrated that silicon metasurfaces composed of crescent shaped meta-atoms provide tailored light-matter interaction controlled by the crescent geometry. Significantly, this metasurface not only exhibits a fundamental quasi-BIC resonance, but also supports a higher-order resonance with tunable electromagnetic field enhancement and advantageous properties for sensing. The higher-order resonance shows twice the sensitivity of the fundamental one for bulk refractive index sensing. It is further demonstrated that both the fundamental and higher-order resonances can be exploited for sensing ultrathin layers of biomolecules in air and buffer solutions. Specifically, when measuring in buffer solution, the figure of merit of the sensor, defined as the change in the spectral position of the resonance normalized to its full width at half maximum, is a factor of 2.5 larger for the higher-order resonance when compared to the fundamental one. Due to its high sensitivity and potential for straightforward microfluidic integration, the silicon crescent metasurface is ideally suited for real-time and in situ biosensing, enabling compact sensing devices for a wide range of diagnostic applications.  相似文献

This study explores children’s opinions and preferences regarding two isomorphic user interfaces that can be used for introductory programming activities, a tangible and a graphical one. The first system (tangible) comprises 46 cube-shaped blocks that represent simple programming structures and can be interconnected to form the programming code. The second system (graphical) presents on-screen the same programming space to the user (icons similar in appearance and operation with the tangible blocks). These two operationally equivalent user interfaces were given to three children groups of different ages (5–6, 7–8 and 11–12 years) to program the behavior of a Lego NXT robot. Children in dyads were let to interact with both systems, and during the activity, data were collected regarding children’s first-sight preference, enjoyment and easiness-to-use. The quantitative and qualitative analysis followed indicated that the tangible interface was more attractive especially for girls, and it was more enjoyable and finally characterized as easier to use only by younger children who were less experienced with computers. On the contrary, for older (11–12 years old) children, the tangible even though was more enjoyable, it was not considered as the easiest-to-use user interface. Taking into account the lack of empirical evidences related to the tangible user interfaces, this study discusses not only the potential usability advantages but also the disadvantages of tangible user interfaces for children.  相似文献

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of acute infection with Leptospira interrogans on lipids, lipoproteins and associated enzymes. Fasting serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), triglycerides (TG), apolipoproteins (apo) A-Ι, B, E, C-II, C-III and lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] were determined in patients with Leptospirosis on diagnosis and 4 months after recovery as well as in age- and sex-matched controls. Activities of cholesteryl-ester transfer protein (CETP) and lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) as well as paraoxonase 1 (PON1) hydrolysing activity and levels of cytokines were determined. LDL subclass analysis was performed with Lipoprint LDL System. Eleven patients (10 men, mean age 49.5 ± 8.4 years) and 11 controls were included. TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, apoA-I, apoB and Lp(a) levels were lower at baseline, whereas TG and apoE levels were elevated compared with 4 months later. At baseline, higher levels of cytokines and cholesterol concentration of small dense LDL particles (sdLDL-C) were noticed, whereas LDL particle size was lower compared with follow-up. Activities of plasma Lp-PLA2 and HDL-associated Lp-PLA2 were lower at baseline compared with post treatment values, whereas PON1 activity was similar at baseline and 4 months later. 4 months after recovery, the levels of all lipid parameters evaluated did not differ compared with controls, except for HDL-C which remained lower. PON1 activity both at baseline and 4 months later was lower in patients compared with controls. Leptospirosis is associated with atherogenic changes of lipids, lipoproteins and associated enzymes.  相似文献
