The purpose of this study was to investigate, under standard conditions, the bioaccumulation of zinc and cadmium in Arrhenatherum elatius, a perennial grass with a high biomass production. Nine populations of three different origins were tested: three metallicolous populations (mpop); three non-metallicolous populations (nmpop) and three populations developing on soils moderately metal polluted (medpop). We have found that bioaccumulation differs among these populations, with nmpop accumulating significantly more zinc (p<0.0001) and cadmium (p<0.0001) than mpop. Indeed, we have observed a concentration of 325 mg kg(-1) of zinc and 52 mg kg(-1) of cadmium in A. elatius shoots from mpop, whereas in nmpop, the concentration reached on average 524 mg kg(-1) zinc and 83 mg kg(-1) cadmium. In the same way, medpop accumulated as much zinc but more cadmium than nmpop. Moreover, the standard deviation of medpop was larger than the one for mpop and nmpop. Indeed, some A. elatius samples from medpop presented a high metal content whereas, others presented low concentrations in their shoots (ranging from 60 to 210 mg kg(-1) cadmium). Hence, these medpop exhibited a large variability among and within populations in accumulating zinc and cadmium in their shoots. Based on these results, the possibility of selecting A. elatius plants with the best accumulating capacity from medpop was proposed. We concluded that if the accumulation capacity is genetically controlled in A. elatius, this species fulfils this necessary condition for efficiently increasing species bioaccumulation by crossbreeding A. elatius plants with the higher accumulation capacity.  相似文献

In this paper a model based on transmission line theory is used to predict the behavior of an eccentrically coated asymmetric antenna applicator for use in intracavitary hyperthermia. Theoretical results for the heating rate (HR) of the applicators are compared to experimental results. The experimental results were obtained at City of Hope National Medical Center using four different 915-MHz applicators, each with a different antenna size and eccentricity of the coating. A parameter delta is defined where delta < 1.0 is a thin wire approximation; delta is primarily a function of the eccentricity of the coating, the antenna diameter, and the coating diameter. It is found that when delta approximately less than 0.5, the theoretical model works well. In particular, it predicts the directivity due to the eccentricity of the coating. However, as this eccentricity is increased or as the antenna diameter is increased (delta approximately greater than 0.6), the model no longer accurately predicts directivity. Thus, the model that can be used to predict the HR profiles for an eccentrically coated asymmetric antenna only when delta approximately less than 0.5.  相似文献

Gasification experiments were performed on Spherocarb samples containing 5 weight % calcium oxide at a gasification temperature of 760°C. The atmosphere was hydrogen/water mixture maintained at a mole ratio of 1:1. There is a correlation between the rate of gasification of Spherocarb and the degree of crystallinity of the calcium oxide residue. Segregation of the calcium oxide results in considerable loss of catalytic activity.  相似文献

Carboxylated/oxidized diamond nanoparticles (nominal size 100 nm) exhibit exceptionally high affinity for proteins through both hydrophilic and hydrophobic forces. The affinity is so high that proteins in dilute solution can be easily captured by diamonds, simply separated by centrifugation, and directly analyzed by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry (MS). No preseparation of the adsorbed molecules from diamonds is required for the mass spectrometric analysis. Compared to conventional MALDI-TOF-MS, an enhancement in detection sensitivity by more than 2 orders of magnitude is achieved for dilute solution containing cytochrome c, myoglobin, and albumin because of preconcentration of the probed molecules. The lowest concentration detectable is 100 pM for a 1-mL solution. Aside from the enhanced sensitivity, the overall performance of this technique does not show any sign of deterioration for highly contaminated protein solutions, and furthermore, no significant peak broadening and band shift were observed in the mass spectra. The promise of this new method for clinical proteomics research is demonstrated with an application to human blood serum.  相似文献

We examine properties for a batch training algorithm known as the output weight optimization–hidden weight optimization (OWO–HWO). Using the concept of equivalent networks, we analyze the effect of input transformation on BP. We introduce new theory of affine invariance and partial affine invariance for neural networks and prove this property for OWO–HWO. Finally, we relate HWO to BP and show that every iteration of HWO is equivalent to BP applied to whitening transformed data. The Widrow-Hoff delta rule is one of the most popular rules used in training neural networks. It was originally proposed for the ADALINE, but has been successfully applied to a few nonlinear neural networks as well. Despite its popularity, there exist a few misconceptions on its convergence properties. We consider repetitive learning (i.e., a fixed set of samples are used for training) and provide an in-depth analysis in the least mean square (LMS) framework. Our main result is that contrary to common belief, the nonbatch Widrow-Hoff rule does not converge in general. It converges only to a limit cycle.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between placental polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, dibenzofurans (PCDD/F) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) toxic equivalent (TEQ) levels and the consumption of various food types in pregnant women from central Taiwan. Placental PCDD/Fs and PCB congener TEQ levels were evaluated in 109 pregnant women and dietary information was obtained by questionnaire. TEQ levels of PCDD/Fs and PCBs were positively associated with age and annual family incomes (p < 0.05). PCDD/F TEQs were significantly associated with freshwater fish and dairy product consumption after adjustment for age and body mass index (BMI) (p < 0.05). For PCB TEQs, significant associations were detected for saltwater fish consumption (p < 0.05). In summary, positive correlations were found between freshwater fish and dairy product intake and PCDD/F levels, and a marginal correlation between saltwater fish intake and the body burden of PCBs in pregnant women from central Taiwan. Risk assessment of PCDD/Fs and PCB in fishery products is warranted in a future study to quantify the benefits of fish consumption during the perinatal period.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to explore and assess manual material handling problems involving a vertical rope-pulling task from a scaffold (VRPS). Twenty-five young male Chinese subjects were recruited to participate in this study. The psychophysical method was used to investigate the effects of the rope material (nylon and hemp), rope diameter (6/8' and 4/8'), object size (bucket diameter 28 cm and 36 cm), operating with and without gloves on the maximum acceptable rope-pulling weight (MAWR), rating of perceived exertion (RPE) and heart rate, respectively. The results showed that the maximum acceptable rope-pulling weights were significantly affected by the rope material, rope diameter, object size and wearing or not wearing gloves. The MAWR for the hemp rope, coarse rope, small object size and without gloves was significantly greater than that for the nylon rope, fine rope, large object size and with gloves, respectively. However, the effect of the rope material, rope diameter, object size and with and without gloves on heart rate was not significant. The mean RPE response was significantly influenced by the rope material, object size and wearing or not wearing gloves. The most stressed body parts were the arms, fingers and wrists. The interaction effect between the rope material and wearing or not wearing gloves was significant. Generally, the VRPS for workers using hemp rope without gloves or using nylon rope without gloves was better than that for the other combinations.  相似文献
