Research information: Regional architecture as a model towards sustainability

Yoshio Kato discusses the idea of village life as a model for sustainability based on better management of energy and entropy including reduced consumption, recycling and self-sufficiency. A recent house design in Japan by Kato incorporating these ideas is presented, along with questions of lifestyle and consumption that architects, their clients and others will have to consider in the transition toward sustainable design.

基于数据仓库的决策支持系统研究与建设

文章首先介绍了决策支持系统（DSS）及其几点不足之处,指出新兴的数据仓库技术的固有特点可以弥补DSS的不足。在此基础上,文章提出了基于数据仓库技术的决策支持系统的体系架构,并结合实际的项目“浦东新区防灾救灾应急处理系统”阐述了这种体系架构的优越之处。     

Use of Graduate Study in Psychology as a data source.

Comments on an article by C. M. Stoup and L. T. Benjamin, Jr. (see record 1983-24200-001), in which they used various editions of Graduate Study in Psychology, published by the American Psychological Association (APA), to report the GPAs and Graduate Record Examination scores of master's and doctoral students across various areas of psychology. It is cautioned that the use of Graduate Study in Psychology as a data source calls for skepticism, as there is sufficient reason to question some of the data that are submitted to the APA by psychology departments. Defects tracking matrix for mass customization production based on house of quality

The vision of mass customization has driven a movement toward low volume, high variety mass customization production (MCP) at low price. However, defect identification and defect tracking in such systems are extremely difficult because of the frequent reconfiguration needed by the number of different part types and the interruption of the information flow about quality with each reconfiguration of the system. It is important to quickly rebuild quality information flow with MCP system’s reconfiguration synchronously. This paper introduces a defect tracking method based on Quality Function Deployment for every MCP system module. A defects tracking matrix (DTM) based on the House of Quality directly connects manufacturing technologies with quality defects inside a MCP module. Each MCP reconfiguration requires the DTMs’ rearrangement and DTM-chain is proposed. A dynamic reconstructing algorithm synchronizes the DTM-chain with each MCP reconfiguration. A case study demonstrates the usefulness of the DTM and DTM-chain.
