The authors report an optical receiver which uses a separate-absorption-and-multiplication avalanche photodiode (SAM-APD) to achieve high sensitivity at a bit rate of 10 Gb/s. A transimpedance front end incorporating HEMT devices is used for high bandwidth and low noise. The sensitivity (bit-error rate of 10-9) is -28.7 dBm for a return-to-zero signal, and -27.0 dBm for a nonreturn-to-zero signal  相似文献

Protein design aims to understand the fundamentals of protein structure by creating novel proteins with pre-specified folds. An equally important goal is to understand protein function by creating novel proteins with pre-specified activities. Here we describe the design and characterization of a tetratricopeptide (TPR) protein, which binds to the C-terminal peptide of the eukaryotic chaperone Hsp90. The design emphasizes the importance of both direct, short-range protein-peptide interactions and of long-range electrostatic optimization. We demonstrate that the designed protein binds specifically to the desired peptide and discriminates between it and the similar C-terminal peptide of Hsp70.  相似文献

Aspect-oriented software testing is emerging as an important alternative to conventional procedural and object-oriented testing techniques. This paper reports experiences from two case studies where aspects were used for the testing of embedded software in the context of an industrial application. In the first study, we used code-level aspects for testing non-functional properties. The methodology we used for deriving test aspect code was based on translating high-level requirements into test objectives, which were then implemented using test aspects in AspectC++. In the second study, we used high-level visual scenario-based models for the test specification, test generation, and aspect-based test execution. To specify scenario-based tests, we used a UML2-compliant variant of live sequence charts. To automatically generate test code from the models, a modified version of the S2A Compiler, outputting AspectC++ code, was used. Finally, to examine the results of the tests, we used the Tracer, a prototype tool for model-based trace visualization and exploration. The results of the two case studies show that aspects offer benefits over conventional techniques in the context of testing embedded software; these benefits are discussed in detail. Finally, towards the end of the paper, we also discuss the lessons learned, including the technological and other barriers to the future successful use of aspects in the testing of embedded software in industry.  相似文献

The animation environment Jeliot automates visualization of algorithms over the Internet. The user can visualize algorithms of his own, not merely the selection supplied by a service provider. Jeliot is based on self-animating data types: the user selects the data objects of the source code to be visualized, and Jeliot produces the animation based on operations performed on those types. We present the design of Jeliot and the principles of its implementation. In addition, we discuss the educational applications of Jeliot.  相似文献

We demonstrate that silver nanoisland film self-assembled on the surface of silver-containing glass in the course of thermal processing in hydrogen is capable to detect 10−7 M concentration of rhodamine 6G in water using surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) technique. The film can be multiply restored on the same glass substrate via annealing of the glass in hydrogen. We showed that the film can be self-assembled after as much as ten circles of the substrate cleaning followed by annealing. The proposed technique of the silver nanoisland film formation enables multiple usage of the same glass substrate in SERS experiments.  相似文献

Antibody–drug conjugates (ADCs) are promising alternatives to naked antibodies for selective drug‐delivery applications and treatment of diseases such as cancer. Construction of ADCs relies upon site‐selective, efficient and mild conjugation technologies. The choice of a chemical linker is especially important, as it affects the overall properties of the ADC. We envisioned that hydrophilic bifunctional chemical linkers based on carbohydrates would be a useful class of derivatization agents for the construction of linker–drug conjugates and ADCs. Herein we describe the synthesis of carbohydrate‐based derivatization agents, glycolinker–drug conjugates featuring the tubulin inhibitor monomethyl auristatin E and an ADC based on an anti‐EGFR antibody. In addition, an initial in vitro cytotoxicity evaluation of the individual components and the ADC is provided against EGFR‐positive cancer cells.  相似文献

The attenuation and dispersion of microstrip lines of the high-Tc superconductor YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) on yttria-stabilized zirconia substrates as a function of frequency and temperature are calculated. The effect on pulse propagation of superconducting and model dispersion in addition to the attenuation is demonstrated. At 60 K, microstrip lines of YBCO are significantly less attenuating at frequencies below 500 GHz than microstrip lines of copper at the same temperature. This advantage is particularly significant at the higher attenuations that result as the substrate thickness is made smaller for miniaturization or to improve the microstrip line bandwidth. The application of YBCO for microstrip lines appears to be most useful at frequencies above 100 GHz and dielectric thicknesses less than 100 μm, where the attenuation of cooled copper is prohibitively large. Cooled to temperatures below 20 K, YBCO may make possible a new generation of extremely high bandwidth (~5 THz), small-feature-size (~5 μm) circuits and devices  相似文献

Biodegradable polymers, mainly derivates of -hydroxy acids, are widely used today in oral- and maxillofacial surgery, orthopedics, and other fields of surgery. These biomaterials are well tolerated by living tissue and fracture fixation devices made of polylactic or polyglycolic acid are clinically widely used today. Still, there are some problems in application of biodegradable polymers. Abacterial inflammatory reactions have been noticed after the clinical introduction of these devices. Both swelling and pain at the site of implantation have also been reported. The etiology of this inflammatory reaction is still unknown, despite the numerous studies. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to further characterize this inflammatory reaction in detail, by electronmicroscopy. We prepared a mixture of -caprolactone–lactide copolymer and tricalcium phosphate and placed it in the dermis in 12 sheep. Follow-up times were 9, 14, 24, and 52 weeks. We found that the mixture caused a mild inflammatory reaction. There were no signs of cell damage. Fibroblasts, macrophages, and eosinophils were found adjacent to the copolymer. The mixture is easy to handle and can be moulded into different shapes in room temperature. The results encourage us to continue our studies to develop a filling material for bone defects.  相似文献
