Rheinbrücke Breisach – Umbau und Instandsetzung einer 45 Jahre alten Stahlkonstruktion

The Rhine Bridge at Breisach – Alteration and maintenance work at a 45‐years‐old steel structure across the river Rhine. The Breisach Rhine Bridge between Breisach in Baden‐Württemberg, Germany, and Neuf‐Brisach in Alsace, France, is next to the Europe Bridge Kehl–Strasbourg the most important road connection between the two countries. The three‐pillar road bridge was built in 1962 using the foundation of an old railway bridge. The box girder of the bridge is welded as well as riveted and bolted. Both the design of the curb with its underseepage – a feature that was often used at that time but is now out of favour – and damages at the drain pipes in the girder box led to significant corrosion damage. In the future a bicycle lane will run over the bridge. For this an enlargement of the southern footpath is required. Bridge repair and maintenance work began in the spring of 2008. In this paper not only the details of the projects will be considered, but also the solutions to the problems discovered during repair work. An additional special feature of the bridge is the fact that two road construction agencies, one French, one German, are in charge of maintenance.     

Kardinalität und die Aufspaltung von Höhen- und Risikopräferenz beim Bernoulli-Prinzip

As a conclusion to a long-lasting discussion in german literature about expected utility theory, a separation of the von Neumann-Morgenstern utility function into two parts is proposed: One part measures the preferences under certainty, the other part the pure risk preferences. This separation is proven to be a necessary and sufficient condition for an expanded expected utility to measure the strength of preference under uncertainty.

Microstructural evaluation of weldability of cast steels considering the sensitivity to cold cracking The behaviour of different types of cast steel at welding of structures is widely determined by the specialities of the microstructure in the heat affected zone (HAZ). The identification of the different areas of microstructure depends on the alloying system of the cast material. At the evaluation of the weldability of cast steels with high or low carbon contents high attention should be drawn to the sensitivity to cold cracking, which correlates with the chemical composition as well as with the inhomogenieties of the initial microstructure.

Zusammenfassung Die seit Jahren andauernde Diskussion über die Existenz einer Risikopr?ferenz im engeren Sinne beim Bernoulli-Prinzip scheint immer noch nicht zu einem kl?renden Abschlu? gekommen zu sein. Dadurch kann der Eindruck entstehen, als ob hier tats?chlich eine offene Frage vorliegen würde. Dieser Beitrag m?chte in verst?ndlicher Weise deutlich machen, da? die Frage klar zu entscheiden und jede weitere Diskussion hierüber mü?ig ist. Dazu ist es sinnvoll, sich st?rker vom Bernoulli-Prinzip zu l?sen und es aus einer umfassenderen Perspektive zu betrachten, die den Blick auf das Wesentliche richtet, insbesondere auch dadurch, da? Analogiebetrachtungen zu einer ?hnlichen Problematik bei der Zeitpr?ferenz angestellt werden. Im Ergebnis wird die Position derjenigen best?tigt, die eine Risikopr?ferenz im engeren Sinne als mit dem Bernoulli-Prinzip vereinbar betrachten. Allerdings wird auch darauf hingewiesen, da? die ?Vertreter? des Bernoulli-Prinzips an der herrschenden Unklarheit über die diskutierte Frage nicht ganz unschuldig sind. Mit diesem Beitrag wird Stellung bezogen zur jüngst wieder aufgeflammten Diskussion um die Risikopr?ferenz beim Bernoulli-Prinzip in der Zeitschrift für Betriebswirtschaft (ZfB). Laut Auskunft der Schriftleitung der ZfB im M?rz 1993 haben die Herausgeber beschlossen, keine Beitr?ge zu dieser Problematik in der ZfB mehr zu ver?ffentlichen
