Abstract

A response to the chemical or biological contamination of aircraft requires the use of a suitable decontaminant. Among possible chemical decontaminants, vapour phase hydrogen peroxide appears to be a likely candidate in terms of a combination of efficacy, low environmental impact and potential for materials compatibility. The present paper examines the effect of hydrogen peroxide, both in the vapour phase and as a liquid concentrate on two common structural materials used in aviation, namely 2024 and 7075 age hardenable aluminium alloys and on 304 austenitic stainless steel, the latter as employed in galley and lavatory surfaces. The present paper characterises both the effects of hydrogen peroxide on the microstructure of the materials and the impact that decontamination has on the tensile properties and corrosion resistance of these materials. Microstructural effects are both relatively small in magnitude and confined to a region immediately beside the exposed surface. No systematic effect is found on either the tensile properties or the post-exposure corrosion resistance of the three alloys examined. These observations are encouraging in terms of the use of vapour phase hydrogen peroxide for decontamination applications.  相似文献

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease in diabetes mellitus. Oxidative stress, insulin resistance and pro-inflammatory cytokines have been shown to play an important role in pathogeneses of renal damage on type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Inonotus obliquus (IO) is a white rot fungus that belongs to the family Hymenochaetaceae; it has been used as an edible mushroom and exhibits many biological activities including anti-tumor, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-hyperglycemic properties. Especially the water-soluble Inonotus obliquus polysaccharides (IOPs) have been previously reported to significantly inhibit LPS-induced inflammatory cytokines in mice and protect from streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. In order to identify the nephroprotective effects of low molecular weight of IOP fraction (LIOP), from the fruiting bodies of Inonotus obliquus, high-fat diet (HFD) plus STZ-induced type 2-like diabetic nephropathy C57BL/6 mice were investigated in this study. Our data showed that eight weeks of administration of 10–100 kDa, LIOP (300 mg/kg) had progressively increased their sensitivity to glucose (less insulin tolerance), reduced triglyceride levels, elevated the HDL/LDL ratio and decreased urinary albumin/creatinine ratio(ACR) compared to the control group. By pathological and immunohistochemical examinations, it was indicated that LIOP can restore the integrity of the glomerular capsules and increase the numbers of glomerular mesangial cells, associated with decreased expression of TGF-β on renal cortex in mice. Consistently, three days of LIOP (100 μg/mL) incubation also provided protection against STZ + AGEs-induced glucotoxicity in renal tubular cells (LLC-PK1), while the levels of NF-κB and TGF-β expression significantly decreased in a dose-dependent manner. Our findings demonstrate that LIOP treatment could ameliorate glucolipotoxicity-induced renal fibrosis, possibly partly via the inhibition of NF-κB/TGF-β1 signaling pathway in diabetic nephropathy mice.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper investigated the effect of different amounts of Ag addition on the microstructure, properties and precipitation processes of Al–4·6Cu–6·9Mg(wt-%) alloy using various analytical methods. It was found that Ag addition stimulated new X′ 9 and Ω phases precipitated finely and dispersively in the matrix, as a result of Mg–Ag co-clusters; the volume fraction of precipitates increased with the content of Ag addition. Such precipitation improved the mechanical performance of the Al–Cu–Mg alloy significantly. The mechanism for the formation of new precipitates is also described in this paper.  相似文献

Scope: Advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) are suspected to stimulate inflammatory signaling pathways in target tissues via activation of the receptor for AGEs. Endotoxins are generally recognized as potential contamination of AGE preparations and stimulate biological actions that are very similar as or identical to those induced by AGEs. Methods and results: In our study, we used glycolaldehyde‐modified β‐lactoglobulin preparations as model AGEs and employed two methods to remove endotoxin using either affinity columns or extraction with Triton X‐114 (TX‐114). Affinity column‐purified AGEs retained their ability to stimulate inflammatory signaling as measured by mRNA expression of inflammatory cytokines in the human lung epithelial cell line Beas2b. However, glycolaldehyde‐modified AGEs purified by extraction with TX‐114 did not show any stimulation of mRNA expression of inflammatory cytokines. The presence of a cell stimulating endotoxin‐like activity was demonstrated in the detergent phase after extraction with TX‐114, thus indicating that not AGEs but a lipophilic contamination was responsible for the stimulation of inflammatory signaling. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that glycolaldehyde‐modified AGEs are unable to induce inflammatory signaling in receptor for AGE‐expressing cells. The observed cell‐activating activity can be ascribed to an endotoxin‐like lipophilic contamination present in AGE preparations and affinity column purification was insufficient to remove this contamination.  相似文献

We discuss alternating group explicit (AGE) iterative method for the numerical solution of linear and non-linear singular integro-differential boundary value problems. The proposed AGE iterative method shows the superiority over the corresponding successive over relaxation (SOR) iterative methods. The presented algorithm is suitable for the use on parallel computers. The convergence analysis is briefly discussed. Computational results are presented to illustrate the utility of the proposed method.  相似文献

In this paper, the Alternating Group Explicit (AGE) method is developed from a judicious splitting of the implicit equations derived from the finite difference discretisation of the partial differential equations. The resulting equations can be reformulated in a (2?×?2) explicit form resulting in a new stable and efficient method. Finally, the AGE method is used to investigate the numerical solution of the Telegraph equation in various 2D forms.  相似文献
