According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations reports, approximately half of the total harvested fruits and vegetables vanish before they reach the end consumer due to their perishable nature. Enzymatic browning is one of the most common problems faced by fruit and vegetable processing. The perishability of fruits and vegetables is contributed by the various browning enzymes (polyphenol oxidase, peroxidase, and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase) and ripening or cell wall degrading enzyme (pectin methyl-esterase). In contrast, antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase and catalase) assist in reversing the damage caused by reactive oxygen species or free radicals. The cold plasma technique has emerged as a novel, economic, and environmentally friendly approach that reduces the expression of ripening and browning enzymes while increasing the activity of antioxidant enzymes; microorganisms are significantly inhibited, therefore improving the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. This review narrates the mechanism and principle involved in the use of cold plasma technique as a nonthermal agent and its application in impeding the activity of browning and ripening enzymes and increasing the expression of antioxidant enzymes for improving the shelf life and quality of fresh fruits and vegetables and preventing spoilage and pathogenic germs from growing. An overview of hurdles and sustainability advantages of cold plasma technology is presented. 相似文献
A series of Er~(3+) ions doped lithium lead alumino borate(LiPbAlB) glasses were synthesized via melt quench method and their structural, physical and optical properties were studied.Judd-Ofelt theory in correlation with the emission and absorption profiles was performed for the measurement of various radiative parameters for different transitions of Er~(3+) doped glasses. The as-prepared glasses show deep green(550 nm) as well as NIR(1532 nm) emission at 380 and 980 nm excitation wavelengths, respectively. The intensity of emission spectra increases with Er~(3+) ions concentration up to 1.5 mol% and beyond quenching is observed. The Dexter theory applied to the emission profiles reveals the interaction between Er~(3+)ions as dipole-dipole in nature.CIE color coordinates are found to fall in the green region of the visible spectrum. It is observed that 1.5 mol% of Er~(3+) ions concentration is optimum to exhibit the maximum quantum efficiency, branching ratios, gain bandwidth, emission cross-section,gain crosssection and aptly suitable for visible and NIR photonic applications. 相似文献
High performance dielectric materials are highly required for practical application for energy storage technologies. In this work, high-k pristine and modified calcium copper titanate having nominal formula Ca0.95Nd0.05Cu3Ti4?xZrxO12 (x?=?0.01, 0.03 & 0.10) were synthesized and characterized for structural and dielectric properties. Single phase formation of the synthesized compositions was confirmed by X-ray diffraction patterns and further analysed using Rietveld refinement technique. Phase purity of the synthesized ceramics was further confirmed by Energy-dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX) analysis. SEM images demonstrated that grain size of the modified CCTO ceramics was controlled by Zr4+ ions due to solute drag effect. Impedance spectroscopy was employed to understand the grain, grain boundaries and electrode contribution to the dielectric response. Nyquist plots were fitted with a 2R-CPE model which confirms the non-ideality of the system. Substitution of specific concentration of Nd and Zr improved the dielectric properties of high dielectric permittivity (ε′ ~?16,902) and minimal tanδ (≤?0.10) over a wide frequency range. The giant ε′ of the investigated system was attributed to internal barrier layer capacitance (IBLC) effect and reduced tanδ accredited to enhanced grain boundaries resistance due to substitution of Zr4+ ions at Ti4+ site. 相似文献
In this work, Sr and Zn co-doped calcium copper titanate having nominal formula Ca0.90Sr0.10Cu3Ti3.95Zn0.05O12 has been synthesized and systematically studied for structure, dielectric and electrical properties. The phase purity of the prepared composition has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern and various structural parameters are presented here with Rietveld refinement data. The Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image revealed the presence of homogeneous fine-grained microstructure investigated in the prepared ceramic. The impedance data well fitted with 2 R-CPE model confirmed the non-ideality of the system. Dielectric studies have shown the existence of two relaxation processes in low and high frequency domains. Low frequency dielectric response proposed as a combination of Maxwell-Wagner relaxation and intrinsic defect (Vo++) while high frequency behavior has been interpreted in terms of polaronic relaxation caused by hopping process of an electron between Ti3+ and Ti4+ states. The frequency dependent behavior of conductivity has been well fitted to Dong’s model and interpreted in term of Overlapping Large Polaron Tunneling (OLPT) mechanism. The various parameters; relaxation angular frequency (ω1) of Debye process, ionic hopping frequency (ω2), dc conductivity (σo), cole- cole parameter (α) and frequency exponent (s) have been determined by Dong’s Model fitting. 相似文献
Rapid digestion and absorption of carbohydrates have become a health issue (high glycaemic index, GI), which can be a matter of greater concern when consumed in large quantities. Depending upon the influence of carbohydrates on the blood sugar levels, GI classifies carbohydrates (on a scale of 100) as low (<55), medium (55–70) and high (>70) GI foods. Among the pseudocereals, chia seed possesses relatively lower GI (28.53), as compared to buckwheat (52.35), amaranth (47.65) and quinoa (61.50). Consumers now prefer foods with a high GI over the ones with low GI to prevent various metabolic alterations. Celiac disease is a lifelong disorder prevalent worldwide and can only be controlled by following a strict lifelong gluten-free diet. Therefore, pseudocereals could be a potential alternate for low GI food and developing gluten-free food products, including bread, cookies, noodles and pasta. This review synthesises the recently published literatures on pseudocereals as a lowering GI and healthy food option. This review also gives insights into developing pseudocereals as a potential and novel ingredient for gluten-free food applications and the latest research conducted worldwide. 相似文献
In this paper, a model of two dimensional problem of generalized thermoelasticity for a fiber-reinforced anisotropic elastic medium under the effect of temperature dependent properties is established. Reflection phenomena of plane waves in an initially stressed thermoelastic medium is studied in the context of two theories proposed by Lord–Shulman and Green–Lindsay. Using proper boundary conditions, the amplitude ratios and energy ratios for various reflected waves are presented. The phase speeds, reflection coefficients and energy ratios are computed numerically with the help of MATLAB programming and are depicted graphically to show the effect of initial stress and temperature dependent properties. It is found that there is no dissipation of energy at the boundary surface during reflection. A comparison between the two theories is also depicted in the present investigation.
