Change of characteristics of desulfurization and denitrification by combustion flue gas composition and electrode configuration under pulsed corona discharge

Laboratory-scale and parametric experiments of SO₂ and NO_x removal from the simulated combustion gas by pulsed corona discharge have been performed by changing the combustion gas composition and temperature, the electrode configuration of plasma reactor, and the polarity of high-voltage electrode. The following results are obtained: 1) the higher the concentration of H₂O and O₂, the higher the efficiency of desulfurization and denitrification at the same specific input; 2) the pulsed corona discharge with a voltage pulsewidth as short as 200 ns of negative polarity shows the possibility to attain almost 90 percent deSO_x and deNO_x efficiency at the specific discharge input of 20 J/g, which is almost the same as the specific input in the electron-beam process; 3) the deNO_x characteristics show a little temperature dependence in the range of 70 to 130°C, but the deSO_x efficiency increases rapidly in the temperature region below 100°C suggesting the thermochemical dependence of deSO_x reaction; 4) when desulfurization and denitrification proceed, the white dendritic powder deposits on the plasma reactor whose composition is identified to be 49 mol% (NH₄)₂SO₄ and 47 mol% of 2NH₄NO₃ · (NH₄)₂SO₄, and the ratio of SO₂, NO and NH₃ of the deposit is almost equal to that of supplied gas.     

Combinatorial materials research applied to the development of new surface coatings: II. Process capability analysis of the coating formulation workflow

A combinatorial process has been developed for the high throughput production and evaluation of surface coatings. The workflow designed for the production of arrays of liquid coatings involves the robotic transfer of aliquots of solutions of raw materials to an array of glass vials and mixing of the coatings using an unconventional magnetic stirring process. An investigation of the capability of the workflow to accurately and repeatedly prepare coating arrays was conducted as a function of solution viscosity and aliquot size. In addition, mixing capability was evaluated as a function of solution viscosity, total solution volume, and mechanism of stirring. Overall, the results of the study indicated that adequate accuracy and repeatability of the coating preparation process can be achieved as long as raw material solutions are designed such that viscosity is below about 250 cP and aliquot sizes are above about 75 μl. With regard to mixing capability, total solution volume was found to have a profound affect as did the stirring mechanism.

THE IRREVERSIBLE ADSORPTION OF PLUTONIUM HEXAFLUORIDE†

The room temperature adsorption of PuF_6(g) on a solid substrate was compared to the adsorption of UF6(g) on the same surface. Significantly more PuF_6(g) was adsorbed at pressures in the range of 1.2 to 0.2torr, accompanied by the evolution of molecular fluorine. The adsorbed UF₆ was easily desorbed by reducing the pressure. Most of the adsorbed PuF₆ remained on the surface when subjected to the same treatment.     

Correlation of reactivity and electrical resistivity of coke

A correlation between the reactivity and electrical resistivity of a series of cokes was determined using cokes prepared from blends of medium- and high-volatile coals. After correcting for the ash yield of the coke and the density of the resistivity specimen, a statistically significant relation between reactivity and resistivity was established. As the resistivity test requires much less time to perform than the reactivity test, it can be considered as an alternative approach to reactivity testing currently performed for quality control purposes.

The reduction/oxidation behaviour of MnAPO-5 as studied by ESR spectroscopy

It is shown by ESR spectroscopy that Mn²⁺ ions in MnAPO-5 are oxidized to Mn³⁺ during calcination atT475 K. Mn²⁺ occupies variously distorted tetrahedral positions within the framework and in extra-lattice sites. Octahedrally coordinated Mn²⁺ presumably located in the channels becomes detectable after adsorption of water. The ESR spectra of reduced MnAPO-5 show line-narrowing due to spin exchange interactions. The material behaves reversible in redox cycles at temperatures near 500 K.

Δ3-1,2,4—噻二唑类化合物具有抑制黄瓜霜霉病毒的杀菌活性。本文用半经验PM3方法对25个该类化合物进行了量子化学计算,并依据原子的净电荷、前沿轨道能级、轨道主要成分及原子在前沿轨道中所占比重等计算结果和多重回归分析讨论了该类化合物的活性部位,为该类化合物结构与活性的研究奠定了理论基础。
