Uniform Polarization Scattering With Fiber-Coil-Based Polarization Controllers

A detailed study of fiber-coil-based polarization controllers (PCs) is performed. First, a method to deterministically calculate the PC configuration in order to transform between any two states of polarization is presented. In a second stage, the case in which the configuration angles are randomly changed is studied. The cases of a single PC and of the system obtained with the concatenation of several PCs are analyzed. For both cases, a general expression for the variance of the Stokes parameters is obtained. Using this expression, it is demonstrated that it is possible to achieve uniform polarization scattering using a concatenation of fiber-coil-based PCs. Finally, it is shown that fiber-coil-based PCs can be used to emulate both first- and second-order polarization-mode dispersions     

The behavioral development of rats with prenatal hypoinsulinemia

Influence of the prenatal hypoinsulinaemia (streptozocin diabetes) on the behaviour of the offsprings of Wistar rats was studied from 1 to 20 postnatal days. In experimental pups there were slower weight increment, later eye opening, later development of elementary behavioural acts (grooming elements, rearing, sniffing), and later formation of complex behavioural patterns (investigation of an environment) than in the control offsprings of healthy females.     

Percutaneous transjejunal biliary intervention: 10-year experience with access via Roux-en-Y loops

Ancylostoma duodenale is still the dominant hookworm species in the Mediterranean area, India, China and Japan. In the present study, biopsied materials were taken from the small intestine of 30 patients infected only with A. duodenale and 12 cross matched controls. The results showed some pathological changes in severely infected cases. However, normal or insignificant changes were seen in the enzymatic activity of the intestinal mucosa.     

基于CAE分析的汽车制动液罐注射模设计

分析了汽车制动液罐注射件的结构特点,使用Moldflow软件对制品的注射成型过程进行CAE分析,确定了模具的浇注系统和成型工艺条件。模具为三板式点浇口结构,采用嵌件抽芯、斜导柱抽芯和液压抽芯相结合的方式实现模具的抽芯要求,并在此基础上完成了模具设计。     

Neural basis for the genesis and control of digitalis arrhythmias

The author discussed the increase in the frequency of traumatic paralyses of the ocular muscles, and reported 6 cases of inferior oblique muscle paresis caused by local blunt or sharp traumas (haematoma, contusion, rupture, incarceration) and one case of traumatic Brownian pseudo-paralysis. The localisation of the injuries in 3 cases was on the inferior temporal part and in the other 3 cases on the superior part of the bulbar conjunctiva. Atypical horizontal deviation and characteristic vertical deviation, torsion and torticollis were observed in the majority of cases. One patient recovered spontaneously. 3 patients became asymptomatic after correction by prisms and one after recession of contralateral superior rectus muscle. The symptoms remained unchanged in the case of a "blow out" fracture (in spite of operation) and a Brown's syndrome (without treatment).     

Abdominoperineal resection following anterior resection

A series of 11 patients undergoing abdoninoperineal resection for "suture line recurrence" following anterior resection is presented. Five-year survival is 10%. Technically, the procedure is difficult and major problems are encountered, including large blood loss and ureteral complications. These patients had an inadequate distal margin of resection at the time of anterior resection. The survival of this group of patients underscores the importance of making the correct judgment about anterior or abdominoperineal resection at the time of the initial presentation of the patient. The phrase "suture line recurrence" is a misnomer; all of these patients had advanced pelvic malignancy. If the adequacy of the distal margin is questionable or a distal margin of 5 cm cannot be obtained safely at the time of anterior resection, abdominoperineal resection should be performed, as the opportunity for cure of a recurrence should this rule be compromised is limited.

OXYGEN TRANSMISSION RATE of an EDIBLE METHYLCELLULOSE-PALMITIC ACID FILM1

Edible coatings with low potassium sorbate permeability could be used to increase the microbial stability of food surfaces. However, such coatings could induce anaerobic food conditions if their oxygen permeability were low. the oxygen permeability of an edible emulsion film (average thickness, 55 μm), composed of methylcellulose and palmitic acid (weight ratio of 3:1), was evaluated at 24°C, atmospheric pressure, and at different percentages of relative humidity (RH). RH values in the 0–57% range had no significant effect on oxygen transmission rate (OTR); calculated OTR values ranged from 660 to 740 mL O₂ (STP)/m² 24h atm. At 79% RH, the OTR doubled to 1,500 mL O₂ (STP)/m² 24h atm. This effect correlated well with the moisture isotherm for the film which showed a low moisture content in the 0–57% RH range and a rapid increase at higher RH values. OTR values, particularly at high relative humidity, indicate no risk of developing anaerobic conditions on the food surface.
