The mycological and physicochemical qualities (pH and titratable acidity) of fermenting pearl millet gruel were evaluated using routine methods. Several species of yeasts and moulds were isolated and the mould species identified based on their observable macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. The moulds identified included: Penicillium sp (FM1), Rhizopus spp (FM2, FM3 and FM6), Aspergillus flavus (FM7) and Aspergillus niger (FM8). These isolates were screened for production of antimicrobial compounds using agar well diffusion method. Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus lichieniformis, Salmonella spp., Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas syringae, Proteus sp. and Serratia sp. were utilized as indicator organisms. Secondary metabolites were also extracted from the respective moulds and the antimicrobial properties of these metabolites were tested against pure cultures of E. coli, S. aureus, P. flourescens and B. lichieniformis. All the moulds exhibited antimicrobial activity against P. flourescens while the metabolic extract of Aspergillus flavus (FM7) displayed the highest zone of inhibition (24 mm) against an overnight culture of P. flourescens.  相似文献

Benefits of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) can be enhanced by raising their bioavailability through microencapsulation. Pollen can be emptied to form hollow shells, known as exines, and then used to encapsulate material, such as oils in a dry powder form. Six healthy volunteers ingested 4.6 g of fish oil containing 20% EPA in the form of ethyl ester first alone and then as 1:1 microencapsulated powder of exines and fish oil. Serum bioavailability of EPA was measured by area under curve (AUC0–24). The mean AUC0–24 of EPA from ethyl ester with exine (M = 19.7, SD = 4.3) was significantly higher than ethyl ester without exines (M = 2, SD = 1.4, p < 0.01).The bioavailability of EPA is enhanced by encapsulation by pollen exines.  相似文献

A two‐roll mill machine was used for the grafting of p‐aminophenol (pAP) onto natural rubber (NR). The prepared NR graft p‐aminphenol (NR‐g‐pAP) was characterized by 1H NMR and IR spectroscopy techniques. The goal of this article is to study the effect of commercial antioxidants, N‐phenyl‐N′‐(1,3‐dimethylbutyl)‐p‐phenylenediamine (6PPD) and N‐phenyl‐N′‐isopropyl‐p‐phenylenediamine (IPPD), and the prepared NR‐g‐pAP, on the mechanical properties of acrylonitrile–butadiene (NBR) vulcanizates, the fluid compatibility of NBR vulcanizates, the hydraulic brake and clutch fluid dot, the diffusion out for NBR vulcanizate components, and the compression recovery of NBR vulcanizates. This study indicates that the NBR copolymer vulcanizate which contains the prepared NR‐g‐pAP has good protection against mechanical stress and the diffusion out of NBR vulcanizate components. The 6PPD and the prepared NR‐g‐pAP ameliorates the fluid compatibility of the oil seals, which is based on NBR as elastomer, and the hydraulic brake and clutch fluid dot. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper describes a practical implementation of a single-phase Si microchannel cooler designed for cooling very high power chips such as microprocessors. Through the use of multiple heat exchanger zones and optimized cooler fin designs, a unit thermal resistance 10.5 C-mm2 /W from the cooler surface to the inlet water was demonstrated with a fluid pressure drop of <35kPa. Further, cooling of a thermal test chip with a microchannel cooler bonded to it packaged in a single chip module was also demonstrated for a chip power density greater than 300W/cm2. Amidoximated bagasse (Am‐B) was prepared by treating sugarcane bagasse fibers with acrylonitrile in the presence of sodium hydroxide followed by aqueous hydroxyl amine. Adsorption of some heavy metal ions, namely, Cu(II), Hg(II), Ni(II), Cr(III), and Pb(II) on the prepared Am‐B at different metal ion concentration, intervals, and temperatures was studied. Also, the selectivity of the prepared Am‐B toward adsorption of the aforementioned metal ions in an equimolar mixture was studied. The effect of regeneration of Am‐B using ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA), up to five times, on its adsorption capacity of the aforementioned metal ions was investigated. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Stearoyl-CoA desaturase activity in microsomes from lactating rat mammary gland is very low (0.05–0.15 nmol/min/mg of protein) regardless of lactating time. In such microsomes, reductase activities and content of cytochrome b5 are several-fold lower than in normal rat liver microsomes. Preincubation of the mammary microsomes with purified terminal desaturase gives a 55-fold stimulation of stearoyl-CoA desaturase activity, whereas preincubation with cytochrome b5 has no effect. However, preincubation of mammary microsomes with both cytochrome b5 and terminal desaturase results in a 200-fold stimulation of overall desaturation. These observations suggest that negligible stearoyl-CoA desaturase activity in lactating rat mammary microsomes is due to a low cytochrome b5 content and the absence of terminal enzyme. The hepatic stearoyl-CoA desaturase activity increases 9-fold during lactation. There is little or no change in the NADH-cytochrome c reductase activity or in the concentration of cytochrome b5 during this period, but the activity of the terminal desaturase increases with the increase of overall desaturation. These results suggest that liver is one of the more important sources of oleic acid for milk triglycerides.  相似文献

An infrastructure development in landscape and clearing of more vegetated areas have provided huge changes in Malaysia gradually leading to slope instabilities accompanied by enormous environmental effects such as properties and destructions. Thus, prudent practices through vegetation incorporating to use slope stability is an option to the general stabilized technique. Few researches have investigated the effectiveness of vegetative coverings related to slope and soil parameters. The main goal of this study is to provide an intelligent soft computing model to predict the safety factor (FOS) of a slope using support vector regression (SVR). In the other words, SVR has investigated the surface eco-protection techniques for cohesive soil slopes in Guthrie Corridor Expressway stretch through the probabilistic models analysis to highlight the main parameters. The aforementioned analysis has been performed to predict the FOS of a slope, also the estimator’s function has been confirmed by the simulative outcome compared to artificial neural network and genetic programing resulting in a drastic accurate estimation by SVR. Using new analyzing methods like SVR are more purposeful than achieving a starting point by trial and error embedding multiple factors into one in ordinary low-technique software.

Silk sericin (SS), a protein biopolymer, is gaining an increasing attention in a variety of biomedical applications. Our objective was to identify the optimal extraction method yielding the highest silk protein content, to assess its chemical elemental composition, to characterize it, and to compare its conformation by X-ray diffraction and Fourier-transform infrared versus that of the commercial one. Herein, alkali and high temperature is the perfect approach. This study aimed further to test whether extracted SS could attenuate the adverse hepatotoxic effects induced by diethylnitrosamine (DEN) in mice. Animals were injected intraperitoneally once weekly for four consecutive weeks with physiological saline (0.9% NaCl), DEN (25 mg/kg), SS (1 g/kg) 90 min prior to DEN injection, melatonin (10 mg/kg) followed within 1 h with the administration of SS and 30 min later with DEN. The results confirmed the hepatotoxicity of DEN manifested by an increase in liver enzymes' activity, and pathological changes in the liver tissue. The combined use of SS and/or melatonin with DEN returned most of the parameters to values similar to the controls. Briefly, chemically characterized SS seems a valuable extract for further consideration as anti-carcinogenic agent. It has the potential to upgrade liver cancer chemotherapeutic agents.  相似文献

A new flow-control system (FCS-705) has been developed at Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science. The system is intended for calibration of vacuum gauges in the pressure range of 1 Pa-133 Pa by comparison method. This paper describes some basic characteristics of the system including; (1) the design and construction of the system, (2) the generation of stable pressures in the chamber, (3) achieving high upstream pressure limit by installing a short duct in the by-pass pumping line, and (4) investigation of the gas flow regimes within the short duct.  相似文献

Interferon gamma (IFN-gamma) has been implicated in T helper type 1 (Th1) cell development through its ability to optimize interleukin 12 (IL-12) production from macrophages and IL-12 receptor expression on activated T cells. Various systems have suggested a role for IFN-gamma derived from the innate immune system, particularly natural killer (NK) cells, in mediating Th1 differentiation in vivo. We tested this requirement by reconstituting T cell and IFN-gamma doubly deficient mice with wild-type CD4(+) T cells and challenging the mice with pathogens that elicited either minimal or robust IL-12 in vivo (Leishmania major or Listeria monocytogenes, respectively). Th1 cells developed under both conditions, and this was unaffected by the presence or absence of IFN-gamma in non-T cells. Reconstitution with IFN-gamma-deficient CD4(+) T cells could not reestablish control over L. major, even in the presence of IFN-gamma from the NK compartment. These data demonstrate that activated T cells can maintain responsiveness to IL-12 through elaboration of endogenous IFN-gamma without requirement for an exogenous source of this cytokine.  相似文献
