Adaptive joint subband vector quantisation codec for handheld videophone applications 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A new wavelet-based video codec is presented, which joins vectors in the same subbands of different frames in a frame group and uses the properties of the human visual system. Perceptual weights are designed and used in the vector selection and quantisation of the wavelet coefficients. The objective of this project is to propose a method of identifying cells found in human blood and to classify them based upon their morphological features using neural networks. The project focuses on three major blood cell types, namely, erythrocytes, leukocytes and platelets. The data are collected using peripheral blood smears from clinical patients. The image acquisition requires 100x magnification on all the blood smears, the preprocessing involves the use of median and edge enhance filters; the feature extraction is done by performing the wavelet transform on the images. Finally classification of the blood cell types is done using ALOPEX and Back Propagation trained neural networks. The efficacy of both networks is then compared by comparing their outputs and number of iterations required to reach the final result. 相似文献

The path probability method (PPM) of irreversible statistical mechanics has been successfully applied to various diffusion problems. The major advantage of this atomistic treatment over the phenomenological approach of irreversible thermodynamics is that all Onsager matrix coefficients can be derived analytically so that relations among measurable quantities can be clearly understood in terms of microscopic parameters. This review article attempts to present the PPM in the simplest possible form. The importance of the PPM as an atomistic technique is illustrated using a simple example. We describe 2 patients with a Sj?gren-like syndrome apparently secondary to hypertriglyceridemia. Both had bilateral parotitis in addition to musculoskeletal and sicca symptoms. Parotid gland histology revealed fatty infiltration with no inflammation. Therapy with dietary modification and triglyceride lowering drugs resulted in resolution of symptoms and parotid swelling in one patient. In the 2nd patient, hypertriglyceridemia was resistant to triglyceride lowering drugs, and parotid symptoms and swelling continued unabated. Our findings suggest aggressive treatment of hyperlipidemia in pseudo-Sj?gren's syndrome may result in amelioration of musculoskeletal and parotid symptoms. 相似文献

The role of vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) was investigated when mucosal stroking and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) were used to activate neural reflexes that stimulate chloride secretion in the guinea pig colon. Muscle-stripped segments of colon containing intact submucosal ganglia without myenteric ganglia were set up in modified flux chambers in order to record short-circuit current (Isc). Mucosal stroking with a brush for 1 s or a pulse of 5-HT (injection of 15 microliters of 100 microM 5-HT into 1.5 ml of mucosal solution) caused an increase in Isc that was reduced by the VIP antagonist, neurotensin6-11-VIP7-28, in a concentration-dependent manner. The Isc responses to mucosal stroking and a 5-HT pulse were reduced by 53% and 58%, respectively, by 2 microM neurotensin6-11-VIP7-28. The residual Isc response in the presence of neurotensin6-11-VIP7-28 was abolished by atropine. Blockade of 5-HT1P receptors on submucosal afferent neurons decreased Isc responses to stroking or a 5-HT pulse. The residual Isc response after 5-HT1P receptors were blocked was reduced by only 11-14% by neurotensin6-11-VIP7-28. In the presence of blockade of both 5-HT1P and VIP receptors, atropine abolished the Isc response to both stimuli. The observations suggest that the neural circuitry activated by stroking includes at least two independent pathways. One pathway contains VIP neurons which receive inputs directly or indirectly from 5-HT1P receptor-containing afferents. A second pathway involves muscarinic cholinergic transmission that is independent of 5-HT1P and VIP receptor activation. 相似文献

Active matrix prestressed microelectromechanical shutter displays enable outstanding optical properties as well as robust operating performance. The microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) shutter elements have been optimized for higher light outcoupling efficiency with lower operation voltage and higher pixel density. The MEMS elements have been co-fabricated with self-aligned metal-oxide thin-film transistors (TFTs). Several optimizations were required to integrate MEMS process without hampering the performance of both elements. To grapple with multidrug resistant bacterial infections, implementations of antibacterial nanomedicines have gained prime attention of the researchers across the globe. Nowadays, zinc oxide (ZnO) at nano‐scale has emerged as a promising antibacterial therapeutic agent. Keeping this in view, ZnO nanostructures (ZnO‐NS) have been synthesised through reduction by P. aphylla aqueous extract without the utilisation of any acid or base. Structural examinations via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X‐ray diffraction have revealed pure phase morphology with highly homogenised average particle size of 18 nm. SEM findings were further supplemented by transmission electron microscopy examinations. The characteristic Zn–O peak has been observed around 363 nm using ultra‐violet–visible spectroscopy. Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy examination has also confirmed the formation of ZnO‐NS through detection of Zn–O bond vibration frequencies. To check the superior antibacterial activity of ZnO‐NS, the authors'' team has performed disc diffusion assay and colony forming unit testing against multidrug resistant E. coli, S. marcescens and E. cloacae. In this paper a novel multiresolution human visual system and statistically based image coding scheme is presented. It decorrelates
the input image into a number of subbands using a lifting based wavelet transform. The codec employs a novel statistical encoding
algorithm to code the coefficients in the detail subbands. Perceptual weights are applied to regulate the threshold value
of each detail subband that is required in the statistical encoding process. The baseband coefficients are losslessly coded.
An extension of the codec to the progressive transmission of images is also developed. To evaluate the performance of the
coding scheme, it was applied to a number of test images and its performance with and without perceptual weights is evaluated.
The results indicate significant improvement in both subjective and objective quality of the reconstructed images when perceptual
weights are employed. The performance of the proposed technique was also compared to JPEG and JPEG2000. The results show that
the proposed coding scheme outperforms both coding standards at low compression ratios, while offering satisfactory performance
