Abstract

The formability of welded dual phase 590 (DP 590) steel sheets was investigated, using both friction stir welding and laser welding. Similar and dissimilar gauge sheets were joined using both processes. The laser welded sheets were produced under process conditions typical of industrial production of tailor welded blanks. The friction stir welded specimens were produced in a lab, where different tool rotational speeds and translation speeds were investigated in order to obtain good weld properties. The formability of the welded sheets was evaluated using a series of mechanical tests, including transverse tension and plane strain formability testing. Friction stir welded specimens performed about the same as laser welded specimens in transverse tension testing; however, hardness profiles showed that the laser welds had greater peak hardness than the friction stir welds. Therefore plane strain formability tests were performed with the welds oriented along the major strain direction. When this type of weld stretching was performed the friction stir welded sheets were shown to be ~20% more formable than the laser welded sheets.  相似文献

Abstract

Ceramic cores play an essential role in investment casting. In this paper, gelcasting process has been successfully employed to fabricate alumina based ceramic cores containing yttria for single crystal and directional solidification blades. Based on an investigation of the formability of different ceramic slurries, material compositions of ceramic cores are determined by experiments. A proper sintering process is developed to get low sintered shrinkage, high apparent porosity and high room temperature flexural strength. The high temperature properties of ceramic cores are improved by dipping in water based yttria sol and resintering. The test results show that comprehensive properties of alumina based ceramic cores containing yttria fabricated by gelcasting are better than those of AC-1 ceramic cores made by the Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials, China, and that the ceramic cores can be applied to single crystal and directional solidification blade casting.  相似文献

Abstract

A new X-ray diffraction method for characterising thermal mismatch stress (TMS) in SiCw–Al composite has been developed. The TMS and thermal mismatch strain (TMSN) in SiC whiskers are considered to be axis symmetrical, and can be calculated by measuring the lattice distortion of the whiskers. Not only the average TMS in whiskers and matrix can be obtained, but the TMS components along longitudinal and radial directions in the SiC whiskers can also be deduced. Experimental results indicate that the TMS in SiC whiskers is compressive, and tensile in the aluminium matrix. The TMS and TMSN components along the longitudinal direction in the SiC whiskers are greater than those along the radial direction for a SiCw–Al composite quenched at 500°C.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper aims to evaluate the formability of tailor welded blanks of dual phase (DP600)/transformation induced plasticity (TRIP700) steel sheets. In this work, bead on plate butt joints of 2·5 mm DP600 and 1·2 mm TRIP700 steel sheets were performed using CO2 laser beam welding. Microhardness measurements and transverse tensile testing were carried out to characterise the welds. The formability of base metals and welds were investigated by standard Erichsen test. In a perpendicular tensile test to the weld line, all specimens were fractured at the TRIP base metal, and the strengths were somewhat higher than those of base metal. There was a significant reduction in formability caused by welding of the DP600/TRIP700 steel sheets, and the formability increased with increasing welding speed.  相似文献

Abstract

Two novel ultralow carbon (ULC) steels were investigated, one based on combined vanadium and titanium additions and the second based on titanium only additions. Grain size and mechanical property measurements have been performed on continuously annealed specimens previously subjected to 80% cold rolling reduction on both strip steel grades. The recrystallisation and grain coarsening characteristics of annealed ULC strips have been studied. The amount of precipitated species, under equilibrium conditions, at various annealing temperatures has also been calculated using MT-DATA thermodynamic modelling software. Transmission electron microscopy characterisation coupled with EDX study of the precipitation sequences on continuous annealing strips was also performed. Precipitate studies of the novel ULC steels confirmed the major role of TiC precipitates in retarding the recrystallisation behaviour of ULC strip steels. The role of vanadium addition in ULC steel grades in reducing the recrystallisation temperature of ULC strip steels was also identified.  相似文献

Abstract

Applications of advanced high strength steels in tailor welded blanks are a major focus to reduce vehicle weight and manufacturing cost, and to improve part performance. In the present work, formability of two types of laser welded steels in biaxial stretch forming has been studied. Laser welded blanks of the dual phase steel showed larger reduction of formability than those of high strength low alloy steel. This was due to formation of soft zones in the outer heat affected zone of dual phase steel where strain localisation and fracture occurred. Finite element simulations of dome testing incorporating local weld zone properties were able to accurately predict experimentally observed behaviour including deformation patterns and failure locations. In particular, the simulations have shown that under matching of the softened heat affected zone leads to reduced formability by localisation of strain; and that the fracture location changes from radial to circumferential plane when the flow curve of soft zone is evenly matched with the base metal. It was also concluded that the width of the soft zone has minor influence on formability during biaxial stretch forming.  相似文献
