Interacting Socially with the Internet of Things (IoT): Effects of Source Attribution and Specialization in Human–IoT Interaction

This study investigates the theoretical mechanisms by which the variations in source attribution (multiple sources vs. single source) and specialization (multifunctionality vs. single functionality) of Internet of Things (IoT) devices influence the quality of human–IoT interaction. Results from a between‐subjects experiment (N = 100) indicate that IoT devices that elicit the sense of multiple agencies and are specialized in a single function induce greater social presence and perceived expertise, which, in turn, lead individuals to show a more positive attitude toward the devices and to ascribe greater quality to the information transmitted by them. The results also reveal that the effect of multiple source attribution is more pronounced for individuals for whom the content of the information has low personal relevance.     

从知识管理视角看信息技术教师专业化

信息技术教师是教师群体中的新生力量，也是实施信息技术教育不可轻视的群体。如何有效地将知识管理思想与信息技术教师专业化整合，是教育界当前讨论的热点课题。本研究从知识管理的角度，把信息技术教师专业化知识进一步划分为学科专业知识和教育专业知识；进而讨论信息技术教师专业化知识管理的核心内容；最后提出建设校际学科专业知识库、搭建基于反思型教研互动平台等具体的实现方法，促进信息技术教师专业化可持续发展。     

Can smartphones be specialists? Effects of specialization in mobile advertising

Based on the Computers Are Social Actors (CASA) paradigm, this study extends the expectations regarding the superiority of specialists over generalists to mobile technology by examining whether the specialization of a hardware agent (i.e., a smartphone) and a software agent (i.e., an application) has psychological effects on smartphone users who are exposed to mobile advertisements. Results from a between-subjects experiment (N = 80) show that specialist smartphones and applications induce greater trust in advertisements and an increased purchase intention toward the advertised products than generalist smartphones and applications. In addition, the effects of specialization on purchase intention are mediated by trust in advertisements. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.     

Winter diets of round whitefish Prosopium cylindraceum in the St. Marys River

The round whitefish (Prosopium cylindraceum) is a coregonine native to numerous northern temperate lentic and lotic systems across North America. The St. Marys River, located between the United States and Canadian border, is one such system where the round whitefish supports a recreational fishery and is a prey source for piscivores. Round whitefish are generally known to prey upon benthic macroinvertebrates, but diets of round whitefish in the St. Marys River have not been characterized. We analyzed stomach contents from 107 round whitefish sampled from the St. Marys River during the winter months of 2020 and 2021 to describe their diets, examine their feeding strategies, and determine if they fed selectively. Ephemeropterans were the most important prey numerically, followed by megalopterans, trichopterans, and dipterans. The round whitefish population sampled from the St. Marys River exhibited a specialized feeding strategy that most often specialized on ephemeropterans. Patterns in the importance of prey types and feeding strategy were consistent between both years sampled. Selective feeding by round whitefish was examined using diet and environmental data from 2021 only, and we found that round whitefish selected both ephemeropterans and megalopterans, but avoided trichopterans and dipterans. Rather than being opportunistic invertivores, our results indicate round whitefish are specialized and selective feeders. Our findings can be used to inform conservation and management of round whitefish, as diets represent an integration of multiple ecological components such as prey availability, predator behavior, and habitat quality.

Binding-time analysis for both static and dynamic expressions

This paper presents a specializer and a binding-time analyzer for a functional language where expressions are allowed to be used as both static and dynamic. With both static and dynamic expressions, data structures can be statically accessed while they are residualized at the same time. Previously, such data structures were treated as completely dynamic, which prevented their components from being accessed statically. The technique presented in this paper effectively allows data structures to be lifted which was prohibited in the conventional partial evaluators. The binding-time analysis is formalized as a type system and the solution is obtained by solving constraints generated by the type system. We prove the correctness of the constraint solving algorithm and show that the algorithm runs efficiently in almost linear time.
