The economic analysis of processes allows a market orientation and prioritization of development projects. First of all, a preliminary costing takes place by estimating the investment costs. Basis for calculation is a complete process flow diagram with mass and energy balances for a layout of the process steps, performed in the standard material AISI 316Ti. Costs of other materials can be calculated with factors from a table, that of the other sizes and capacities by degression exponents. The preliminary costing is exemplified. The investment is the basis for the subsequent calculation of production costs.

Intelligent facial emotion recognition and semantic-based topic detection for a humanoid robot

Automatic perception of human affective behaviour from facial expressions and recognition of intentions and social goals from dialogue contexts would greatly enhance natural human robot interaction. This research concentrates on intelligent neural network based facial emotion recognition and Latent Semantic Analysis based topic detection for a humanoid robot. The work has first of all incorporated Facial Action Coding System describing physical cues and anatomical knowledge of facial behaviour for the detection of neutral and six basic emotions from real-time posed facial expressions. Feedforward neural networks (NN) are used to respectively implement both upper and lower facial Action Units (AU) analysers to recognise six upper and 11 lower facial actions including Inner and Outer Brow Raiser, Lid Tightener, Lip Corner Puller, Upper Lip Raiser, Nose Wrinkler, Mouth Stretch etc. An artificial neural network based facial emotion recogniser is subsequently used to accept the derived 17 Action Units as inputs to decode neutral and six basic emotions from facial expressions. Moreover, in order to advise the robot to make appropriate responses based on the detected affective facial behaviours, Latent Semantic Analysis is used to focus on underlying semantic structures of the data and go beyond linguistic restrictions to identify topics embedded in the users’ conversations. The overall development is integrated with a modern humanoid robot platform under its Linux C++ SDKs. The work presented here shows great potential in developing personalised intelligent agents/robots with emotion and social intelligence.     

模块化高速电动车组牵引传动跟踪监测系统

根据高速动车组现场日趋复杂的测试环境对实时监测系统提出的新要求,研制一种多功能、易扩展且便携的牵引传动单元跟踪监测系统。给出基于CPCI总线模块化结构的嵌入式硬件系统设计原理,提出基于LabVIEW软件开发平台实现监测数据在线实时处理、离线分析处理以及人机交互等功能的方法,分析软件中各虚拟仪器的设计及其基于状态机的调度机制,对监测系统中牵引电机输入功率以及不断变化的信号频率的测量算法及其实现方法进行研究。应用结果表明,该系统运行稳定、设置灵活、测量精度高,能为高速动车组的安全运行提供科学保证。     

On the communication of scientific data: The Full-Metadata Format

In this paper, we introduce a scientific format for text-based data files, which facilitates storing and communicating tabular data sets. The so-called Full-Metadata Format builds on the widely used INI-standard and is based on four principles: readable self-documentation, flexible structure, fail-safe compatibility, and searchability. As a consequence, all metadata required to interpret the tabular data are stored in the same file, allowing for the automated generation of publication-ready tables and graphs and the semantic searchability of data file collections. The Full-Metadata Format is introduced on the basis of three comprehensive examples. The complete format and syntax are given in the appendix.     

On the communication of measurement results

In recent times there have been a number of suggestive attempts to formulate a semiotics of measurement in the context of modern theory and practice of instrumentation. All have been critically reliant on one of the most ancient theories of language – the picture or model or representational theory of meaning. Modern linguistics has concluded that the representational model is important but only part true. In this paper, a complementary approach is suggested based on the empirical observations of James Clerk Maxwell and approaches to pragmatic linguistics involving intentional system behaviour, which stem from a famous discussion of meaning in 1955, by H. P. Grice. Application of Gricean effectiveness conditions for the communication of measurement results yields conditions relevant to traceability and the aims of accreditation practices. They underscore an essentially ethical dimension to modern metrology – that, as others have put it, measurements ought to be what they purport to be. It is increasingly necessary that they also be seen to be both what they purport to be, and fit for purpose.
