This paper presents a navigation aid for the blind based on a microcontroller with synthetic speech output. The system consists of two vibrators, two ultrasonic sensors mounted on the user??s shoulders and another one integrated into the cane. It is able to give information to the blind about urban walking routes and to provide real-time information on the distance of over-hanging obstacles within 6 m along the travel path ahead of the user. The suggested system can then sense the surrounding environment via sonar sensors and sending vibro-tactile feedback to the user of the position of the closest obstacles in range. For the ultrasonic cane, it is used to detect any obstacle on the ground. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed system for blind navigation. 相似文献

This paper presents a numerical modeling, provides an improved understanding of the fundamental transport phenomena inside the PEM fuel cell. The problem is stated in a steady-state, two-dimensional model and Cartesian coordinates system by using a single domain and a control volume method. The model consists of non-linear, coupled partial differential equations representing the conservation of mass, momentum, species, charges and energy with electrochemical reactions that are valid for gas diffusion electrodes, catalyst layers and membrane region. This paper presents the theoretical and finite element formulations of piezoelectric composite shells of revolution filled with compressible fluid. The originality of this work lies (i) in the development of a variational formulation for the fully coupled fluid/piezoelectric structure system, and (ii) in the finite element implementation of an inexpensive and accurate axisymmetric adaptive laminated conical shell element. The MPEG- 2 Advanced Audio Coder is the latest issue of the MPEG audio encoders/decoders family, whose most popular version is known as MP3. It gathers many of the latest highly efficient sound compression techniques in a quite classically structured coder. The main part is based on a Discrete Cosine Transform with variable resolution. The output from this filterbank is compressed by the combination of an adaptive bit allocation module, according to frequency subbands, and a set of noiseless Huffman codebooks. Bit allocation is controlled by a psychoa-coustic model which determines an audibility threshold for signal distortion in the frequency domain. Coastal populations with high seafood consumption in the Mediterranean have a significant exposure to dietary methylmercury, and areas where environmental mercury pollution is an issue due to industrial activities are of special concern. The study was undertaken with the aim of assessing methylmercury exposure through fish consumption in a community of north Morocco and characterizing the relevant health risk. Concentrations of total mercury were determined in human hair, a biomarker of methylmercury exposure, and in locally consumed fish by cold vapour atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Based on consumption frequencies reported by the 108 subjects included in the study the weekly intake of methylmercury was estimated and biomarker data were evaluated in relation to the estimated intake and the sociodemographic characteristics of the population. Multiple regression analysis was employed for the interpretation of hair mercury data in relation to fish consumption frequency, gender and the age of individuals. Mercury concentrations in hair ranged from 0.22 to 9.56 µg g-1 (geometric mean = 1.79 µg g-1) and were closely related to fish intake. Fisherman and their families consumed fish three to five times per week and were the most exposed population subgroup. A high proportion of women of child-bearing age (50%) had relatively high levels of mercury in their hair (3.08-7.88 µg g-1). 相似文献

In this paper, we study the reflection behavior of (3D) Fresnel collectors operating in the fixed-aperture mode with a tracking absorber. The aim of the study is to investigate the possibility of the use of this type of installation for applications in medium temperature processes (200–300°C). Two models of (3D) Fresnel concentrator are developed for this purpose. One is based on the approximation of the optical behavior of a parabolic concentrator, and the other on that of a spherical one. Via a computer simulation which includes ray-tracing, we evaluate the sensitivity of the geometric concentration ratio to concentrator design parameters, and the option of using curved versus flat elementary mirrors. The numerical results show that there is no large difference between the two models of Fresnel concentrator. For the spherical model, which seems to be slightly more suitable for this type of application, we propose a simple solution for the receiver displacement, which consists of a single-sided absorber moving tangentially to a sphere centered in the concentrator’s center. 相似文献

The purpose of the work presented in this study is related to heat transfer and airflow modelling analysis in solar chimneys, according to some dominant parameters. A typical case of application is given in this study. It consists in analyzing a natural laminar convective heat transfer problem taking place in a chimney. Heat transfer and fluid dynamic aspects of the airflow, through an axis symmetric system in a dimensionless form, with well defined boundary conditions is thus examined. Results are related to the temperature distribution and the velocity field in the chimney and in the collector, determined by solving the energy equation, and the Navier–Stokes equations, using finite volume method. The numerical code based on this modelling is validated through the Vahl Davis benchmark solution for natural convection and to other authors for other cases. 相似文献

This paper reports line-of-sight propagation measurements performed at 37.2GHz between two terminals in an empty room in order to investigate the spatialand temporal fadings in terms of antenna directivity and human motion,respectively. The empirical data base consists of recordings of CW envelopefading waveforms with a fixed transmitter and either moving or stationaryreceiver. The reported results include amplitude fading distributions,propagation loss gradients, level crossing rates and fade durationsstatistics. This work concerns the variational formulation and the numerical computation of internal acoustic problems with absorbing walls. The originality of the proposed approach, compared to other existing methods, is the introduction of the normal fluid displacement field on the damped walls. This additional variable allows to transpose formulations in frequency domain to time domain when the fluid is described by a scalar field (pressure or fluid displacement potential). With this new scalar unknown, various absorbing wall models can be introduced in the variational formulation.
