High‐performance thermosets with tailored properties derived from methacrylated eugenol and epoxy‐based vinyl ester

A renewable chemical, eugenol, is methacrylated to produce methacrylated eugenol (ME) employing the Steglich esterification reaction without any solvent. The resulting ME is used as a low‐viscosity co‐monomer to replace styrene in a commercial epoxy‐based vinyl ester resin (VE). The volatility and viscosity of ME and styrene are compared. The effect of ME loading and temperature on the viscosity of the VE–ME resin is investigated. Moreover, the thermomechanical properties, curing extent and thermal stability of the fully cured VE–ME thermosets are systematically examined. The results indicate that ME is a monomer with low volatility and low viscosity, and therefore the incorporation of ME monomer in VE resins allows significant reduction of viscosity. Moreover, the viscosity of the VE–ME resin can be tailored by adjusting the ME loadings and processing temperature to meet commercial liquid molding technology requirements. The glass transition temperatures of VE–ME thermosets range from 139 to 199 °C. In addition, more than 95% of the monomer is incorporated and fixed in the crosslinked network structure of VE–ME thermosets. Overall, the developed ME monomer exhibits promising potential for replacing styrene as an effective low‐viscosity co‐monomer. The VE–ME resins show great advantages for use in polymer matrices for high‐performance fiber‐reinforced composites. 针对市场环境下水电站如何综合考虑电价和来水等不确定性因素下的优化调度是当前研究的热点和难点,建立了考虑电价和来水等不确定性因素的风险约束水电站长期优化调度模型。根据此模型发电商可方便地在预期的目标收益和风险之间进行权衡,达到以较小的风险获得较大的收益的目的。以二滩电厂实算为例,表明了该模型的有效性。     

Differential effects of cue changes and task changes on task-set selection costs.

A task-switching paradigm with a 2:1 mapping between cues and tasks was used to separate cue-switching processes (indexed through pure cue-switch costs) from actual task-switching processes (indexed through additional costs in case of cue and task changes). A large portion of total switch costs was due to cue changes (Experiments 1 and 2), and cue-switch costs but not task-switch costs were sensitive to effects of practice (Experiment 1) and preparation (Experiment 2). In contrast, task-switch costs were particularly sensitive to response-priming effects (Experiments 1 and 2) and task-set inhibition (Experiment 3). Results suggest two processing stages relevant during task-set selection: cue-driven retrieval of task rules from long-term memory and the automatic application of rules to a particular stimulus situation. Contributions of Metaknowledge to Retrieval of Natural Categories in Semantic Memory.

Retrieving the answer to a general knowledge question has been shown to involve two metacognitive processes--a feeling-of-knowing that initiates the search of long-term memory and a willingness to continue searching until an answer can be confidently stated. To extend this model, college students were asked to retrieve as many members of 2 natural categories as they could in 1 min. Examination of the points at which they switched categories revealed that they searched longer in categories of higher potency, and they switched earlier when the other category was of higher potency. They also searched the first category longer when they were allowed to switch only once during a trial rather than as often as they wished. It was concluded that feeling-of-knowing maintained search of a category and also contributed to the willingness to continue searching, and the constraint on switching impacted the willingness to continue. Prediction of High-Temperature Long-Term Strength for Damaged Structures

A method is proposed for analytical estimation of the high-temperature long-term strength of structures with material discontinuities, which are stress raisers. We consider the processes involving the formation of diffusion pores. Diffusion processes in metals are strongly enhanced with increasing temperature and stresses.

Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy for Liver Disease

Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is becoming the treatment of choice for critically ill patients with acute renal failure around the world. In particular, CRRT is used for patients with combined liver and acute renal failure, because they are often hemodynamically unstable. The question arises as to whether the use of CRRT should be extended to those patients with acute and chronic liver failure who do not have dialysis-dependent renal failure. CRRT could potentially allow some detoxification by removing water-soluble toxins and also allow regulation of intravascular volume and correction of sodium and other electrolyte and acid–base imbalances. By providing homeostatic control, CCRT could potentially help support patients by bridging to liver transplantation and managing those who eventually recover with hepatic regeneration.
