Abstract

This paper is dedicated to the memory of Professor Sir Robert Honeycombe, who examined the first author's PhD thesis on this subject in 1972. The paper reviews some of the very large improvements in the understanding of the formation of textures and microstructures in drawing quality steels in both their deformed and recrystallised states made since the 1970s, focusing in particular on deformation bending in interstitial free steels.  相似文献

Abstract

Controlling the annealing cycle in a hot dip galvanising line (HDGL) is vital if each coil treated is to be properly galvanised and the steel is to have the right properties. Current HDGL furnace control models usually take into account the dimensions of the coil to be dipped and, in some cases, the type of steel. This paper presents a new model for monitoring furnace temperature settings, which considers not just the coil dimensions but also the chemical composition of the steel. This enables the model to be adjusted more suitably to each type of steel to be dipped, so that the HDGL annealing cycle is optimised and rendered more efficient in dealing with new products. The ultimate aim is to find a model that is equally efficient for new types of steel coil that have not been processed before and whose dimensions and chemical compositions are different from coils processed previously. To find the best model, this paper compares various new and classical algorithms for developing a precise and efficient prediction model capable of determining the three temperature settings for heating on an HDGL located in Avilés (Spain) on the basis of the physical and chemical characteristics of the coils to be processed and the preset process conditions.  相似文献

Abstract

Dissimilar welding of the aged alloy 800 and the as cast 25Cr–35Ni (wt-%) heat resistant steel was investigated. Microstructures, mechanical properties and weldability of the dissimilar welds were characterised using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transition electron microscopy equipped by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and Varestraint test. Since such dissimilar welding was susceptible to crack formation in the heat affected zone of the aged part, the effects of a preweld solution annealing, heat input, interpass temperature and type of filler metal on the weldability of two alloys were investigated. It was found that during the solution treatment, the precipitates produced in the service stage were decomposed and that TiC was formed. In addition, tensile strength and hardness were reduced, but ductility and toughness increased. It was concluded that the most important step to improve weldability and to reduce cracking susceptibility was solution annealing. A suitable annealing treatment was then proposed. The best weldability was found under conditions of solution annealing, low heat input, low interpass temperature and using Inconel 82 or 617 for filler metals.  相似文献

Abstract

Numerical simulation of the powder injection moulding of the stainless steel feedstock was performed using finite elements/finite differences method. Influence of the process parameters on the temperature development in the moulded part was estimated. Frictional heating between the layers of the feedstock with different viscosity may cause the temperature rise to a level dangerous for the integrity of the feedstock. Both process conditions and position of the gate affect the temperature distribution within the part. The temperature homogeneity can be improved by optimisation of the mould design and process conditions.  相似文献

Abstract

The microstructural transformations and the dimensional evolution of green specimens obtained by pressing mixtures of austenitic and ferritic stainless steel powders have been investigated by sintering at 1120 and 1240°C. Dilatometry experiments show that the linear shrinkage is influenced by the amount of ferritic powder. Moreover, during sintering Ni diffuses into the ferritic grains causing austenite destabilisation and the formation of a mixed constituent, whose constitution has been investigated by means of EDXS and interpreted on the basis of the Schaeffler diagram. Sigma phase also forms during sintering of the duplex mixtures.  相似文献

Abstract

In the present study, a stepwise model based on the enclosure concept has been applied to an annealing line heating furnace. The model has been satisfactorily tested using three industrial manufacturing data sets. As temperature measurement inside the furnace is difficult, the model could be used to improve control and to obtain the outlet temperature of the steel strip, the heat transfer rate loss and the strip heat transfer rate throughout the length of the furnace. Variations in the thermodynamic properties included in the model and in the operational conditions, which cannot be accurately known, have been tested to ascertain their effects on the evolution of the strip temperature. It is found that precise knowledge of the heat capacity and heating power introduced in the furnace are important to obtain good results in application of the model.  相似文献

An investigation is described in which various polyfunctional compounds were applied to wool in attempts to stabilize the temporary improvements in wrinkle-recovery brought about by ‘annealing’. Abstract

It is important that the green strength properties of powder compacts be accurately determined if advanced manufacturing techniques, such as green machining, are to be exploited successfully. In this study, the green strength of Distaloy AE Densmix, a powder mix designed for such applications, was measured using several test methods. Fracture statistics were correlated with compact density and test method employed, and the Weibull modulus calculated for each case. It was found that Weibull analysis accurately predicted the green strength dependence on the test configuration utilised.  相似文献

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to determine the elastic modulus of magnesium based composites containing different volume fractions of SiC particulate using an innovative suspended beam type impact based technique. This applies classical vibration theory, which relates the resonant frequency of the test specimens to the geometry and material properties of the metal matrix composites. The elastic modulus values were determined from the funda mental resonant frequency obtained from the experiment and density measurements. In addition, a finite element model was proposed for determining the dynamic elastic modulus of MMCs with different SiC reinforcement content using the first natural frequency corresponding to the flexural mode. The elastic modulus values obtained from the finite element model were in close agreement with the values obtained from the impact based experiments and in better agreement than those from theoretical methods such as the shear lag, Eshelby, and Halpin–Tsai models.  相似文献
