The research reported in the article focuses on modifying glass fiber surfaces with polyacrylic acid (PAA) compounds. E-glass fibers were treated with aqueous polyacrylic acid solution. Polyacrylic acid exchanges its protons with the ions present in the glass surface. Hydrolyzed metal cations may form salt complexes with the dissociated polyacrylic acid. Angular dependent electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA) demonstrated that the atomic concentrations of aluminum and calcium in the glass fiber surface were constant throughout the analyzed interval. The cation exchange property of glass fiber was studied using direct current plasma (DCP), which showed that both calcium and aluminum ions were extracted by low concentration polycrylic acid solutions. ESCA studies of were extracted by low concentrationb polyacrylic acid solutions. ESCA studies of the PAA-treated glass fiber showed that the amount of PAA of the glass surface increases with increased acid concentration. A broadened and shifted ESCA peak of the carbon (0 CO) indicates the formation of salt complexes between the polyacrylic acid and metal ions on the glass surface. Polyacrylie acid was modified by an esterification reaction with glycidyl acrylate (GA) in aqueous solution in order to insert organofuctional groups into the PAA chain.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Our aim was to assess visual acuity using standardized charts and illumination conditions after photorefractive keratectomy. METHODS: High and low contrast visual acuity were measured on Bailey-Lovie logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (LogMAR) charts under high and low illumination conditions on 105 photorefractive keratectomy patients who had been treated with the Summit (N = 60) or the VISX (N = 45) excimer laser. RESULTS: Best corrected visual acuity was reduced in the treated eye compared with the untreated control eye under all test conditions, with the greatest differences under conditions of low contrast and low illumination. Reduction of acuity under low contrast and low illumination was related to small optic zone sizes and steep ablation edge profiles found in Summit-treated eyes. In the VISX-treated eyes, high contrast acuity was reduced in the presence of central topographical irregularities, subepithelial haze, and higher myopic corrections. CONCLUSIONS: Testing conditions such as those described here may be useful in quantifying vision degradation in suboptimal viewing conditions and among patients with vague complaints.  相似文献

We adapt the angular spectrum of plane waves (ASPW) decomposition to numerical simulations of the diffraction of surface-acoustic waves (SAWs) on anisotropic model substrate, such as YZ lithium niobate. We utilize the thin-element decomposition (TED) method, appropriately modified for an anisotropic substrate; we also introduce a novel "average-wavenumber" variation of this scheme; these are numerically found to be mutually consistent. We apply the TED method to simulate wave propagation both in infinite periodic structures of metallized gratings and also in finite gratings. We demonstrate that the ASPW provides a convenient and numerically fast tool for precise diffraction calculations in practical SAW devices which also display structural variations in the lateral direction, perpendicular to the principal direction of wave propagation. Additionally, we compare the present TED method to waveguide theory in an analysis of the role of SAW reflections from the electrodes.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To investigate the proliferative activity of the donor corneal cells and to examine how this property changed during long term culture. METHOD: Fourteen human corneas from donors (ages from 50-91) were cultured in the medium (MEM+8% FBS with or without dextran). The proliferating status of corneal cells was evaluated by immunohistochemical staining of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in the cells. Three corneas at each time point were fixed in paraformalin at day 0, day 3 and after 3 weeks cultured in medium as well as 3 weeks plus 2 or 5 days in fresh medium with 8% dextran. Paraffin-embedded corneas were sectioned to 4 microm and stained with antibody PC 10 against PCNA. The number of PCNA positive cells was identified under light microscope. RESULT: Prior to organ culture only basal limbal epithelial cells stained positive for PCNA. After 3 days in culture 50 percent of the epithelial cells were positive as were several keratocytes and some endothelial cells in the peripheral corneas. After 21 days no cells showed proliferative activity. After 21 days in culture and 5 days in fresh deswelling medium the essentially monolayered epithelium stained positively in the limbal area. The proliferative activity of the keratocytes in the anterior stroma was extensive. Endothelial cells stained positive in the peripheral cornea. CONCLUSION: Limbal epithelial cells appear to survive in the organ culture. The corneas may be worth evaluating as sources of stem cells for grafting. Likewise, the keratocytes survive organ culture and can be induced to proliferate after a change to fresh medium. The endothelium is stimulated to proliferate in organ culture and in fresh medium after long term storage.  相似文献

The goal of this study was to determine the most appropriate hydrodynamic model for the Loc-I-Gut in-vivo perfusion system. The general mixing-tank-in-series model, which can approximate single mixing tank and laminar and plug-flow hydrodynamics, was fitted to the observed experimental residence-time distribution curves for the non-absorbable marker [14C]PEG 4000. The residence-time distribution analysis shows that the hydrodynamics of the perfusion solution within the jejunal segment in man is well approximately by a model containing on average between 1-2 mixing tanks in series. The solution is well mixed when using perfusion rates of 2.0, 3.0 and 6.0 mL min-1. The average mean residence time estimates from the fitted residence-time distribution were 12 +/- 7.6, 15 +/- 4.2 and 7.7 +/- 4.6 min, respectively, at these three perfusion rates. The mean volumes of the segment (Vs) were 25 +/- 15, 45 +/- 12 and 46 +/- 27 mL, respectively. There were no statistical differences between 2.0, 3.0 and 6.0 mL min-1 in respect of the number of mixing tanks (n) and mean residence times. This residence-time distribution analysis indicates that the luminal fluid in the Loc-I-Gut perfusion system is well-mixed, and that permeability calculations based on the well-mixed assumption most closely approximate the actual local (average) membrane permeability within the perfused segment.  相似文献

The adsorption of alkylphenylpoly(oxyethylene)alcohol on E-glass fibres was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, by the Wilhelmy plate method and by streaming-potential measurements. In this study, the glass fibres were conditioned in solutions of different pH. The acid resistance of the E-glass fibres was studied by treating the material with H2SO4. During the acid treatment the surface composition, namely the Si/Al-ratio, was changed, presumably because the aluminium ions were leached out of the glass structure. The alkaline resistance was studied by treating the material with NaOH. The Si/Al-ratio was unaffected by these moderate alkaline solutions. The effect of the surface conditioning in solutions of different pH seemed to be greatest for the acidic solutions giving rise to an increased adsorption of the surfactant on the glass-fibre surface.  相似文献
