This paper analyzes the performance of a switching architecture. The performance measures include the elapsed time of packet transfer and the waiting time to begin transfer. The architecture is partitioned depending on the type of network used and the expected traffic in the network. Every partition has a switch with a buffer that can absorb surges of bursty traffic within the network partition. The buffer size depends on the type of the network and incoming traffic. The partition size depends on the network bandwidth, network traffic, packet size and buffer size. Examples of different networks are used to show the applications of the model. The results show that the elapsed time of packet switch transfer depends exponentially on the number of partitions in the network.  相似文献

In ATM networks the requirement of providing the negotiated Quality of Service (QOS) needs an efficient flow enforcement technique that will result in preventive congestion control. A very effective technique is the Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) method. In this paper, we have suggested improvements to the EWMA and call it the Enhanced EWMA (EEWMA). Simulation results show that the EEWMA is consistently better than the EWMA in most of the situations. We present comparisons of cell loss under various conditions. 拥塞现象成为TCP/IP网络发展面临的一个重要问题。因此,拥塞控制对TCP/IP网络的鲁棒性和稳定性具有重要作用。目前,网络拥塞控制策略主要包括两类:端到端的控制机制,如TCP拥塞控制算法;网络内部的主动队列管理(AQM)策略。但由于缺乏对网络系统动态特性的了解,这些拥塞控制策略大都基于专家经验,并没有建立完整的理论分析框架。为此,本文从数据流的角度出发,通过建立网络基本单元状态方程模型来实现IP网络系统的数学解析模型,然后用混杂系统来描述TCP带有拥塞控制策略的数据传输过程,建立了TCP/IP网络的动态模型,为网络系统中动态性能的分析、拥塞控制策略的设计奠定了基础。实验结果表明,该数学模型与NS仿真实验的结果相一致。  相似文献

The TFRC protocol has been proposed as a TCP‐friendly protocol to transport streaming media over the Internet. However, its deployment is still questionable because it has not been compared to other important protocols, analysed in the presence of important mechanisms, such as the explicit congestion notification (ECN), and studied under more realistic network conditions. In this paper, we address these three aspects, including other congestion control protocols not considered before in the same investigation, such as TCP Tahoe, Reno, Newreno, Vegas, Sack, GAIMD, and the Binomial algorithms, the effect of using ECN in the friendliness of the protocols, and the fairness of the protocols under static and dynamic network conditions. We found that TFRC can be safely deployed in the Internet if competing with TCP Tahoe, New Reno and SACK since fairness is achieved under all scenarios considered. We also found that ECN actually helps in achieving better fairness. However, fairness problems arise when TFRC competes with TCP Reno, GAIMD, SQRT or IIAD in static or dynamic conditions, or both. Government energy pricing policies have multiple and often conflicting objectives: economic efficiency, government revenues (for both parastatal supply companies and the treasury), maintenance or improvement of income distribution, promotion of particular sectors (such as industrial exporters and local resource development) demand management and security of supply. It is important to examine the impacts on and the trade-offs between these objectives resulting from alternative policies in order to assist in policy selection. This article discusses the more important objectives and their conflicts and outlines an approach for the quantitative examination of alternative policies.  相似文献

Economic ideas and processes are becoming increasingly integrated with more traditional engineering and hydrologic models of water management problems. Combining economic management concepts and performance indicators with an engineering-level of understanding of a hydrologic system can provide results and insights more directly relevant for water management decisions and policies. When such models are developed and used with involvement of stakeholders, they can become a basis for shared understanding of water problems as a foundation for negotiated management and policy solutions. When implemented with optimization software, integrated hydro-economic models also can suggest promising innovative solutions for policy-makers to consider. Their applications to river basin management problems are reviewed. Economic and integrated economic-engineering-hydrologic modeling is then discussed in the context of the evolving European Water Framework Directive. Relevant items are cost recovery and water pricing, cost-effectiveness of water management measures, and public participation in decision processes.  相似文献

A real-time road pricing system in the case of a two-link parallel network is proposed in this paper. The system that is based on a combination of Dynamic Programming and Neural Networks makes “on-line” decisions about road toll values. In the first phase of the proposed model, the best road toll sequences during certain time period are calculated off-line for many different patterns of vehicle arrivals. These toll sequences are computed using Dynamic Programming approach. In the second phase, learning from vehicle arrival patterns and the corresponding optimal toll sequences, neural network is trained. The results obtained during on-line tests are close to the best solution obtained off-line assuming that the arrival pattern is known.  相似文献
