ABSTRACT Thin-layer re-wetting experiments were conducted with medium grain rough rice in the temperature range of 17.8 to 45°C and for relative humidities between 56 and 89.3%, with initial moisture contents in the range of 10.26 to 12.71% dry-basis to determine the diffusion coefficient of rough rice. Recent efforts to characterize the re-wetting characteristics of rough rice are summarized. New equation for temperature dependent liquid diffusion coefficients for medium grain rough rice are presented. The diffusion coefficient in re-wetting was lower than the drying. The results presented here, over typically five day re-wetting, will be useful in studying the longer term moisture transfer process occurring during ventilated storage. 相似文献

Three arylferrocene derivatives, ferrocenylbenzene (MFcB), 1,3-diferrocenylbenzene (DFcB), and 1,3,5-triferrocenylbenzene (TFcB), were prepared and their redox properties systematically explored by thin-layer cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential-pulse voltammetry (DPV). In contrast to conventional CV measurements that produced only a single pair of redox waves for all three compounds, the thin-layer technique discriminated between the multistep electron-transfer processes of DFcB and TFcB. In particular, two and three pairs of symmetric peaks were observed, respectively, when CV curves were recorded at a graphite electrode coated with a DFcB-containing and a TFcB-containing thin film of nitrobenzene and immersed in aqueous sodium perchlorate solution. These results demonstrate that the ferrocenyl moieties attached to the meta-positions of a benzene ring communicate electronically with each other, as a result of their distinct face-to-face orientations. 相似文献

The back-propagation (BP) and generalized regression neural network models (GRNN) were investigated to predict the thin layer drying behavior in municipal sewage sludge during hot air forced convection. The accuracy of the BP model to predict the moisture content of the sewage sludge thin layer during hot air forced convective drying was far higher than that of the GRNN model. The GRNN models could automatically determine the best smoothing parameters, which were 0.6 and 0.3 for predicting the moisture content and average temperature, respectively. The model type for predicting the average temperature of the sewage sludge thin layer was selected for different sample groups by comparing their MSE values or R2 values. The GRNN model was suitable for predicting the average temperature corresponding to the sample groups at hot air velocity of 0.6 m/s, and drying temperatures of 100 °C, 160 °C; hot air velocity of 1.4 m/s, and drying temperatures of 130 °C, 140 °C; hot air velocity of 2.0 m/s, and drying temperatures of 150 °C, 160 °C. A bacterium with potent agar-degrading capability was isolated from the surface of a red algae, Gracilaria tenuistipitata. Based on phenotypic characteristics, 16S rDNA gene sequence and a phylogenetic analysis, this bacterium was identified and named as Flammeovirga yaeyamensis strain YT. PCR using homology-based degenerate primers was employed to clone any agarase gene belonging to GH16 family encoded in F. yaeyamensis strain YT. The resolved 1512 nucleotides revealed that the cloned gene, namely AgaYT, encodes a protein of 503 amino acids comprising a signal peptide, a glycosyl hydrolase catalytic module and a C-terminal domain with an unknown function. The recombinant protein r-AgaYT is an endo-type β-agarase hydrolyzing agarose to yield neoagarobiose and neoagarotetraose as the main hydrolytic products. Thin layer drying rates of purslane were determined experimentally as a function of temperature with air velocity kept constant at 1.1 m/s and relative humidity below 5%. Thin layer drying data were obtained for purslane at four drying air temperatures (35, 70, 95, and 120°C). Five thin layer-drying models (Henderson and Pabis, exponential, Page, two-term exponential, and Thompson models) were fitted to the drying data. The color of purslane was determined after drying using a spectro-colorimeter (Hunter Lab) in terms of Hunter L, a, and b values. The Page model was found to be most suitable in describing the drying characteristics of purslane. New parameters developed for the model resulted in a good fit at different temperatures. Color measurement indicated that greenness decreased with an increase in drying air temperature. Typical drying times were 88.41, 138.53, 416.38, and 1371.85 min at 120, 95, 70, and 35°C, respectively. 相似文献

This paper extends and broadens our present knowledge concerning hydro-dyanmics and heat transfer during boiling of liquids in a thin-layer evaporator equipped with a spiral element. The application of the spiral element in the thin-layer evaporator of static type (STLE) radically changes the hydrodynamics and consequently the rate of heat transfer. Measurements were carried out on distilled water and ethylene glycol. 416 measurements of individual heat transfer coefficients (IHTC) were performed which included 86 measurements in the STLE, 77 measurements in the thin-layer evaporator equipped with immovable spiral element (TLE) with (ISE), and 253 measurements in the thin-layer evaporator with movable spiral element (TLE) with (MSE). Experimental data were correlated using similarity theory and dimensional analysis. The experimental results obtained in the TLE with MSE were compared with adequate data obtained in the TLE with ISE. In the investigated range of frequency and amplitude the increase of IHTC amounted to 10·1% for distilled water and for ethylene glycol 30·7%. 相似文献

Thin-layer drying of moist flax fiber was performed at four temperatures of 30, 50, 70, and 100°C with a constant absolute humidity of 0.0065 kg water per kg dry air. The coefficients of diffusion of the fiber at different drying conditions were estimated by modeling the drying process using the one- to five-term solutions of the second Fick's law of diffusion. The models underestimated the drying process during the initial stages of drying and overestimated this process during the final stages. The estimated coefficient of diffusions ranged from 5.11 × 10-9 to 1.92 × 10-8 m2/s and linearly increased with the drying air temperature. 相似文献

The dielectric and morphological changes of susceptors during heating in a microwave oven were studied.
