Charge transfer in graphene/polymer interfaces for CO<Subscript>2</Subscript> detection

Understanding charge transfer processes between graphene and functional materials is crucial from the perspectives of fundamental sciences and potential applications, including electronic devices, photonic devices, and sensors. In this study, we present the charge transfer behavior of graphene and amine-rich polyethyleneimine (PEI) upon CO₂ exposure, which was significantly improved after introduction of hygroscopic polyethylene glycol (PEG) in humid air. By blending PEI and PEG, the number of protonated amine groups in PEI was remarkably increased in the presence of water molecules, leading to a strong electron doping effect on graphene. The presence of CO₂ gas resulted in a large change in the resistance of PEI/PEG-co-functionalized graphene because of the dramatic reduction of said doping effect, reaching a maximum sensitivity of 32% at 5,000 ppm CO₂ and an applied bias of 0.1 V in air with 60% relative humidity at room temperature. This charge transfer correlation will facilitate the development of portable graphene-based sensors for real-time gas detection and the extension of the applications of graphene-based electronic and photonic devices.

Experimental and theoretical studies on the corrosion inhibition of vitamins – Thiamine hydrochloride or biotin in corrosion of mild steel in aqueous chloride environment

The corrosion inhibition of thiamine hydrochloride (vitamin B1) or biotin (vitamin B7) on corrosion of mild steel in 240 ppm chloride ions solution was studied using weight loss method, potentiodynamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. UV–Vis, FTIR and surface analysis using SEM and EDS characterization were carried out to understand the corrosion inhibition property of these inhibitors in 240 ppm aqueous chloride medium. Experimental results show that both thiamine hydrochloride and biotin act as a good corrosion inhibitors. Quantum chemical parameters obtained from density functional theory (DFT) calculations were discussed with experimental results.     

Biotransformation of (−)‐bornyl acetate using submerged cultures of Collybia velutipes,Trametes hirsuta and Ganoderma applanatum

The biotransformation of (?)‐bornyl acetate by three Basidiomycetes, Collybia velutipes, Trametes hirsuta and Ganoderma applanatum was monitored for 7 days. The observed reactions were regio‐ and stereo‐selective hydroxylation, acetate hydrolysis and oxidation of alcohols to carbonyl compounds. Nine cyclic compounds, three of which (6‐exo‐hydroxybornyl acetate, 8‐hydroxy‐5‐exo‐hydroxybornyl acetate, 9‐hydroxy‐5‐exo‐hydroxybornyl acetate), not previously described, were isolated from the fermentation broth and therefore were identified. Product types and concentrations varied with strain and incubation time. The toxicity of the substrate was assessed from the variation of fungal biomass in the course of incubation.
