Amphiphilic magnetic microspheres ranging in diameter from 5 to 100 µm were prepared by dispersion copolymerization of styrene and poly(ethylene oxide) vinylbenzyl (PEO‐VB) macromonomer (MPEO) in the presence of Fe3O4 magnetic fluid. The effects of various polymerization parameters on the average particle size were systematically investigated. The average particle size was found to increase with increasing styrene concentration and initiator concentration. It also increased with decreasing stabilizer concentration and molecular weight of MPEO. The content of the hydroxyl groups localized in the microspheres ranged from 0.01 to 0.2 mmol g?1. © 2003 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

This letter analyzes Bluetooth's power-control algorithm with a goal to study the mean transmit power required in the presence of lognormal shadowing. The following results are found. 1) A smaller power-control step size yields a lower mean transmit power. 2) When the standard deviations of lognormal shadowing are 3 and 6 dB, respectively, a Bluetooth device needs to consume 11.1 dB and 15.0 dB more in the transmit energy than the minimum one required in the absence of shadowing. 3) The transmit energy consumption varies by around 6 dB among Bluetooth devices as a result of the /spl plusmn/6 dB tolerance in the golden receive power range, which has a nominal size of 20 dB.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of a study in the design of a neural network based adaptive robotic control scheme. The neural network used here is a two hidden layer feedforward network and the learning scheme is the well-known backpropagation algorithm. The neural network essentially provides the inverse of the plant and acts in conjunction with a standard PD controller in the feedback loop. The objective of the controller is to accurately control the end position of a single link manipulator in the presence of large payload variations, variations in the link length and also variations in the damping constant. Based on results of this study, guidelines are presented in selecting the number of neurons in the hidden layers and also the parameters for the learning scheme used for training the network. Results also indicate that increasing the number of neurons in the hidden layer will improve the convergence speed of learning scheme up to a certain limit beyond which the addition of neurons will cause oscillations and instability. Guidelines for selecting the proper learning rate, momentum and fast backpropagation constant that ensure stability and convergence are presented. Also, a relationship between the r.m.s. error and the number of iterations used in training the neural network is established.  相似文献

A major concern of researchers using state data sets for population-based analyses and market share studies in the health care sector is the potential bias caused by 'border crossing'--patients receiving care out of state. By using the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) discharge abstract files for 1987 and 1988, we found that 'border crossing' is not a serious problem for the two large states we examined. Only 4.4% of New York patients and 2.15% of California patients received care out of state. At the county and zip code level, 'border crossing' is more frequent but tends to be concentrated in areas adjacent to other states. Even excluding all zips with more than 10% of patients crossing the 'border' results in a small loss of patients (2.2% for New York and 1.0% for California).  相似文献

According to hopelessness theory, hopelessness expectancy is the proximal, sufficient cause of hopelessness depression. Consequently, hopelessness expectancy is viewed as mediating the influence of all other factors on hopelessness depression. Using a longitudinal research design, hopelessness expectancy was examined as a mediator of the relation between illness attributions and hopelessness depression in a sample of 57 adults with rheumatoid arthritis. Although hopelessness expectancy was a strong predictor of hopelessness depression, it moderated rather than mediated the relation between attributions and depression. Finding support for a moderating rather than a mediating model is inconsistent with theory but is consistent with the findings of J. H. Riskind et al (1987). OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect on various aspects of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism of administering a quick-release formulation of bromocriptine (Ergoset) to obese, nondiabetic, hyperinsulinemic women. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Hourly concentrations of prolactin, glucose, insulin, free fatty acid (FFA), and triglyceride were measured for 24 h before and after approximately 8 weeks of treatment with Ergoset. In addition, fasting lipid and lipoprotein concentrations and the steady-state plasma glucose (SSPG) concentration in response to a continuous infusion of somatostatin, insulin, and glucose were determined before and after Ergoset administration. RESULTS: Circulating prolactin concentrations were dramatically decreased (P < 0.001) following treatment, associated with a significant fall (P < 0.05) in 24-h-long plasma glucose, FFA, and triglyceride concentrations. Neither circulating plasma insulin concentrations nor the ability of insulin to mediate glucose disposal changed with treatment. Finally, fasting total cholesterol fell (P < 0.05) and the ratio of total to HDL cholesterol decreased (P = 0.06) in association with Ergoset treatment. CONCLUSIONS: The fact that significant metabolic improvement was seen in the obese nondiabetic hyperinsulinemic women studied suggests that Ergoset could be of therapeutic benefit in clinical conditions of hyperglycemia and/or dyslipidemia.  相似文献

Chromium is a redox active 3d transition metal with a wide range of valences (−2 to +6) that control the geochemistry and toxicity of the element. Therefore, techniques that measure Cr valence are important bio/geochemical tools. Until now, all established methods to determine Cr valence were bulk techniques with many specific to a single, or at best, only a few oxidation state(s). We report an electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) technique along with an extensive suite of affined reference spectra that together, unlike other methods, can determine Cr valence (or at least constrain the possible valences) at high-spatial resolution (tens-of-nanometer scale) across a wide valence range, Cr(0)–Cr(VI). Fine structure of Cr-L2,3 edges was parametrized by measurement of the chemical shift of the L3 edge and the ratio of integrated intensity under the L3 and L2 edges. These two parameterizations were correlated to Cr valence and also the dn orbital configuration which has a large influence on L-edge fine structure. We demonstrate that it is not possible to unambiguously determine Cr valence from only one fine-structure parameterization which is the method employed to determine metal valence by nearly all previous EELS studies. Rather, multiple fine-structure parameterizations must be used together if the full range of possible Cr valences is considered. However even with two parameterizations, there are limitations. For example, distinguishing Cr(IV) from Cr(III) is problematic and it may be difficult to distinguish low-spin Cr(II) from Cr(III). Nevertheless, when Cr is known to be divalent, low- and high-spin dn orbital configurations can be readily distinguished.  相似文献
