The degradation of an herbicide, chlortoluron, by UV/TiO2 photocatalysis in water using industrial titanium dioxide coated non-woven paper was studied. The influence of parameters such as adsorption capacity, initial concentration and TiO2 implementation (coated or in suspension) was investigated. The results emphasize the importance of operational conditions and reactor geometry on the kinetic degradation rate. The analysis of the first organic by-products suggests that a hydroxyl radical attack occurs on the phenyl ring and methyl groups of the chlortoluron before the opening of the aromatic ring. The fate of hetero-atoms has been investigated. The fates of the two nitrogen atoms in the molecule are different, not only did it depend on their initial oxidation degree, as both had the same oxidation degree, but also on the initial oxidation state of neighboring carbons. The chlorine atoms were completely released as chloride ions. The study of the influence of the oxygen concentration showed the importance of the oxygen mass transfer when designing an industrial photocatalytic reactor. An original calculation process was carried out to evaluate the adsorption constant of oxygen over the whole photocatalysis period and not only in the initial conditions as previously provided. This work points out the necessity of extending the understanding of the efficiency of chlortoluron removal or of the removal of various complex pesticide mixtures found in agricultural wastewater, using alternative, more industrially realistic, reactors.  相似文献

In this study, a fortified pancake with all parts of pomegranate as juice and by-products, added in the formulation, was designed. The influence of pomegranate addition on nutritional and sensory quality of pancake, as well as on its shelf-life, was assessed. As one would expect, the enrichment significantly improved the pancake polyphenolic content as compared to the control sample. Surprisingly, pomegranate addition did not affect its sensory quality. In fact, the enriched pancake was greatly appreciated from the sensory point of view. Results also suggested that the addition of pomegranate improved the glycemic index (GI). In fact, while a value of GI equal to 100 was obtained for the control sample, a GI of 71 was measured for the fortified sample. In terms of shelf-life, 30 days were obtained for the enriched pancake, whereas the control sample remained acceptable for about 26 days.  相似文献

Waste from fruits and vegetable processing industry is produced in large quantities worldwide and it contains high levels of lignocellulose, fibre, sugar, bioactive and functional compounds. Their utilisation has become one of the main important and challengeable aspects due to the generation of large quantities of by-products including peels, seeds, leaves and unused flesh in different steps of processing chain. Many researches have validated the waste utilisation as novel, low-cost, economical and natural sources of dietary fibre, antioxidants, pectin, enzymes, organic acids, food additives, essential oils, etc. through different methods of extractions, purifications and fermentations. Though, obtaining these by-products from such a variable substrate requires an understanding of the composition of the polysaccharides and their associations within the overall substrate. Focus on the pineapple fruit, scientific and technological studies have already highlighted and confirmed the potential of better and more profitable markets for pineapple wastes. This review is first of all the collection of previous reports about valorisation of food processing waste, deepening the possibilities of pineapple waste utilisation and to promote the integral exploitation of the by-products rich in bioactive compounds, even as multifunctional food ingredients. More in detail, this review aims at identifying those processes that can be implemented even in disadvantaged areas by means of technologies that allow recovering waste directly on site, thus reducing pollution and providing ingredients/food products with high nutritional values that could be integrated into the diet.  相似文献

BackgroundAvocado (Persea americana Mill.) is a tropical and subtropical fruit that is native to Mexico and Central America; avocado is gaining increasing worldwide acceptance and has received extensive marketing and a wide distribution due to its relevant nutritional benefits for human health. Mexico harvests more than 30% of avocados worldwide, representing the main producer and exporter of avocado, which has become a crop of high interest and has great economic impact on Mexico.Scope and approachIn this paper, we describe relevant information on the production, composition and application of avocado, with an emphasis on its by-products, focusing on the proper use of waste and the possibility of monetizing waste for nutritional and environmental purposes. The entire avocado is rich in biocompounds (pulp, seed and peel) and has many health benefits, such as antimicrobial, antioxidant and anticancer activities, as well as dermatological uses and others. In this paper, we demonstrate the current panorama of production, exportation and uses of avocado in Mexico.Key findings and conclusionsSeveral food grade ingredients can be obtained from avocado wastes, particularly premium-grade fats or extracts with a high functional power. Studies should continue to identify the profiles and phytochemicals available to the business sector, which can also be implemented to valorize the nutritional and functional potential of avocado seeds and peels.  相似文献

The degradation of seven acidic drugs and two metabolites during chlorination was investigated by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). A triple-quadrupole (QqQ) system was used to follow the time course of the pharmaceuticals and by-products, while a quadrupole time-of-flight (Q-TOF) system was also used for the identification of the by-products. Under strong chlorination conditions (10 mg/L Cl2, 24 h), only four of the target compounds were significantly degraded: salicylic acid, naproxen, diclofenac and indomethacine. The degradation kinetics of these four compounds were investigated at different concentrations of chlorine, bromide and pH by means of a Box-Behnken experimental design. Depending on these factors, measured pseudo-first order half-lives were in the ranges: 23-573 h for salicylic acid, 13-446 min for naproxen, 5-328 min for diclofenac and 0.4-13.4 min for indomethacine. Also, it was observed that chlorine concentration was the overall most significant factor, followed by the bromide concentration (except for indomethacine), resulting in increased degradation kinetics as they are increased. The degradation path of salicylic acid, naproxen and diclofenac consisted of aromatic substitution of one or two hydrogens by chlorine and/or bromide. Moreover, for diclofenac, two other by-products corresponding to a decarboxylation/hydroxylation pathway from the monohalogenated products were also identified. On the other hand, indomethacine degradation did not lead to halogenation products but to oxidation ones. The investigation of these by-products in real samples by LC-MS/MS (QqQ) showed that the halogenated derivates of salicylic acid occurred in all the drinking water and wastewater samples analysed.  相似文献

Disposal of by-products generated by plant food processing represent an important problem in the industry, but these by-products are also promising sources of compounds which may be used for their technological or nutritional properties, and today they are considered as a possible source of functional compounds. This work has contributed to the knowledge of three legume by-products, pea pod (Pisum sativum L.), broad bean pod (Vicia faba L.) and okara from soybean (Glycine max L.). These three by-products have in common that their major fraction is dietary fibre (pea pod: 58.6 g/100 g; okara: 54.3 g/100 g; broad bean pod: 40.1 g/100 g). Sucrose, glucose and fructose are the most important soluble sugars in both pods; however α-galactosides (stachyose and raffinose) are in greater concentration in okara. Protein is also a considerable component, although in higher amount in okara than in pods. Okara presents a large quantity of fat however both pods show similar low contents. Linoleic acid is the most important fatty acid; oleic acid is remarkable in okara and pea pod and linolenic acid in broad bean pod. Mineral amount is major in by-product pods than in okara, and the most important minerals are potassium, calcium and iron.  相似文献

Factors that affect the formation of haloacetic acids (HAAs) during monochloramination, such as monochloramine application techniques, the initial chlorine (Cl) to ammonia-N (N) ratios, the bromide concentrations, and the wastewater quality, were studied. Aqueous humic acid solutions and undisinfected wastewater effluent samples obtained from two Hong Kong Sewage Treatment Works (STWs) were monochloraminated under various conditions. HAA formation was strongly affected by the monochloramine application techniques. The formation of trichloroacetic acid (TCAA) and total HAAs was reduced by adding preformed monochloramine. A higher initial Cl:N ratio indicated a higher chlorine demand and consequently led to higher HAA yields. Increasing the bromide concentration shifted HAAs from chlorinated species to brominated species and increased the yields of total HAAs, concurrent with decreases in the yields of dichloroacetic acid (DCAA) and TCAA but with increases in those of the other HAAs measured. Variations in the patterns of HAA formation were observed in monochloraminated wastewater effluent samples. The variations cannot be simply explained by the chlorine chemistry involving ammonia and/or bromide but are likely attributable to the combining effects of the water quality and the characteristics of the organics in the wastewater.  相似文献

Treatment of perfumery materials such as aromatic hydrocarbons was attempted using atmospheric surface discharge and UV light irradiation. The maximum decomposition rate of phenyl ethyl benzene with a concentration of 8% using the discharge with UV light is 96%, that is 12% higher than that without UV light. Combination of surface discharge and UV light enhances the decomposition rate and energy efficiency, and enables to suppress the generation of by-products such as benzene.  相似文献

Application of MBR for hospital wastewater treatment in China   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In China, the number of hospitals has increased to 19,712 in 2008, with the production of hospital wastewater reaching 1.29 × 106 m3/d. Membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology presents a more efficient system at removing pathological microorganism compared with existing wastewater treatment systems. In the past 8 yr, over 50 MBR plants have been successfully built for hospital wastewater treatments, with the capacity ranging from 20 to 2000 m3/d. MBR can effectively save disinfectant consumption (chlorine addition can decrease to 1.0 mg/L), shorten the reaction time (approximately 1.5 min, 2.5-5% of conventional wastewater treatment process), and attain a good effect of inactivation of microorganism. Higher disinfection efficacy is achieved in MBR effluents at lower dose of disinfectant with less disinfection by-products (DBPs). Moreover, when capacity of MBR plants increases from 20 to 1000 m3/d, their operating cost decreases sharply.  相似文献
