The polymorph method, which provides phase analysis from a small number of integrated intensities in a powder diffraction scan, is adapted for the determination of monoclinic zirconia in a mixture with cubic, tetragonal. and orthorhombic zirconias and the γ-phase (Mg2 Zr5 O12 ). Such a mixture is representative of Mg-PSZ after subeutectoid aging. The quantitative determination of the monoclinic depends in principle on a knowledge of the relative amounts of the other phases present in the mixture. It is demonstrated, however, that without this knowledge, even in complex mixtures, the traditional polymorph method analysis gives an acceptable estimate of the monoclinic fraction in the sample. 相似文献

Super Ultra-Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SUSANS) studies over wave vector transfers of 10–4 nm–1 to 10–3 nm–1 afford information on micrometer-size agglomerates in samples. Using a right-angled magnetic air prism, we have achieved a separation of ≈10 arcsec between ≈2 arcsec wide up- and down-spin peaks of 0.54 nm neutrons. The SUSANS instrument has thus been equipped with the polarized neutron option. The samples are placed in a uniform vertical field of 8.8 × 104 A/m (1.1 kOe). Several magnetic alloy ribbon samples broaden the up-spin neutron peak significantly over the ±1.3 × 10–3 nm–1 range, while leaving the down-spin peak essentially unaltered. Fourier transforms of these SUSANS spectra corrected for the instrument resolution, yield micrometer-range pair distribution functions for up- and down-spin neutrons as well as the nuclear and magnetic scattering length density distributions in the samples. 相似文献

We are developing a high-efficiency neutron detector with 1 cm position resolution and coarse energy resolution for use at high-flux neutron source facilities currently proposed or under construction. The detector concept integrates a segmented 3He ionization chamber with the position sensitive, charged particle collection methods of a MicroMegas detector. Neutron absorption on the helium produces protons and tritons that ionize the fill gas. The charge is amplified in the field region around a wire mesh and subsequently detected in current mode by wire strips mounted on a substrate. One module consisting of a high-voltage plate, a field-shaping high-voltage plate, a grid and wire strips defines a detection region. For 100 % efficiency, detector modules are consecutively placed along the beam axis. Analysis over several regions with alternating wire strip orientation provides a two-dimensional beam profile. By using 3He, a 1/v absorption gas, each axial region captures neutrons of a different energy range, providing an energy-sensitive detection scheme especially useful at continuous beam sources. 相似文献

We present a new value for the neutron lifetime of 878.5 ± 0.7stat. ± 0.3syst. This result differs from the world average value by 6.5 standard deviations and by 5.6 standard deviations from the previous most precise result. Cellulose nitrate films were examined for thermal neutron monitoring in contact with several kinds of (n, α) converter materials such as a plastic sheet doped with 1% boron, a solidified boron oxide plate, a single crystal plate of boron oxide and that of lithium fluoride. After thermal neutron irradiation in a research reactor, the films were etched in alkaline solution. The etch-pits on the films were counted with a spark counter. The single crystal converter of lithium fluoride was found to be the most sensitive for thermal neutron. A method for producing the single crystal converter was described. Linear relation between thermal neutron fluence and spark counts was found to be in the fluence range of 2 × 10?6–3 × 107n/cm2 in case of using a lithium fluoride single crystal converter. 相似文献
