Melt index prediction by RBF neural network with an ICO‐VSA hybrid optimization algorithm

Melt index (MI) is considered as one of the most significant parameter to determine the quality and the grade of the practical polypropylene polymerization products. A novel ICO‐VSA‐RNN (RBF neural network with ICO‐VSA algorithm) MI prediction model is proposed based on radial basis function (RBF) neural network and improved chaos optimization (ICO), and variable‐scale analysis (VSA), where the ICO is first added and then combined with the VSA to overcome the defects of ICO and VSA, then the parameters of the RBF neural network are optimized with them. At last, the RBF neural network model for MI prediction model is developed. Further researches on the optimal RBF neural network model of MI prediction are carried out with the data from a real industrial plant, and the prediction results show that the performance of this prediction model is much better than the RBF neural network model without optimization. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Searcher’s little helper - ICO index terms

No matter whether the search interest is in catalysts or catheters, albumins or zeolites, ICO (“In Computer Only”) index terms developed at the EPO since the mid 1980s can definitely be of help. The purpose of this paper is to get the interested search professional more acquainted with ICOs, and the logic behind them will be briefly explained. Examples from the field of homogeneous catalysis (B01J31) and batteries and fuel cells (H01M) will be presented in this context, as well as a selection of suitable commercial databases that include ICO codes.

Effects of heel cushioning elements in safety shoes on muscle–physiological parameters

Safety shoe designs are primarily based on safety requirements. But all-day comfort should not be luxury: Heel strike associated impact loads on joints need to be compensated by active muscular effort and safety shoes should support this protective function of muscle activation. In 10 healthy men, 12 trunk and leg muscles were analyzed with surface electromyography. Subjects walked on a walkway while wearing different safety shoes with the test shoes being equipped with exchangeable cushioning heel inserts according to individuals' body weight. While wearing the optimally cushioned shoes the cumulative muscle activity per distance travelled dropped clearly compared to the regular safety shoes, demonstrating reduced muscular effort. Also, the heel strike associated amplitude peak of back muscles occurred earlier within the stride while wearing the test shoes. Thus weight-balanced cushioning heel inserts in safety shoes proved able to reduce muscle strain, logically delaying muscular fatigue and extending muscular joint protection.Relevance to industryAdjustable heel inserts in safety shoes are suited to improve the health status of employees by reducing muscular effort so that active joint protection can be prolonged.
