This work developed a computational methodology to evaluate and compare standard fire exposures such as those outlined in ASTM E119 with real fire exposures and determine the difference in the temperature rise of a rail car floor assembly. The real fire exposures simulated in this work were identified in a review of incidents and consisted of a constantly-fed diesel fuel spill, a localized trash fire, and a gasoline spill simulated from a collision of the railcar with an automobile. These realistic fire exposures were applied to a variety of exemplar rail cars representative of single-level and bi-level passenger cars. These floor assembly models exposed to realistic fires were simulated in Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). The thermal exposure at the underside of railcar provided by FDS was coupled with a thermal model in ABAQUS, which provided the evolution of temperature in different components of the floor assembly. The standard scenarios were simulated for 2 hours instead of the typical 30 minutes to identify the appropriate exposure duration in ASTM E119, which can better represent a real fire scenario. The average and maximum temperatures predicted at the unexposed surface for both scenarios were compared with the threshold values given in NFPA 130. 相似文献

分析了罐车装运喷气燃料中元素硫的来源途径,探讨了罐车内壁元素硫的来源机理。理论分析和实验研究结果表明,罐车内壁元素硫主要来源于硫腐蚀,罐车内存在金属硫化物、水分、氧气等条件时可促进元素硫的生成;沉积于罐壁腐蚀内层的元素硫难以清洗除去,却可慢慢溶解于油品中而致使喷气燃料银片腐蚀不合格。采用汞滴法可快速有效地测定罐车残油中的元素硫含量,检测不合格的罐车不用于装运喷气燃料,可有效地解决喷气燃料银片腐蚀不合格的生产问题。 相似文献

This being a design-build project, the challenge faced during preparations of the Employer’s requirements for design and construction of the Istanbul Strait immersed tunnel was to give the contractor as much freedom as possible and yet specify enough so that the Employer obtained the required facility. When completed, this will be a world-class facility. This paper discusses on a strategic level many of the aspects to be presented by the author in two papers in later sessions of the day. Unusual features of this crossing include the deepest ever immersed tunnel crossing, extra waterproofing requirements, strong currents with bi-directional flow, close proximity of the North Anatolian Fault which is predicted to have a major seismic event during the life of the tunnel, and the method of connecting the adjacent bored tunnels to the immersed tunnel. Safety during tunnel construction and operation has been paramount, and resulted in changes to contract packaging and extra requirements. The aim of this work is to demonstrate the use of a commercial finite element package, ABAQUS EXPLICIT, to model ultrasonic guided waves in structural components. The particular application of interest is modeling the interaction of a broadband vertical bending mode with transverse-type defects in railroad tracks. This topic is part of a broader project on high-speed defect detection in rails by long-range ultrasonic inspections. Reflection coefficient spectra in the 20–45 kHz range are obtained for four different sizes and three different orientations of transverse head flaws. A preliminary study of Lamb waves in a free plate helps drawing modeling guidelines for the rail. 相似文献

Rail rolling process is one of the most complicated hot rolling processes. Evaluating the effects of parametric values on this complex process is only possible through modeling. In this study, the production parameters of different types of rails in the rail rolling processes were modeled with an artificial neural network (ANN), and it was aimed to obtain optimum parameter values for a different type of rail. For this purpose, the data from the Rail and Profile Rolling Mill in Kardemir Iron & Steel Works Co. (Karabük, Turkey) were used. BD1, BD2, and Tandem are three main parts of the rolling mill, and in order to obtain the force values of the 49 kg/m rail in each pass for the BD1 and BD2 sections, the force and torque values for the Tandem section, parameter values of 60, 54, 46, and 33 kg/m type rails were used. Comparing the results obtained from the ANN model and the actual field data demonstrated that force and torque values were obtained with acceptable error rates. The results of the present study demonstrated that ANN is an effective and reliable method to acquire data required for producing a new rail, and concerning the rail production process, it provides a productive way for accurate and fast decision making. 相似文献

Many things are labelled as system in today's world, and this paper specifies just what attributes and notions define ergonomics/human factors in systems terms. These are obviously a systems focus, but also concern for context, acknowledgement of interactions and complexity, a holistic approach, recognition of emergence and embedding of the professional effort involved within organization system.
