The physical gestures that operate music instruments are responsible for the qualities of the sound being produced in a performance.
Gestural information is thereby crucial for a model of music performance, paired with a model of sound synthesis where this
information is applied. The highly constrained nature of performers gestures makes this task suitable to be modeled via a
constraint-based approach, coupled with a strategy aimed at maximizing the gestural comfort of performers. We illustrate the

In this paper, we present a simplified 3D particle system and fast translation algorithm we have designed and implemented to generate real-time animated particle emitter fountains choreographed by a classical music. The approach we used to translate and map the controlling information into the musical fountain animation is also introduced, as well as the process to build the physical model of the music fountains. A proof of concept is implemented to demonstrate the main system's aspects, its feasibility, and that it has met the system's design goals. Moreover, it shows that is possible to observe visual patterns that match the theme of the musical composition, as an example of how the system can be used not only for visual appreciation and entertainment, but also as a possible support tool for music composition. We have also conducted a user study as an evaluation of the system. It is foreseen that more and more music objects in symbolic format and multimedia objects, such as audio, video, or lyrics,
integrated with symbolic music representation (SMR) will be published and broadcasted via the Internet. The SMRs of the flowing songs or multimedia objects will form a
music stream. Many interesting applications based on music streams, such as interactive music tutorials, distance music education, and
similar theme searching, make the research of content-based retrieval over music streams much important. We consider multiple
queries with error tolerances over music streams and address the issue of approximate matching in this environment. We propose
a novel approach to continuously process multiple queries over the music streams for finding all the music segments that are
similar to the queries. Our approach is based on the concept of n-grams, and two mechanisms are designed to reduce the heavy
computation of approximate matching. One mechanism uses the clustering of query n-grams to prune the query n-grams that are
irrelevant to the incoming data n-gram. The other mechanism records the data n-gram that matches a query n-gram as a partial
answer and incrementally merges the partial answers of the same query. We implement a prototype system for experiments in
which songs in the MIDI format are continuously broadcasted, and the user can specify musical segments as queries to monitor

Mining of music data is one of the most important problems in multimedia data mining. In this paper, two research issues of
mining music data, i.e., online mining of music query streams and change detection of music query streams, are discussed.
First, we proposed an efficient online algorithm, FTP-stream (Frequent Temporal Pattern mining of streams), to mine all frequent melody structures over sliding windows of music melody sequence streams. An effective bit-sequence
representation is used in the proposed algorithm to reduce the time and memory needed to slide the windows. An effective list
structure is developed in the FTP-stream algorithm to overcome the performance bottleneck of 2-candidate generation. Experiments
show that the proposed algorithm FTP-stream only needs a half of memory requirement of original melody sequence data, and
just scans the music query stream once. After mining frequent melody structures, we developed a simple online algorithm, MQS-change
(changes of Music Query Streams), to detect the changes of frequent melody structures in current user-centered music query streams. Two music melody
structures (set of chord-sets and string of chord-sets) are maintained and four melody structure changes (positive burst,
negative burst, increasing change and decreasing change) are monitored in a new summary data structure, MSC-list (a list of Music Structure Changes). Experiments show that the MQS-change algorithm is an effective online method to detect the changes of music melody
structures over continuous music query streams.
